This was a really positive experience overall for our whole family. Several relatives participated, so I'm sharing feedback for all of us plus my own impressions of navigating the site and checking out the results. We were really impressed by how thorough the regional English breakdown was on our samples, and it lined up nicely with our family records while also throwing in some unexpected findings. My mother's results confirmed her British roots. My father's showed mostly Eastern European heritage mixed with Irish and English. We also got the Viking ancestry add-on which was super cool and seemed like good value for the twenty pound price tag. The main frustration I had was that the website switches between profiles in a clunky way sometimes. There's this delay that happens when you're changing profiles, so if you've got two or more people on one account, you could end up looking at the wrong person's map. It'd be helpful if there was more detail about which specific regions are included in the British breakdown, like being able to see exactly which counties fall under something like East Anglia. There's not really a way to know if Living DNA's version of Central England uses the same boundaries as what you'd find online elsewhere. North and South Yorkshire sections seem to cover areas from what used to be called West Riding and what's now East Riding.

Their support team knocked it out of the park with how fast they answered my complicated question and how clearly they explained everything. Really enjoying this service so far. No matter which platform I use, I seem to only find distant connections anyway. Just started using the tree builder feature and it's working nicely as it processes my data. Looks like I'll be able to build out a solid family tree here. So far this is hitting all the right marks.

The accuracy and specificity here is seriously impressive compared to what I got elsewhere. My mom did extensive research on our family history, so I already knew we had English, Scottish, Welsh, and Irish roots on one side, and mostly Finnish ancestry on the other. When I used a different testing company first, I got really fuzzy results showing Balkan, East European, and Scandinavian mix with just 15% Celtic and zero English. I decided to try Living DNA, which is UK-based and seemed to specialize more in this area, and uploaded my previous results. The breakdown I got back was exactly what I expected: 25% English from central England, 25% mix of Welsh, Scottish and Irish with detailed regional info, and 50% Finnish. If you're in Europe, especially the UK and Ireland, Living DNA is clearly the best choice. The level of detail they provide is unmatched.
