What Shoppers Say About Cobra Electronics
Cobra Electronics receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 9 reviews averaging 1.2 out of 5. The primary complaints center on severe customer service failures, including unresponsive support staff, non-functional online tools for order cancellation and tracking, and rude or unhelpful representatives when contact is finally established. Multiple reviewers report hardware defects, particularly failed micro USB connectors on cameras and dash cams that were soldered rather than user-replaceable, along with software issues including broken mobile apps and connectivity problems that remain unresolved despite repeated contact attempts.
Shoppers consistently express frustration with the lack of support for products, including abandonment of older models and delayed or absent responses to warranty claims and technical issues. The few reviewers who gave two-star ratings instead of one star cited problems with product functionality (such as display glitches) that went unresolved. No positive feedback appears in recent reviews, and dissatisfied customers explicitly recommend switching to competing brands rather than purchasing from Cobra Electronics.

Sorted by: Most recentDo not order from this company. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. Trying to cancel an order? Good luck - that page doesn't work. Want to track your package? You have to download an app. When you finally talk to someone in customer service, they're rude and unhelpful.
Picked up a SC200D camera a couple years back. The phone app for viewing footage on the go has been broken since day one. Customer support was basically nonexistent until recently. Then during a really hot spell, the magnetic mount's micro USB connection actually melted and came loose, which meant the camera wasn't getting steady power. I called customer support to report this, mentioning it could've caused damage or even a fire risk, and the rep just laughed it off. This person kept insisting I'd mounted it wrong and suggested using connectors that wouldn't even fit properly, and all he really wanted was to sell me another mount. I don't even know if they have a formal complaints process. I'm looking into reporting this whole situation to consumer protection authorities. If you're thinking about getting a dash cam, skip Cobra entirely because you'll end up disappointed.
Bought one of their dash cams about five years ago and only took it on a handful of trips. The USB micro connector inside failed, and I couldn't get power to the unit anymore. Turns out the connector was soldered on, and that solder joint gave out - pretty bad design choice if you ask me. When I reached out to Cobra, they said they'd stopped making that model and wouldn't repair or replace it. I asked if they'd at least cut me a deal on a newer model given the defect, but they flat out refused. They wanted full price for a replacement. I told them no thanks and haven't bought from them since. The products just aren't reliable and their customer service is even worse.
I've reached out to their customer service multiple times about my SC100 not connecting to the remote surveillance feature. Still haven't gotten any real help. I'm sending the camera back and going with a different brand.
Back in June, I sent a detailed complaint to Cedar Electronics about ongoing problems with my Cobra RAD 480i gadget, along with their Drive Smarter app and Windows software update tool. Over the past couple years, I've tried everything to get these issues fixed, but they keep falling short. The problems range from wrong model names showing up, connection failures, missing software patches, and buggy applications. I've called their support team many times with ticket numbers to back it up, and all I get is brushed off with unhelpful answers. What really bothers me is that they recently changed their firmware page to say the newest update came out recently, when it actually dropped back in January of 2023. That update didn't fix any of the long-standing issues that have been there since the product first launched in 2020. Their website promises regular updates and improvements, but that just isn't happening in reality.
I contacted the company about problems with my Nightwatch model right before the warranty window closed, but I was swamped with work and never got around to sending it back. The display started acting up and turned into gibberish that you can't read. Every so often it straightens out enough to let me find what I need, but it's incredibly frustrating. I haven't heard back from them at all. Quality control seems to have tanked, and their service is just as bad. I've owned Cobra products for years, but I'm switching brands now because even their basic functionality isn't working right anymore.
Their customer service is a complete joke. I'm with Cobra Electronics Canada and I'm done with them. Won't be back.
Got a high-end handheld VHF radio back in 2019 and it performed flawlessly for years. This spring when I was getting ready for sailing season, the lithium ion battery died and wouldn't take a charge. A bit sooner than expected, but nothing crazy until I needed a replacement. There's hardly anywhere that stocks the batteries, especially outside the US. I contacted Cobra's European office and they weren't helpful at all, just said batteries were out of stock. The Danish distributor sent an auto reply saying they don't answer customer questions and gave me a link that led nowhere. The radio itself is great, but the support is basically useless. Update: I did get in touch with the distributor who has actually been trying hard to help track down a battery.
Spent around 200 bucks on a CDR900 E and got burned. They advertise that smartphone app feature to help sell the product, but after I bought it they basically ditched support for it. You used to be able to quickly get your dash cam footage onto your phone, which was super convenient. I emailed their support team and they actually admitted they're shutting down the app. They really don't care once you've given them your money. Their support is basically nonexistent. I threw away a lot of cash on this and now I'm stuck with a stripped-down product. Be careful buying from Cobra.
