Once I called to get them stopped, they did cancel but no refund or store credit appeared. When I followed up about it, I didn't hear back. Their auto renewal system seems designed to rip people off and make money.
Never got my magazines and had to report the charges as fraudulent with my credit card company just to get the money back.
I was promised I'd get a notification before my People subscription renewed. That never showed up. I checked everything and no notification arrived. I think that's how they operate, luring you in with a bargain then surprise charging you at renewal. The cancellation process is a pain with tons of menu options and voice prompts. Finally reached a person and she was calling from some facility overseas. She said the subscription got cancelled and a refund was issued, but we'll see.
The technology is incredibly slow. Feels sketchy, maybe worse. Processing payments takes forever and canceling subscriptions is a nightmare.
