What Shoppers Say About Magnolia Bakery
Magnolia Bakery receives highly polarized feedback, with shoppers either praising specific items like their key lime pie, banana pudding pastry, and chocolate lovers cupcakes, or expressing significant disappointment with shipped orders. Those who visit in person appreciate the quality of cakes and pies and enjoy the cafe experience despite occasional wait times. However, multiple customers report serious issues with mail orders, including frozen or stale-tasting baked goods upon arrival, incorrect shipping methods (standard instead of overnight), and delayed deliveries that missed intended occasions. The disparity suggests the bakery's strength lies in fresh, in-person purchases, while their mail delivery process and frozen shipping methods appear to compromise product quality.
Shoppers who had positive experiences emphasize the importance of ordering the right products (cakes and pies over cupcakes, according to one reviewer) and receiving items on time. Conversely, those disappointed with deliveries cite taste quality issues and shipping complications as major concerns. The recurring problem with frozen or stale flavors in shipped items suggests potential challenges with how products are preserved and thawed during transit.

Sorted by: Most recentSent an apple crumb pie out of state to my mother as a Thanksgiving surprise since it's her go-to pie. The package arrived on time as expected and was frozen solid. The instructions said to let it sit on the counter for a couple hours then pop it in the oven at 350 degrees for half an hour. She did exactly that, but the crust turned out soft and mushy instead of crispy. She even tried baking it longer thinking that would help, but nope, still doughy. She had to toss the whole thing. That was a waste of cash between the pie itself and the shipping cost. Won't be ordering their pies again. Their cupcakes might be solid, but I'd skip the pie selection.
I placed an order for a birthday cake a week in advance and paid extra for overnight shipping. Unfortunately it didn't arrive on the actual birthday, and they said it was a carrier issue. Then it got pushed back again to the following week. When I called the shipping company, they told me the cake had actually been sent standard shipping, not overnight like I paid for. I couldn't even arrange local pickup since it was a perishable item. I won't be giving Magnolia another chance for important occasions. You don't get a second birthday, and no apology is going to make that right.
We got a confetti cake delivered to celebrate our 25 years together. It showed up right on schedule and in perfect condition. The problem was the taste - it had that frozen, stale flavor to it, definitely not fresh. Considering what we paid, I thought it would be incredible, but honestly we were let down. Probably won't order for delivery again, though maybe if we bought it in person it would be different.
Outstanding spot for coffee and pastries. Yeah, you might wait in line sometimes and service can be a bit slow, but these folks are totally worth your patience. I try to stop by whenever I can get away, especially when I need some downtime. Their banana pudding pastry is fantastic. I love bringing friends and family here when they're visiting from out of state.
If you're visiting, skip past the cupcakes and head straight for their cakes and pies instead. Seriously, try their key lime pie if you get the chance - absolutely fantastic!!!!
