What Shoppers Say About aveloair.com
Avelo Air is rated 1.2 out of 5 by 17 shoppers, with the vast majority expressing severe dissatisfaction. Recurring complaints center on frequent flight cancellations and delays (ranging from one to fourteen hours of waiting), unresponsive customer service with extremely long call queues and no callback follow-up, misleading website descriptions of cancellation policies, luggage damage and loss, and a website platform that crashes and loads slowly. Shoppers report being stranded without medications, receiving damaged luggage with rejected damage claims, and finding themselves unable to use flight credits after the airline reduced route availability.
A small minority of reviewers gave positive ratings, but they represent only 6 percent of feedback. The overwhelming consensus among shoppers is that the airline's low fares do not compensate for operational failures, poor customer service responsiveness, and the financial and logistical hardship caused by unreliable scheduling and disputed refund policies.

Sorted by: Most recentJust horrible! This airline is not worth whatever discount you think you're getting. My first flight with them from New Haven to Greenville never happened because it got canceled. I tried calling customer service and there were 117 people ahead of me in the queue. I requested a callback and they never called back. Today I attempted the same route and now the flight is held up, moved from 5pm to at least 10pm. I'm on hold again and I'm number 91.
Plan on wasting a bunch of time if you book with them. You'll spend it booking, sorting out luggage rules, and then hanging around waiting for a delayed flight. I flew twice in 5 days and both flights were behind schedule, one delayed an hour and the other two hours. The cabin was freezing the whole time and everyone was shivering. Plus, the flight attendants won't stop talking. I had to crank my headphones up really loud to try to get some peace and quiet. Let me rest for once.
We waited at the airport for 14 hours before they finally canceled our flight, leaving us stranded. The soonest I could get another flight was 4 days later. I'm a cancer patient dependent on my medications and I had none with me. The airline had told us they'd have a flight available the next day if the original one got canceled, but that didn't happen. No flights were available for days. It felt like no one cared at all about our situation.
The way they describe flight cancellation policies on their website is misleading, and they're keeping my money even though I can't use it since they removed one of the two destinations I could fly to. When my luggage arrived, it was torn up and missing its wheels, and when I filed a damage claim, they rejected it. Getting in touch with someone who actually has authority to help is basically impossible. Stay away from this airline. You will regret it.
I had a flight credit that I wanted to put toward a future trip. The problem is they stopped flying to the destination I needed. On top of that, they've reduced their routes from my area to just one city, and that's not somewhere I need to go. When I asked for my money back instead, they turned me down flat. It's completely unfair that since they can't meet my travel needs anymore, they won't refund my money.
Absolutely terrible website experience. The platform constantly crashes and loads at a snail's pace. The extra charges they add on make their prices way too high compared to competitors. My return flight from Fort Lauderdale was held up and then scrapped altogether. There were no communications from the airline, but I could see them unloading our bags hours before they officially announced the cancellation. When I ran into one of the pilots at my hotel the next morning, he didn't even know if the flight was going to be rescheduled.
Yet another flight with this airline and yet another delay. I don't understand why every time I book with them there's always something wrong. On December 2nd, they pushed the departure back by 3 hours. Generally I can handle a short delay of a few minutes or even up to an hour, but with this airline when it's important, they drop the ball. I probably should have just taken the train instead. Sure, it's 24 hours, but if I'd left yesterday I would've gotten there well rested and been in my hotel on time. I have an important interview at 7 in the morning on December 3rd. I was really looking forward to landing, checking into my hotel that night, and getting prepared. The flight was supposed to leave at 7:06 PM and land at 9:14 PM. Now we're not leaving until 11:14 PM and won't arrive until after 1 AM. I'm going to miss my shuttle pickup and now I have to pay double for ground transportation when I finally get there. If you're not going to stick to your schedule, you should compensate your customers for the consequences.
Without question, this is the worst airline customer service I have ever experienced and I mean the absolute worst. I've already reached out to their executive team and I'm giving them a chance to respond. If I don't get a reasonable answer, I'm going to tell the whole story publicly and file complaints with the Department of Transportation and the Better Business Bureau.
They delayed our flight by 3 hours and gave us only 30 minutes notice. I'm not coming back. My schedule matters and shouldn't be treated like it doesn't.
