What Shoppers Say About Milk Bar
Milk Bar is rated 1.6 out of 5 by 10 shoppers, with the vast majority of reviews citing serious issues with product quality, shipping, and packaging. Customers report receiving damaged or spoiled items due to inadequate temperature control during transit, unsealed or improperly sealed boxes, products that don't match descriptions (missing fillings and frostings on cakes), and long shipping delays that result in perishable goods arriving in inedible condition. Pricing concerns also appear frequently, with some shoppers feeling the products are overpriced relative to quality.
The few positive aspects mentioned relate to customer service responsiveness when complaints are made, though shoppers note that compensation (such as discount codes) feels insufficient given the cost of orders and the impact of receiving spoiled food items. One reviewer acknowledged the company's support team provided good guidance after a delivery problem, but this did not offset frustration with late arrival and product degradation. Overall, the combination of fulfillment and quality control problems dominates shopper feedback, with most reviewers expressing disappointment given Milk Bar's reputation as a former standout bakery.

Sorted by: Most recentComplete waste ordering here! I got a cake for my spouse's birthday with delivery requested for 3/7. The third party shipping company (FedEx) didn't show up until 3/10, which was three days too late. The cake went bad, so I contacted Milk Bar's support team. Their answer? Not our problem, blame FedEx. Here's a 20% off coupon as compensation. That's ridiculous! Why would I spend more money on another item that's just going to expire? Total rip-off.
Way too pricey for what you get! These cookies are nothing special and the prices are absolutely unreasonable.
Placed an order back in November to get here by Christmas Eve, but it got held up during shipping and didn't show until after the holiday. Some items were perishable and had gone bad by arrival time, which sucked given when I needed them. However, the customer service team was genuinely fantastic. Right when I reached out, they told me not to eat anything, gave me a full refund on the holiday collection, reshipped the birthday cake truffles, and threw in a discount code toward my next order. They handled it thoughtfully, responsibly, and seemed to actually care about making things right. Getting perishable items through the mail during the busy holiday rush is tricky, but I really respected how Milk Bar took care of the problem once they found out about it.
This place used to be amazing back when I knew it as a standout bakery in NYC, but that's totally changed now. Recently I visited and found the team pretty scattered and didn't seem to know much about how things work there. No one appeared to be running the show, and the workers just seemed uninterested. It's sad to find out that the people working there aren't even trying to build careers in pastry work. On top of that, it looks like the head pastry chef who made this brand famous isn't really involved in running the day-to-day operations. Given all this, I'm thinking about giving my business to other bakeries around the city that actually care about doing things right and treating their craft with respect.
The box showed up completely unsealed, which is unacceptable for a food item. What I got wasn't what was promised: layers and layers of dry cake and cheesecake, but none of the described fillings and frosting. Now I can't even enjoy pumpkin anymore, which I normally love. I'm too nervous to buy the chocolate version after this. Customer service sent back a generic template reply asking for photos and details I'd already given them initially. This was a huge letdown for my hard-earned cash and the effort I put into explaining what went wrong.
Ordered a cake, pie, some truffles, and cookies on July 15 for an August 2 birthday delivery. When the box arrived on August 2, it was 90 degrees outside and they threw in just one ice pack for four items. The cake frosting melted and slid off, so I didn't risk eating anything else since it was scorching. Dropped almost $160 on this order. Called right away and got nothing back. Terrible business all around. Don't buy from them or they'll rip you off.
I have zero positive things to say about this operation. I ordered a cake for August 1st delivery for a birthday party. I got order confirmation and payment went through, but when August 1st came around, the cake hadn't even been given to the shipping company yet. I checked the tracking myself because they won't pick up phones or respond to messages. I sent an email on August 1st morning asking for updates and didn't get a reply until August 3rd. Other people on Instagram confirmed they've had the same problem. SKIP THIS COMPANY ENTIRELY. Because they never communicated, my birthday gathering had no dessert, which totally killed the vibe for the whole event. This company should be embarrassed. I'd give them zero stars if the system allowed it.
Placed an order Tuesday for Saturday delivery but got shipped Wednesday instead. By Monday morning still nothing. Zero communication from the company. Since this was a perishable item, it's ruined by now. Don't waste your time here.
The company made a big deal about the $160 cake decorating class being designed for two participants but glossed over the fact that those two people build just one small 6 inch cake. Basically you're paying $160 to assemble your own box of cake for around 25 to 30 minutes. I got this for my friend's 26th birthday celebration. She said class kicked off at 11:40 and her finished cake was chilling in the fridge by 12:07. Total waste. My friend got to do the whole thing, but I missed it because my train was behind schedule. I called 20 minutes early to ask if we could push back to noon since the transit delay was announced, and they said that wouldn't work except within a 15 minute window I already knew I couldn't make. When I finally got there, they mentioned if I'd waited until 11:45 they could have cancelled and rebooked me instead. So because I gave them a heads up about the delay, they chose to just tell me to stick with the grace period I said wouldn't work. I didn't get to participate in the experience.
My original shipment never went out, just a label got printed and that was it. They actually stepped up though and owned the mistake, refunded my shipping, and sent everything out again. The cookies arrived and are fantastic. They clearly value their customers and aren't afraid to admit when something goes wrong. I'd suggest checking them out.
