What Shoppers Say About Stark Bro’s Nurseries & Orchards Co.
Stark Bros receives polarized feedback, with shoppers sharply divided between very satisfied and deeply frustrated customers. Those giving five stars praise quick customer service responses, careful handling, and hassle-free warranty replacements that honor the company's guarantees. However, the majority of reviewers report serious operational problems: plants arrive in poor condition with high mortality rates, delivery dates are repeatedly pushed back or changed without clear communication, and warranty claims face obstacles including claims of out-of-stock replacement items. Long-time customers particularly note a decline in service quality, with some experiencing order cancellations without explanation over months and others receiving only automated responses to warranty inquiries.
Shipping and inventory management emerge as the most consistent pain points across negative reviews. Customers report waiting weeks beyond promised delivery dates, inconsistent communication about when orders will ship, and difficulty reaching helpful customer service when issues occur. The contrast between the positive and negative experiences suggests that while Stark Bros can deliver good results when things go smoothly, operational failures and unresponsive customer service during problems are driving most of the dissatisfaction.

Sorted by: Most recentReally disappointed with my experience. I ordered strawberry plants that were supposed to arrive for spring and I'm almost two months late at this point. Updates about delays have been few and far between, and the communication in general has just been poor. I wish I'd canceled when I had the chance so I could've ordered from someone else and actually gotten my plants in the ground during the right season.
Really let down by this company. I ordered strawberry plants for spring delivery and I'm nearly two months behind schedule at this point. The delay notifications came sporadically at best, and honestly the overall communication has been terrible. I should have canceled early on and ordered elsewhere so I could actually plant during spring season.
Ordering from them the second time around, and it's been similar to the first time. Prepare to sit tight for nine or ten days for shipping. Your plants will probably show up completely dried out and unusable, and replacement offers come back at around half your original cost. I attempted to use their live chat to resolve it with a real person, but instead they directed me to submit a form and said someone would reply via email in 24 hours. If I'm being honest, find a different nursery. Save yourself the headache. HOWEVER: Their customer service actually reached out afterward with an offer I couldn't refuse. They're genuinely working hard to make this right. I'm changing my rating to 5 stars because they really delivered on their promise to fix things. Thanks for turning it around, Stark!
This is my second go-round ordering from them, and honestly it's been rough both times. The shipping takes forever, usually nine to ten days, and when the plants arrive they're basically desiccated and useless. When you complain, they'll replace them but for about half the price you actually paid. I tried using their live chat to talk to someone directly, but instead they just funneled me toward submitting a support ticket and told me they'd email back in a day. My recommendation is to shop elsewhere. However, after leaving this review, their customer service team actually reached out and made things right in a big way. They really went to bat to fix the situation. I'm upgrading my rating from 1 star to 5 because they proved they actually care about making customers happy. Impressive turnaround from Stark!
After living here for more than four decades, I can honestly say Stark Brothers is the finest nursery operation I've ever worked with. I've been in the restaurant business for over two decades and I don't usually take time for reviews, but this company earned it. You can trust them completely. They're responsive, kind, and generous with their customers. Everything they sell is guaranteed to grow and it's always high quality stock. I got a peach tree from them recently that's absolutely covered in buds and I expect to harvest fruit very soon. I'm planning to order a pink apple tree from them next and I'm confident they'll have it available. I'm that satisfied with the service. Wishing them continued success and prosperity.
I've lived in America for over 40 years and I have to say this nursery is hands down the best I've ever dealt with. I manage a restaurant and I typically don't write reviews, but Stark Brothers deserves recognition. These folks are genuinely amazing, responsive, friendly, and generous. They only sell plants that will actually thrive and everything is top quality. I purchased a peach tree that already has buds everywhere, and I'm hoping for fruit soon. I also asked them about a pink apple tree for next week and I'm confident they'll find it for me. That's how happy I am with this company. May they continue to succeed and prosper.
Got a Dwarf Everbearing Black Mulberry Tree and it showed up right on schedule in early May via FedEx. The box sat in the hot Florida sun so it was scorching, but I soaked the 4-foot tall bare tree for a full day before planting. I filled a 25-gallon container with Kellogs Above Ground Gardening Soil (took two bags) and used the shipping pot as a template to dig the perfect hole. The root system looked well-developed so I loosened it gently and positioned the tree in its new home. The buds started opening the very next day, with little green shoots appearing. By day three, tiny branches were forming. I trimmed the top foot off with my rose pruners to help lateral growth, and honestly, this tree is amazing. I'm leaving the lower buds alone to let it develop naturally into either a bush or dwarf form. Really impressed with Stark Bros!
I've bought trees from StarkBro multiple times and I keep coming back. Most of what they sell are bare root stock, but the plants are bigger than expected. Once they leaf out, they really take off with growth, especially by the next spring after planting. I had a couple trees that didn't survive, but they sent replacements at the following planting season with no argument. I'm hooked on StarkBro because the pricing is reasonable and they offer free shipping once you hit that $125 threshold.
