What Shoppers Say About Champion Energy
Champion Energy has a sharply divided customer base, with ratings heavily skewed toward either very positive or very negative experiences. Satisfied long-term customers report stable service over multiple years without issues. However, the majority of reviewers report serious billing problems, including being charged rates higher than quoted, overcharges compared to actual meter usage, and confusing or unexplained charges. Several customers describe their experiences as scams and warn others to avoid the company. Customer service has also been criticized for inability to explain charges or clarify billing terms.
The polarized review distribution (67 percent one-star and 27 percent five-star ratings) suggests that customer experience may depend heavily on individual circumstances, though billing accuracy and rate transparency emerge as consistent pain points in negative reviews.

Sorted by: Most recentThis is the most ridiculous situation I've ever dealt with and I'm telling everyone to avoid this company.
Stay away from Champion Energy if you can. My experience was absolutely terrible. They quoted me one rate but then started billing me way more than we agreed on. I contacted several other providers who checked my actual meter data and confirmed I was definitely being overcharged for my real usage. Trying to get this sorted out has been incredibly frustrating. You can't reach anyone by phone, and when I finally got through to someone, they wouldn't explain anything about my account or take my complaint seriously. Now that I'm trying to switch to another company, they're making the process as hard as possible. It feels like they're intentionally keeping me locked into something I never consented to. This is a total scam with pathetic customer service. I seriously regret not looking at more reviews before signing up. Find a different energy company.
Don't pay attention to the bad reviews! These are actually about a totally different Champion Energy that operates in Great Britain, not the same company at all. I checked it out and it's completely separate. The Champion Energy Services based here in Houston, Texas is the one I've worked with for four years now and have had nothing but great experiences. This Texas company has always been upfront and honest with my family about everything. Sure, the bills get pricey during hot Texas summers and freezing winters, but I have to give them credit because my power stayed on even when tons of people around us lost service during ice storms in the Dallas area. Some neighbors didn't have electricity for one to two weeks, but we never lost ours. They also keep customers informed with quick alerts about weather and power issues from the local grid. Their SmartTrack emails are really useful too, showing you when and at what temperatures you're using the most power. I'm satisfied being their customer.
This is a scam operation. They've conned loads of local businesses. Stay away from them no matter what.
Been with them for two years now and moving into my third year without any problems whatsoever.
Champion Energy in Texas - Their customer service can't explain what charges mean or how that 5 dollar anniversary credit actually works. I applied the 5 dollars to my bill but the next statement still showed I could apply it, which apparently means something different. The representative couldn't clarify any of this and somehow claimed I owed more than what my actual bill was. I wasted a bunch of time and then canceled when my contract ended. Plus their rates per kilowatt hour are higher compared to what other energy companies are charging.
Incompetent from day one. They started pulling money from my account through direct debit before they even officially took over my service. They way overestimated what I would use. They said they would bill me based on actual monthly usage but never did. Getting them to respond to emails is impossible and calling just leads to a dead line. Total waste of time. Not worth it. Steer clear.
They put us retired folks on higher rates with a long-term contract we didn't even know we were getting into. When we asked them to fix it, they refused to do anything about it.
Unbelievable incompetence. Our meter setup got damaged during the recent ice storm, and we had to shut off service so an electrician could fix it. The repair company showed up fast and helped out. After finishing, they just needed Champion to give them a work order so they could restore our meter and power. They told us they'd be back within an hour once they got approval from Champion. But Champion wouldn't commit to anything. We told them what the repair company said, that they were ready to reconnect as soon Champion sent the order through. Champion just refused to send the simple work order. We've been without heat for almost a full day now. Our house is 48 degrees and Champion won't help at all. They just keep repeating that they can't promise when power will come back. We never asked for promises or specific times, we just asked them to send the order to the repair company so we could handle the timing with them. Why won't they just do it? I've never been this frustrated with anyone.
This company uses shady tactics to trick people into signing up. The sales rep flat out lied to get me to commit. They draw people in with gift card incentives in stores without explaining that you're actually locking into a lengthy contract with big fees if you want to cancel. I didn't even get any paperwork when I signed, just did it on a tablet. Later they sent me a recording of our conversation that was clearly edited and missing parts. This is a company to avoid.
