What Shoppers Say About Frontier Natural Products
Frontier Natural Products has a severely problematic rating of 1.1 out of 5 from 7 shoppers, with 86 percent giving it one star. Shoppers report serious quality control issues including expired products (some by 17 years), foreign contamination in tea (bird feathers, insects, debris), and lack of transparency about product processing like heat-treated seeds. Customer service failures are a major complaint: the company refuses to share safety documentation like lead testing reports, offers inadequate support through phone and email, and directs responsibility back to third-party sellers like Amazon rather than taking accountability for their own products.
Delivery and fulfillment problems compound customer dissatisfaction. Multiple reviewers describe unresolved issues with packages delivered without photographic confirmation or proper address placement, orders filled with items expiring within days of arrival, and restrictive return policies that include restocking fees. When customers attempt to escalate concerns, they encounter either silence or deflection. The combination of product safety concerns, customer service unresponsiveness, and business practice opacity creates a pattern that has resulted in overwhelming negative sentiment.

Sorted by: Most recentThe actual product itself is fine, but the company is a nightmare to deal with. According to tracking, my package was delivered several days ahead of schedule to a time when nobody was home. Usually UPS includes delivery confirmation photos, but this one has nothing. The package isn't on my porch, not at either building entrance, not in my mailbox, not in the package room, and my neighbors don't have it either. Despite the fact that it was clearly never delivered, the seller refuses to take any responsibility and I'm out the money.
I ordered Chinese five spice powder through Amazon that arrived with a best by date from July 2008. That's seventeen years expired. Neither Frontier nor Amazon will offer any refund or replacement. Frontier's response said they can't help with Amazon purchases, directing me back to Amazon. Amazon's food policy states items aren't returnable for food safety reasons, but defective items can be returned within thirty days. The whole situation is ridiculous and I got stuck with an unusable product.
Seriously concerned about this company's integrity. I discovered their cinnamon may contain lead levels and reached out to ask about it. When I also requested the test report for the organic crushed pepper I purchased, they refused to share any documentation. That's a major red flag since every other company I've contacted has been happy to provide those reports. Their response basically said they meet New York State standards and fall below industry limits according to Lead Safe Mama, but the fact that they won't be transparent about it is troubling.
Don't let the friendly tone fool you, this customer service is inadequate. I received an order with five units of the same product, and every single one was set to expire roughly a week after delivery. I tried multiple times to get in touch with customer service through phone and email. Once, they asked me to send extensive photos of the issue, which seemed unnecessary but I did it right away. Three days later and I still haven't heard anything back. At this point I've decided I'm taking my business elsewhere because their follow-up is just too slow. It's also telling that they never respond to any of these negative reviews on here. Should've checked this site before ordering.
The tea quality is absolutely unacceptable. I bought a one pound package of their raspberry leaf tea through Amazon and found a bird feather inside when I opened it. That's seriously unhygienic and unsafe. Looking at other customer feedback, there are reports of mouse tails, insects, mold, and general debris turning up in their tea products. I'm appalled by how this keeps happening and will never purchase from them again.
The company itself seems okay, but their business practices aren't transparent enough. I bought sprouting seeds from them, and nowhere on their site or FAQs do they mention the seeds are heat treated. Turns out they cook the seeds to kill off mold and bacteria during storage. When I called to return them, I learned they charge both a restocking fee and a return shipping fee, which means you won't get your money back. Just because something says organic doesn't mean it hasn't gone through processing or treatment, and they should be upfront about that.
The quality of products here is solid, but wow is the customer service a mess. I placed an order for three items and the initial shipment went to the wrong state entirely. When I contacted customer service, they promised to send a replacement and said they'd include tracking information. Spoiler alert: no tracking number ever came. When the package finally arrived, only two of the three items were inside. I reached back out to report the problem, but the representative insisted everything had been sent. Even after I pointed out she was looking at the wrong order and showed her the packing slip proving only two items, she just stopped responding. I eventually had to request account closure.
