Ethan Allen Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Ethan Allen
Ethan Allen shoppers report a deeply polarized experience. Those satisfied with purchases describe furniture that has held up remarkably well over decades, with some pieces still in excellent condition after 20 years of use. These customers appreciate the durability of wood pieces and have been willing to invest in reupholstery to extend the life of their furniture. However, a substantial portion of reviewers express frustration with customer service, quality control, and warranty limitations. Common complaints center on defective products (faded leather, chipped finishes, wrong colors), unresponsive customer service, extended delivery timelines far exceeding initial estimates, and a perceived unwillingness to stand behind products under warranty. Some customers report difficulty getting the company to take responsibility or provide solutions for defects, and note that local store personnel lack authority to resolve issues effectively.
The polarized ratings reflect whether shoppers received satisfactory resolution to their problems. Long-term customers who invested in the brand years ago remain loyal due to the durability they've experienced. In contrast, recent purchasers dealing with quality issues and unresponsive support have had significantly worse experiences. The company's willingness to address concerns appears inconsistent: some customers report eventual resolution through persistence or escalation, while others describe being stonewalled by warranty terms and lack of accountability.

Sorted by: Most recentWe bought a sofa and ottoman from the Ethan Allen store in Syracuse and it was a wonderful experience from beginning to end. Our salesperson Caroline was knowledgeable, professional, and genuinely interested in what we liked and our personal style. She talked through all the options without ever pushing us to decide quickly. She even showed up on delivery day to make sure everything went smoothly. The delivery crew was fantastic too. They were really careful bringing the furniture in, taking their time to make sure nothing got scratched at doorways. Everything came wrapped in plastic that they removed and took with them. From the initial consultation all the way through delivery, it was a positive experience. We'll definitely be back to look at recliners.
I ordered two chairs back in early 2022 after being told to expect a five to six month wait because of supply chain issues. I was prepared for that timeline. Fast forward and now I'm being told the chairs won't arrive until December. I've called twice asking for someone in management to see if anything could be done to speed things up since I'm hosting Thanksgiving and really wanted to have seating ready, but haven't gotten a call back. I've been a loyal customer for years with pieces from my parents plus several orders of my own including a dining set and multiple sofas, but this experience has turned me off completely. The customer service response has been really disappointing and I won't be ordering from them again.
I bought a sofa and matching love seat from Michael Francis at the local Ethan Allen store and I'm thrilled with the whole experience. I wasn't very experienced with furniture shopping, and Michael was incredibly patient and helpful throughout. I changed my mind about what I wanted three different times, but Michael never made me feel rushed. He really knows his stuff when it comes to styles and pieces. He even came to my home with two different leather samples since I couldn't decide between colors. His help picking out pillow colors was invaluable too. He turned what could have been stressful into something fun and enjoyable. I felt totally confident in my final choice. When my furniture arrived, I was so excited to see it all in person. The leather feels amazing and is really durable. I keep getting compliments from people who visit. I'm extremely happy with Ethan Allen as a company and I'd recommend Michael Francis without hesitation. If I ever need furniture again, Michael will be the one helping me pick it out. Thank you so much Michael!
I placed an order for chairs on August 28 with an estimated delivery in late December or early January. Now it's February and they're saying May. That's nine months total. The delay since December is fabric related, but I can't switch fabrics since the chairs are supposedly already in the production queue. I also can't cancel the order and get a refund. The customer service team isn't really helpful but they seem really confident about it all. They keep telling me I need to be patient and reminding me that 'you signed a contract.'
Back in January of last year I dropped fifteen thousand dollars on bedroom furniture. I was told that because of longer wait times, I should expect delivery somewhere between April and May. I kept checking my order online and every time I looked, the delivery date got pushed back further. The dresser was supposed to show up in April but just arrived last week after I've been living out of storage boxes for seven months. Now my bed, which was originally supposed to come in May, won't arrive until late October at the earliest, possibly even later. Ethan Allen keeps saying on their website that delivery is six months, which is still way longer than what I was originally told. I was torn between this bed and a similar one from another company, and I absolutely would have gone with the other brand if I'd known it would take this long. I'm really frustrated with how this whole thing has played out.
I get that reviews come down to individual experiences. That said, when retail staff are paid entirely on commission with month-end pressure, your experience might suffer. When you escalate concerns to corporate and they get passed back down to the store level, people get defensive and the service pretty much disappears. If you're relocating to the Charleston area whether it's a primary or secondary home, I'd suggest checking out other furniture options first. You'll probably have a better time with someone else.
Our custom sofa order turned out to be an amazing experience from start to finish. Top quality product, outstanding service, and delivery was handled beautifully. The sofa actually arrived a full month before we expected it to. We're so grateful to Ethan Allen and we'll be getting all our furniture from them going forward.
I wish I could give this zero stars. You're pushed into paying extra to become a 'member' for better pricing, then the next sale offers those same prices to everyone else. The designers act like they're famous fashion icons, and if you want anything outside their inventory, good luck because they can only recommend products they actually carry. How can they give you objective design advice when their suggestions are limited to what's in stock? Not going back.
I absolutely love Ethan Allen. Sure, it costs a lot and you're looking at three to four months for delivery, but everything is created specifically for you when you order. They don't stock most items in a warehouse unless you buy something directly off the display floor. That's actually really great because you typically get to customize by choosing your colors and fabrics. When we were building our home, I used their complimentary design service. They sent out a professional decorator to measure the space, listen to our ideas, and create a full plan for the room. Then you head to the store and they show you all their options for colors and designs. It's really a fun process. The pieces are beautiful and built to last. Their delivery and setup team will come set everything up in your home for around one hundred to one hundred fifty dollars, and they're super professional about it. I've also ordered window treatments that were custom-made and installed, and that process was equally smooth. It's pricey, absolutely, but it's worth every penny.
Ethan Allen is absolutely fantastic, and I mean that. Yes, it's pricey and delivery takes a solid 3-4 months since everything is custom-made for you rather than pulled from warehouse stock, but that's actually a benefit. You get to pick your colors and fabrics to match exactly what you want. I took advantage of their free design service when we were building our house. A professional designer came out, measured everything, listened to what we had in mind, and put together a full plan. After that we visited the showroom to see all their fabric and color options in person. It was genuinely enjoyable. The quality is outstanding and the pieces are beautiful. When everything arrived, their delivery team set it all up for about $100-150, and they were extremely professional. I've also gotten custom window treatments from them that were installed perfectly. It's definitely an investment, but you're getting what you pay for.
