What Shoppers Say About Just Food For Dogs
Just Food For Dogs receives sharply divided feedback, with a significant portion of shoppers reporting serious operational and customer service issues. Common complaints center on subscription billing problems (charges for undesired recurring shipments), unresponsive customer service when disputes arise, product quality concerns (undercooked vegetables, formula changes without notification), and weight discrepancies on prescription diets. Some shoppers also report that the website interface makes subscription management difficult and that cancellation requests are not honored.
A smaller group of satisfied customers appreciate the products themselves and indicate they would continue ordering if service issues were resolved. However, the overwhelming majority of recent reviews reflect frustration with how the company handles problems after purchase, particularly regarding refunds, subscription management, and responsiveness to complaints about product quality and accuracy.

Sorted by: Most recentProducts Are Fine, but the Customer Service Fell Short. I've been ordering from them for a while and recently tried one of their brand new products. Before I bought it, I made sure to ask if they'd take it back if my dogs didn't enjoy it, especially since it was just released and untested for us. They said absolutely. We had gotten a refund on something else before, so I thought this would be straightforward. When the dogs wouldn't eat it and I contacted them about returning it, they suddenly said no refund. That was annoying because they had promised the opposite before I paid. The actual food quality is usually solid, but how a company treats you matters a ton. When a business tells you something will happen, they've gotta follow through. This situation left me feeling let down and uncertain if I can trust what they tell me going forward.
Got Charged for Shipments I Never Requested. I have an active subscription that arrives at my house regularly, but I ordered one batch to go to my mom's place while she was watching my pup during a trip. That specific order was not set up as a recurring subscription because it was only needed once. Two weeks later, they automatically sent another shipment to my mom's house without my permission. I called them and they basically said too bad and no refund. Now my mom's freezer is packed with dog food but she doesn't have any dogs, so I told her to give it away since she's far from me and I won't visit for months. On top of that, this company has sent me two wrong orders in the past - stuff my dogs would never eat. Their support team was rude and unhelpful, so I'm finding a different brand.
Heads Up to Dog Owners: Formula Got Changed Without Warning. JFFD modified their Joint & Skin Support formula without letting anyone know or updating the label, and still haven't released an updated Typical Nutrient Analysis. When I gave it to my dogs, they had serious reactions that stopped right away once I switched back. Their customer service has been really poor. Instead of actually caring about safety or being honest about what changed, they just delay and push customers toward their pricier custom diet options. I'm seeing the same complaints pop up over and over in their reviews - stuff about the food quality being inconsistent and reliability issues. The good news is I found other fresh-food companies that are actually transparent, way more affordable, and genuinely prioritize your dog's health over making money. They spell out where their ingredients come from and share complete nutrition info. Your pets deserve better than this. There are definitely superior choices out there.
The Sweet Potatoes Are Undercooked. I wanted to keep using the fish and sweet potato recipe, but the sweet potatoes aren't cooked properly. They look the same coming out as they do going in, which means your dog can't actually digest them. I've reached out to complain but they don't seem to care. They just dismiss the issue without taking it seriously.
Weight Discrepancy Is Unacceptable. I got their low protein hepatic diet that requires a vet prescription. The label said each package was 18 oz, and seven of them cost me 76 dollars. I figured it was worth it if it helps my dog's condition. Then I looked closer and noticed they mention different weights on their site, so I decided to weigh the package myself. It was 18 oz when frozen, sure, but once I thawed it out the food was extremely watery. I poured it through a strainer but couldn't get all the water out even when I squeezed it with my hands. When I put the actual food on the scale after draining as much as I could, it only weighed 12 oz. How is that fair? Are they charging me for the packaging and label and manufacturing or something? How can they claim 18 oz when you're really getting 12 oz or possibly even less? I emailed them about it and their response was to ask where I purchased it. That made no sense. I told them they're the ones who packed it, not some store. I'm probably going to make my own again since I refuse to pay for water. I'm looking for something low in copper, low in phosphates, and low in protein for his liver issues. I'll keep searching. I have photos of all this too.
Really Not Dependable. The website isn't very intuitive and canceling autoship doesn't actually cancel your shipment. When I tried reaching out to cancel an order, they claimed there was nothing they could do after Thursday and said they had sent emails about their policy, but I've checked and never got anything like that. Now I'm looking at over 300 dollars in unexpected charges. Plus, the specific prescription food my vet recommended for my dog is almost always out of stock. I do like that their food keeps my pup in good health, but honestly their customer support needs serious work.
Watch Out for That First Order Discount Deal. The 50% discount they offer on your first purchase sounds good until you realize they don't actually send your complete order. Then you have to battle to get your cash back. They told me they'd refund me because of their satisfaction guarantee policy, but the refund never showed up. I ended up having to dispute the charge through my credit card company. It shouldn't work that way after they confirm a refund. I'm not buying from them again.
Started Noticing Excessive Itching. I decided to use their recipe and prepare the food at home. I went with the Cod and Potatoes option. After about four weeks, my dog began scratching way more than usual across his whole body. I'm not totally certain it's the food itself, but he didn't have this problem before when I was making my own meals with chicken, rice, green beans and broccoli. I'm trying to figure out if I should look for something different. On the plus side, he absolutely loves the taste.
They Just Want Your Money, Not Your Pup's Wellbeing. This company acts like they're only interested in profits. I spent 270 dollars and regret it completely. My order showed up in just a gray plastic bag with no actual box or padding. Super disappointing.
Their Online Shipping Is a Mess. The delivery service through their website is really bad. They don't give you updates on where your order is or when it'll come. They don't respond to messages or phone calls either. It's been over a week since I ordered and I still haven't heard anything about when my food will arrive.
