What Shoppers Say About Corel
Corel's ratings are sharply divided, with the vast majority of recent reviews expressing serious frustration. The primary complaints center on account and activation issues, particularly with PaintShop Pro products: customers report being locked out of software they purchased, unable to reinstall due to missing purchase records or non-functioning activation codes, and facing pressure to repurchase. Additional complaints include software bugs (such as files saving to unexpected folders) and inadequate customer support that fails to address technical problems. A small minority of reviewers praise Corel's software itself, with at least one long-term CorelDraw user reporting satisfaction with the product quality and frequent updates.
The disconnect between product satisfaction and company experience is notable. While some shoppers genuinely like the capabilities of Corel's design software, the account management system, activation process, and customer service responses emerge as significant pain points that overshadow positive features. Reinstallation and reactivation of legitimately purchased software appear to be particularly problematic, leaving customers feeling trapped between abandoning the software or paying again.

Sorted by: Most recentCorel locked me out of Paint Shop Pro 9. I still have the program, the serial number, and activation code but Corel removed it from my account. I can't reinstall it on my new computer because the activation code doesn't work anymore. Seems like Corel wants me to buy a new version instead, but I really liked PSP9. I've reached out to them but they refuse to help with older versions.
I bought PaintShop Pro Ultimate 2019 from Corel and when I needed to reinstall it I went to check my account and my purchases were gone. You can't get a physical disc so you have to download it. The fact that my information disappeared means I probably have to buy it again, which means switching to a different company. Their response to my complaint was to actually remove my purchases from my account and suggest I buy something new. I bet that will eventually vanish too so I'm forced to repurchase again. This company has no integrity. Steer clear.
I'm not sure where all the complaints are coming from. I got CorelDraw and the software is fantastic. Really satisfied with it. Been using it for over 6 years now and I buy new updates annually. Five stars.
I picked up a copy of Corel Paintshop and it simply doesn't work. Total waste of my money. The instruction videos don't match what's actually on the screen, so they're basically useless. Their support team seems trained to avoid the real issue because it's obvious they have no clue how to help with this product and they know full well it's broken. Corel took my cash and straight up conned me.
I bought the full upgraded version of Corel Painter and now I can't reinstall or activate it. The company website says I'll own it forever, but that's not what's happening. They're pushing me to pay for upgrades even though this version works fine for what I need. I like the software itself but I'm upset that my lifetime purchase is now locked out. I've filed a complaint with Canadian authorities about this.
Incredibly bad customer service. I've been loyal to PaintShop Pro since version 3 and never dealt with anything like this. PaintShop Pro 2023 is saving files to random folders instead of where I opened them from, and it's not even consistent. I end up having to search my computer to find where the file ended up. I have to use Save As every single time to make sure it goes back to the original location. The Save function is broken. No other program works like this. Corel's chat and phone support is basically nonexistent. Everything goes through email and I'm pretty sure it's automated because it ignores what I'm actually saying and what troubleshooting steps I've already tried. Time to find different software.
Their customer service is absolutely terrible. We have Corel on 4 different computers. Two upgraded to the 2022 version fine, but the other two somehow got switched to a cloud subscription instead. I've been trying to get this sorted for almost 2 years and they keep refusing to fix it. Now I'm stuck paying for a yearly subscription for software I didn't order. Last week was my busiest time of year and I was down all day, but they wouldn't connect me with anyone who could actually help or even spoke English properly. They claim it got escalated but won't tell me when they'll follow up. The support agent wouldn't even commit to calling back this week or month. I can't recommend them. I'm looking at other options now. Maybe spending more on Adobe would be worth it just so my whole business doesn't get held hostage while they play games, drop my calls, shut down tickets, and keep me on endless holds.
I just read another review from April 2024 and I completely agree with everything they said. I bought CorelDraw Suite and paid for it, then suddenly got error code 126. Like that other person, I'm 64 and have only used Corel for designing materials for volunteer groups and events I help with. I couldn't fix it myself so I called Corel. A rep named Herve told me my version isn't supported anymore and sent a link to uninstall and reinstall it. I did that and then was told I'd exceeded my license limit. After calling back they fixed that but the error message still shows up and I can't use Corel anymore. At this stage in my life, money is tight. Everything costs too much and I'm on a fixed income. I can't afford the higher tier they were pushing me toward. When I called customer service and explained that I paid in good faith for software they no longer support, a rep named Bryan said their technical support team is still training on newer technology so they couldn't help. It's frustrating knowing I spent money on software they've abandoned.
Downloaded their video editing software for a test drive and immediately noticed at least 4 random shortcuts scattered across my desktop after I installed it. Plus, why do they require you to create a website account just to try out their free trial? Come on Corel, it's 2024. Time to modernize.
I've spent 25 years working with CorelDraw on Windows and I learned long ago not to bother with Corel tech support since they only know what's in the manual anyway. That's why I've always just figured things out on my own. However, when Apple ditched bootcamp support, I had to switch to MacOS and ran into serious issues with Quickcorrect, the program kept crashing and displaying Chinese characters that I couldn't get rid of. I contacted support and while Ameer Aukloo made an effort, it went nowhere like usual. Then Kenneth D'sa took over my case. He was genuinely thorough, we communicated back and forth several times, and he actually fixed the problem. Plus he answered questions I'd been stuck on for the entire 25 years I've been using the software. Really grateful for Kenneth D'sa's help.
