What Shoppers Say About Apex Hotels UK
Apex Hotels UK receives deeply polarized reviews, with shoppers either expressing strong satisfaction or significant disappointment. Positive reviewers praise the modern, spacious rooms, immaculate cleanliness, helpful front desk staff, and convenient London locations. These satisfied guests highlight the hotels' willingness to accommodate special requests and provide complimentary upgrades. However, the majority of reviews reflect serious operational failures. Common complaints include dirty and moldy rooms, inadequate housekeeping services with late or poor-quality cleaning, broken air conditioning, noisy environments, maintenance issues (faulty toilets, falling apart furniture), and unmet special needs (such as failure to provide allergy-appropriate synthetic bedding despite prior confirmation). Dining experiences are also criticized as poor quality with cold food and minimal service.
The stark contrast between five-star and one-star ratings suggests inconsistency across locations and service standards. While some guests have excellent experiences, particularly those celebrating special occasions, others encounter substandard cleanliness, broken amenities, and a failure to honor explicit health and comfort requests. These recurring issues regarding housekeeping standards, room maintenance, and attention to guest requirements represent serious concerns for potential visitors.

Sorted by: Most recentWhat a terrible experience. We stayed last November and specifically made sure the hotel understood that my 78-year-old mother needs synthetic bedding because she has a severe allergy to feathers and down that nearly caused a serious health crisis in the past. The hotel confirmed they knew about this when we booked. When we arrived and checked her room, there was a feather and down duvet with matching pillows. My husband went right to the desk to report the problem and showed them our emails about the allergy. They said they'd investigate what went wrong and get back to us with an explanation. We never heard anything, despite sending two follow-up messages asking about it. They didn't even bother to acknowledge our emails. At breakfast the next morning, we were seated at a dirty table. They asked us to grab coffee while they cleaned it, but then they forgot about us completely. They served people who came in after us and had their full meals, while we sat waiting. My husband finally had to get up and flag down a server.
We had our wedding reception at the Apex Hotel on Waterloo Place a year ago, and they generously gave us a complimentary night for our anniversary this year. We stayed last Sunday and it was absolutely wonderful. The people at the front desk made us feel welcome and let us know we'd been upgraded to a suite instead of a regular double. The suite was stunning with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. We grabbed breakfast at the hotel which was lovely, and the brioche French toast is something you have to try. Afterwards we went down to the pool and sauna, which were peaceful and well-maintained. Everything about this hotel and our stay was fantastic. We're already thinking about making this our annual anniversary tradition because it was so special. The area is really convenient too, sitting right near the train station in the city center.
Second time staying here and both visits were unpleasant. Not a nice place to stay. The place is noisy, the air conditioning barely works, and the toilet had problems.
The £304 we spent on 2 nights at Apex Bath was not worth it at all. The room was dirty, had mold, dust everywhere, and was noisy. It wasn't cleaned until 15:30, which is way too late. We went back to the room twice during the day hoping to rest before going out, but it still hadn't been cleaned. When it finally was, the job was sloppy. This was marketed as a luxury experience, and frankly I would have been more comfortable at home in my own bed. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and left very let down.
Our time at Temple Court was wonderful from start to finish. The location is ideal for getting around London, with easy access to tubes and buses nearby. Rooms were modern, immaculate, and generous in size, and the bathrooms were gorgeous. We requested a quieter room and they made that happen without any hassle. The team at the front desk and bar area were genuinely friendly and helpful. There's a nice outdoor courtyard where you can hang out, plus a peaceful lounge and bar for relaxing with drinks or coffee between activities. One evening we had fantastic cocktails by the fire with friends, and even though it was one of their busiest winter periods, the place didn't feel crowded at all. We want to give special thanks to the Operations Manager who helped us out when we had an issue with our stored luggage. He was incredibly kind and professional about getting it sorted quickly. That kind of personal attention really stood out. This was our first visit, but we're definitely coming back.
Don't stay here or eat at this hotel. Pillowcases had stains, coffee cups were cracked, towels and coffee were in short supply, and the furniture was falling apart. We went for a festive dinner and it was absolutely horrible. The food was disgusting and cold, there was basically no service, the dining room had no decorations and felt empty and soulless, and the staff was nowhere to be found. The customer service was very rude, and the manager showed no goodwill even though we traveled 3 hours during a storm. The experience was appalling. We brought up issues at the time, so it's not like we didn't speak up. They gave us wrong drinks, no music, zero atmosphere, and there was a loud party in the next room the whole time. We told them it didn't feel festive at all and it was like eating in a school cafeteria. Don't waste your money on festive dining unless you enjoy bad food, no staff, and wrong orders. There were no decorations in the room and 17 of us left hugely disappointed. The events manager was very rude and clearly doesn't understand customer service. They clearly don't care about keeping customers. Don't risk it.
We spent 2 nights at Apex Waterloo Place Hotel in September for our wedding and it was lovely. Charlotte from the Events team was excellent, managing our wedding dinner and coordinating rooms for all our guests. The hotel felt modern and beautiful, and every staff member we met was extremely friendly. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the pool area was wonderful. We're definitely coming back.
I couldn't get through to Apex Waterloo Place Hotel Edinburgh on their direct line this evening, and I have a current reservation I need to to modify. Impossible to reach them. Then I tried their 0800 reservations line and got the same result. It doesn't give you confidence when you can't get a major hotel to answer the phone at 18:20 on a weekday evening. I'm cancelling my booking and going elsewhere. Will not be staying with Apex again.
No need to use a lot of words here. Our stay at Apex Quay Dundee was excellent every single day. This hotel checks every box. The staff treats you with genuine kindness that's hard to beat. The weather in November was beautiful too. We'll have wonderful memories of this place for years to come.
