What Shoppers Say About Heartland Vet Supply
Heartland Vet Supply has a polarized customer base. Satisfied long-term customers praise the company's competitive pricing, reliable automatic shipment programs, and responsive customer service, particularly for subscription orders that arrive on schedule. However, a significant portion of shoppers report serious fulfillment issues, including substantial delays in order processing and shipping, unresponsive communication when following up on orders, and inconsistent delivery timelines. Several reviewers noted waiting days or longer for orders to ship despite explicit requests for expedited processing, and some cited poor communication or excuses when they attempted to resolve delays.
The divide appears to correlate with order type, with subscription and recurring customers generally reporting positive experiences while one-time or occasional buyers encounter fulfillment problems. Shoppers who have had issues describe frustration with unmet expectations around processing speed and customer service responsiveness, suggesting potential operational challenges with non-subscription orders or inconsistent internal processes.

Sorted by: Most recentHeartland Vet Supply has absolutely no customer service to speak of. Four days ago I placed an order for my dog's medication and requested expedited processing. A representative assured me it would ship that same day. Four days have gone by and USPS still hasn't received it. I've sent multiple emails asking for an update and keep getting the same automated response claiming it was shipped. It's clear there's virtually zero actual customer support happening here.
We've been on their automatic shipment program for a full year now with zero issues. They're actually more convenient than human pharmacies. Our fur baby never misses a medication dose because everything arrives like clockwork. Their customer service team really takes care of things. They even went the extra mile to track down my prescription in their mail system when my vet wouldn't refill it over the phone.
I've got a subscription set up with Heartland Vet Supply for some horse supplements. They've maintained solid pricing and have consistently delivered right on schedule over the last couple of years without any problems.
We've been ordering prescription meds for our dachshunds from Heartland Vet Supply many times over the years. Their team has always treated us with respect, and despite being located far away, we consistently get our orders delivered promptly. The prices beat anything else we've compared, so we plan to keep coming back.
This was my second time ordering from them and both experiences were disappointing. The first order sat around for an unusually long time before I had to call and push them to ship it out. On my second attempt, I waited five days and nothing showed up. I logged in to check the status and saw it still hadn't shipped. After calling to ask what was going on, they told me the product was out of stock. Would it have killed them to send me a quick message about that? They seem way too busy to communicate with customers. If you have a sick pet that needs medication fast, go with someone like Chewy instead.
The only positive thing about this place is the pricing. Beyond that, I've got nothing but frustration from dealing with them over the past year. My dog's prescription took 9 business days to travel just 300 miles from one state to another, and that was honestly the breaking point. There's always some excuse, some reason why things aren't getting done on schedule. They're completely unresponsive when you call, and all you get are more excuses. If your pet actually needs medication urgently, I'd strongly recommend paying extra and using someone else. These guys don't follow through, and when you call upset about their failures, they get short with you instead of taking responsibility. After months of increasingly frustrating interactions, I asked them to transfer my dog's prescription elsewhere and they just ignored my request. Save yourself the headache. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because the prices are low, but that doesn't make up for the unreliability. They clearly don't care about keeping repeat customers happy.
This was a terrible experience and my one and only order with them. I regret it deeply. On January 2nd, I placed an order and they charged me sixty dollars plus another thirty for expedited shipping, but the time-sensitive medication never arrived. Buy from literally anyone else. This outfit deserves to be flagged on the BBB for fraudulent practices.
Honestly, one star feels too generous for this company. Three days ago we lost our 20 year old cat. A couple of days before that, I received an automated shipment of 50mg Gabapentin tablets from Heartland, which I hadn't even opened since I still had plenty from my previous order. When I asked if they'd refund me and offered to send the package back, they flat out refused. Compare that to my experiences with Chewy and Covetrus, who both gave me full refunds on recent purchases, suggested I donate the items to animal shelters, and Chewy even sent flowers. The only reason I went with Heartland in the first place was because they were the sole option for 50mg tablets at that time. Chewy carries 100mg capsules for way less money, but splitting capsules to get the right dose was a hassle. Either way, I'm done with them and wouldn't recommend them to anyone. They really should rebrand themselves as Heartless.
Do not trust this company if you need medication for your pet in a hurry. I submitted an urgent prescription a week ago, and after five days of silence from them (even though my vet and I both sent the script to them), I called to ask them to reach out to my vet. When I didn't hear back, I had to cancel the whole thing because my cat couldn't wait any longer. They don't pick up their phone or check voicemails. Then a week later, after I'd already cancelled, they suddenly sent the prescription overnight. Their communication was basically nonexistent. One email took them two days to answer, and three separate voicemail messages went completely ignored.
