Sorted by: Most recentGot this bag on sale last year for around $675 and it fell apart immediately. The first time I used it, it picked up tons of dirt from the black conveyor belts at the airport. On the second trip the whole thing got destroyed and split open. This luggage simply isn't tough enough for checked baggage. The airline said nothing unusual occurred, just normal handling on the belt system. I sent Hartmann a bunch of detailed photos and they blamed the airline, offering only a 50% discount on a new bag as their solution. Absolutely terrible. I've had a Tumi check-in bag for 12 years that travels around the world a dozen plus times yearly and has only needed a buckle repair. Hartmann's Tweed line is garbage and won't survive airline baggage handling. They look fine until you actually travel with them, then they get filthy and destroyed without any problem. Don't bother. What really gets me is that Hartmann, owned by Samsonite no less, won't step up with a real solution. The customer service rep treats that measly discount like you should be thrilled about it. This is the fifth Hartmann bag we've owned and frankly I'm done. They don't back their products.
Picked up a Century Deluxe Extended Journey Spinner while traveling through the States because my Samsonite bag of over a decade finally gave up. The store associate at the department store pushed me toward this model, saying it was their premium option. I flew from Chicago to Arizona with it, and by the time I got there the luggage looked beaten up and scratched as if it had been through years of travel abuse. Really let down. The handle also doesn't glide smoothly like it should. I should've just gone with a replacement Samsonite like I originally planned. Wish I could return it for a refund, but I'm back in Europe now and don't see that happening.
Purchased a bag from their official website when I was visiting the US. A few months later the handle snapped, and even though I'm located across the Atlantic, they handled the whole thing perfectly through warranty. They arranged for pickup, fixed it, and shipped it back. We've bought multiple Hartmann bags over the years and this is the kind of service we've come to count on. Excellent work!
The hardcase lite collection is nice, but the warranty coverage is really disappointing. They advertise lifetime warranty, yet if you show up at the shop without your receipt, they refuse to help, even though they claimed it's covered for life. I dealt with the repair service at one location and got a dismissive, unhelpful response. Hartmann is owned by Samsonite, by the way. I have two bags from their top series and both had issues with hinges and locks. Both times it was quicker and cheaper to just buy replacement parts online and fix them myself than deal with their warranty process.
