Frontierutilities Reviews
Frontier Utilities has received overwhelmingly negative feedback from customers, with 15 reviews averaging 1.1 out of 5. The most serious complaints center on misleading discount practices, with customers reporting that promised discounts fail to materialize, frequent and extended power outages, systematic overbilling compared to actual meter readings, and sudden rate increases at contract renewal without adequate notice. Multiple reviewers describe the company as operating a scam with deceptive billing practices and poor customer service that involves excessive transfers and refusal to address billing disputes.
Customers report experiencing bills that more than doubled at contract end, charges significantly higher than competitors for comparable usage, and difficulty getting billing corrections despite documented errors. Several shoppers note they switched to other providers and saw dramatic cost reductions, suggesting Frontier's rates and practices are substantially worse than market alternatives. The overwhelming pattern across reviews indicates customers feel systematically overcharged and misled, with no positive aspects of the service mentioned by any reviewer.
The discount information they give you is misleading. They promise you'll get a discount if you hit a certain kilowatt threshold, but that's not what happens. Been dealing with this runaround for over three months. My contract ends soon and I won't be signing up again.
Frontier combined with CenterPoint is definitely one of the worst electric companies in America. The number of outages here is ridiculous with extended downtime. It's embarrassing. Lost power three times this month alone, and today we've been without power all day.
The most crooked, scam-filled business in the deregulated energy industry. They have the highest complaint volume filed with the Texas Power Commission. I had to go through every single bill because they overcharged me compared to my actual meter readings. Now they're harassing me about a balance from their own billing error, which they even acknowledged making. Get out while you can. This is a completely broken organization.
Complete scam operation. Worst energy company experience I've ever had. I moved and switched to another provider immediately, and the difference is night and day. I was paying over $200 monthly for less than 700 square feet, and now I pay under $100 for 1000 square feet at my new place. At the old location, a one bedroom one bath apartment, my bills were consistently over $200 each month, which is insane considering my parents pay less and they live in a three bedroom two bath house in the same area. When I moved out in March they charged me $276.70 for only living there from the 1st through the 15th since I canceled on the 16th. How is that justified? Customer service is terrible and won't address problems. I got bounced between six or seven different agents who clearly had no answers either. When I finally called to cancel, they suddenly offered me a better rate. Why does it take canceling to get a decent price? Absolutely terrible.
My latest bill showed the rates had more than doubled from my contract. They claim they mailed a February letter about the expiration and rate increase, but I never got it. When I called to dispute the charges, they transferred me around three times and nobody would adjust the bill. Then they had the nerve to ask if I wanted to renew. You'd think they'd try to keep me as a customer for another full year instead of hitting me with one month of inflated charges.
When my previous contract ended, prices skyrocketed. I searched for the cheapest option and found this company, which turned out to be a total scam. They charged 11.6 per kilowatt and my first bill came to $892, the worst I've ever seen. I never paid more than $350 under my old contract. They're showing over 3000 kilowatts of usage in one month, which is absolutely crazy and not realistic for my household. Wish I had read the reviews first before signing up.
This company is fraudulent and makes up fake kilowatt usage. Before switching providers, I tracked my monthly usage for a whole year to pick the right plan. I live in a 944 square foot condo, keep the temperature at 67 when heating and 78 when cooling, and I'm really mindful about energy use. I only cook once a week and reuse meals. I don't have a TV or computer, just a phone. My second bill arrived for $587.21. They're thieves. They claim I used over 2000 kilowatts, which is completely fabricated. I have documented proof from the previous year showing I never used that much. My meter was inspected in 2023 and works perfectly. This company is falsifying usage numbers to steal from customers. Don't use them. I checked BBB reviews and found many similar complaints.
My bill for January was $532 when it should have been at its lowest for the year. A technician came out to check the meter since I knew it was wrong. He said the meter was reading correctly and there was nothing he could do about it.
Their rates are outrageous compared to the competition. They billed me over $150 for less than one month in a place where nobody was living and everything was unplugged. I tried multiple times to have a reasonable conversation about splitting the difference, but they wouldn't budge. When I asked to hear the recorded sales call where supposedly these rates were confirmed, they refused. That right there says everything you need to know. Go with literally anyone else.
Started service with Frontier after being assured there would be no deposit required. Then they closed my account and opened a fresh one, suddenly demanding a $350 deposit and charging higher rates. My credit score is excellent, so I have no idea why they felt a deposit was necessary.
Once my 12 cent contract ended, Frontier started charging 22 cents per month for month to month service. I checked and found they were offering new customers a 3 month contract at eight and a half cents. I called asking for either that rate or the original 12 cent rate, but was told those deals only apply to new customers. The best they would do for me as an existing customer was 17 cents. Really disappointed with how they treat loyal customers.
I wish there was a half star option because zero would be more fitting. These people are cheating customers and you can't trust them. I'm dealing with serious issues. Customer service is incredibly rude and dismissive. When you ask questions or want explanations, they just say it's their policy and leave it at that. I signed up through a broker and the advertised rate was 14.1 cents per kilowatt, but they're billing me 19.9 cents plus additional delivery charges and other fees. The real deception happens at the billing level with the $100 credit they advertise. If you're supposed to get a $100 monthly credit for hitting certain usage levels, they manipulate the billing dates to make sure you never qualify. When I aim for a certain consumption over 30 days, they calculate for 26 days so the bill stops before reaching the threshold. When I try a 26 day period, they bill for 35 days so consumption shoots way up. Either way I lose money. Their plan is clearly to avoid paying out that credit at all. I called customer service about this and they couldn't explain how the credit actually works.
The smart meter reported 100KW usage, which makes absolutely no sense. My 900 square foot home cannot possibly consume that amount of electricity. I don't have any appliances capable of that draw. My record high in the Texas heat is around 60KW. They're completely dishonest about this.
I received four phone calls in three days about paying my final bill, which wasn't even due for 13 more days. I assume the calls would have continued daily if I hadn't contacted customer service to make them stop. I was traveling on a cruise ship at the time. When I explained this to the customer service agent, he acknowledged it but then asked if I wanted to pay over the phone anyway. I declined and assured him the bill would be paid before the due date. He complained about the connection, I said yes, I'm on a cruise ship as I mentioned. He kept trying to push the conversation forward until I ended the call. Before the due date passed, I got three more calls. I had to send an email complaining to get them to stop. Never in my life have I been harassed about a bill before it was even due. I also noticed on an email from them about an upcoming bill that it was already sent to their collections department, which seems odd for a bill not yet due. I'm keeping close watch on my credit to make sure this company doesn't damage it further.
