What Shoppers Say About Hotel Xcaret
Hotel Xcaret receives highly polarized reviews, with shoppers rating it 2.0 out of 5 across 5 ratings. Guests who had positive experiences consistently praise the beautiful resort grounds, quality of dining, attentive front line staff, entertaining activities, and wellness facilities. However, the majority of recent reviews focus on serious concerns about the resort's membership sales practices, with guests reporting aggressive timeshare pitches, unfulfilled membership promises, and perks that are unavailable without additional fees. Several reviewers note that while the actual hotel property and services are excellent, the membership model and associated business practices have significantly diminished their satisfaction and willingness to return.
Management responsiveness appears inconsistent, with at least one guest reporting an unhelpful interaction with a manager regarding membership concerns. The contrast between glowing praise for the physical property and facilities against negative experiences with the business side suggests that potential visitors should carefully evaluate what they are booking and be prepared for sales-focused interactions during their stay.

Sorted by: Most recentStayed at this resort for almost two weeks and had visited before, so I signed up for their membership program. Unfortunately, it was a pretty rough experience. When I was leaving, a manager named Ricardo wasn't at all accommodating with my concerns, which was really upsetting given how gorgeous the location is. The restaurant offerings have tanked in quality. Overall, felt like I threw my money away.
On the positive side, the resort grounds, dining spots, and front line staff are top notch. But here's where it gets bad: the aggressive timeshare sales pitch completely turned us off from ever coming back. Everyone in that welcome center is single-mindedly pushing the membership. We went ahead and booked the 90 minute intro session, but then we saw their membership requirements and the fact they wanted our credit card details right away made me cancel. Canceling itself was a headache. A staff member named Cecilia wasn't helpful and frankly had a terrible attitude for someone in her role, though she eventually processed it. Then there's the photo situation. We got access to hundreds of pictures but paid $160 and only received a fraction. The pictures from our island boat tour wouldn't download properly and the park videos cost extra and looked cheap. Plus at check in they said king bed rooms weren't available without paying $780 to $2500 just to change what we booked. That ended up costing us another $800. We absolutely will not be returning.
I won't repeat what other guests have already shared about the core problems with this Mexico destination club membership model. My advice is simple: don't sign up. I was promised a bunch of perks that turned out to be either fake or only available if you pay extra on top of everything else. It's disappointing because the actual hotels are wonderful and the team members are fantastic, but the membership program will drain your wallet and waste your time. I'm currently a member and when I recently reached out to get answers about what I'm supposedly entitled to, they just shut down the conversation. Just steer clear of this.
Hands down the best hotel stay I've had. The people there are incredibly warm and welcoming, and everything is just beautiful. The meals were delicious, the activities are entertaining, and the wellness center is absolutely incredible. It's truly a special place, and everyone involved in creating and running it should be really proud.
The resort itself probably has great stuff to do, but that gets overshadowed when they work with shady third party platforms like the one we booked through. We had a trip planned from the New York area for late March 2020 right when the pandemic hit hard. Things fell apart when borders closed and we faced lockdown during the worst outbreak period. The resort had already closed most attractions by that date and stopped taking new guests shortly after. Yet neither the booking site nor the hotel will budge on our $3,000 reservation. They keep saying they can't help directly and we have to go through the middle company, which is nonsense. They're the actual hotel and could fix this if they wanted to. They can give us our money back or let us rebook, but they won't, and that tells you everything about how much they care about keeping customers happy.
