What Shoppers Say About Getty Images
Getty Images receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 17 reviews averaging 1.9 out of 5. The dominant complaint centers on subscription and billing practices, with multiple reviewers reporting unauthorized charges, difficult cancellation processes, and inadequate disclosure of renewal terms. Customers describe feeling trapped by subscription models and report that customer service representatives refused refunds, citing fine print terms. A smaller subset of reviewers also question the originality of Getty Images' photo collection, suggesting images are recycled from other platforms.
Among the small number of positive reviews, some shoppers appear satisfied with the service, representing 18 percent of ratings. However, the vast majority of feedback (76 percent one-star reviews) reflects serious trust issues with the company's business practices. Concerns about subscription transparency, aggressive billing, and customer service responsiveness appear to be the primary factors driving the low overall rating.

I opened a free trial account with iStock, which is owned by Getty Images, and got hit with a $70 charge that I never authorized. When I called to cancel and get my money back, customer service kept telling me the charge is final and blamed me for not reading all the small print. Honestly, who reads every single detail in terms and conditions? After going back and forth with multiple reps without getting anywhere, I'm filing a dispute with my credit card company for fraud. It's pretty clear why Getty Images stock has been tanking since their public offering in 2022. The way they operate, treat customers, and their overall reputation speaks for itself.
A user shared a group of photos that included inappropriate comments that were pretty offensive to one person featured in them, making derogatory statements and attacking the creator as well. I wanted to post my own comment responding to one of the people who made mean remarks, offering a different perspective about the subject. My message simply pointed out that the commenter seemed envious and bitter, jealous of the family's relationships and accomplishments. However, your site rejected and removed my comment. But somehow all those harsh original comments stayed up. Is there a double standard here? Apparently the person who took down my response disagrees with my viewpoint. How is it acceptable to allow those mean-spirited remarks but block mine? This is really unfair!!!!!!
I started a free trial back in December and then just let it slip my mind. After trying it out once, I realized their image collection wasn't special enough for my professional work needs, so I stopped using it. The company gave zero warning about my subscription renewing, and they charged me in the middle of the night. When I contacted them to stop and ask for my money back right after updating my credit card info, they refused saying refunds aren't part of their policy. I lost $70 for nothing. Everyone needs to know about their aggressive billing tactics!
The photos they're selling are recycled from other platforms. For instance, a Rabat photo by a photographer with a similar name appears on the Hotel Four Seasons Rabat website as well.
I was nervous based on all the negative feedback I'd read, worried I'd have trouble canceling my trial. I couldn't figure out where to do it on the website either, so I sent an email. They got back to me in just a couple hours and confirmed my subscription was cancelled. That was actually a great experience! The one thing they should improve is making it possible to cancel directly through your account without needing to contact support.
