What Shoppers Say About ecobee
Ecobee products receive overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 18 reviews averaging 1.4 out of 5. The most consistent complaint centers on customer support, which reviewers describe as difficult to reach, unhelpful, and sometimes dismissive. Beyond support issues, shoppers report significant technical problems including inaccurate temperature and humidity readings, motion sensors that fail to function properly, malfunctioning remote controls via smartphone apps, and incompatibility with older homes. Several reviewers note the thermostat hardware itself works adequately in isolation, but the combination of technical defects, poor app functionality, and nearly inaccessible customer support creates a frustrating overall experience that leads many to abandon the product entirely.
A small percentage of reviewers (11 percent) rate Ecobee more favorably, suggesting the products may work better in certain circumstances, particularly in newer homes. However, the stark disparity between positive and negative feedback indicates systemic problems with product reliability and company responsiveness. Multiple reviewers report attempting to return multiple items purchased from Ecobee, citing unresolved technical issues and the company's apparent unwillingness or inability to provide adequate support. For consumers considering this brand, the reviews suggest exploring alternatives unless your home is newly constructed and you are prepared for potentially difficult interactions with the company.

Sorted by: Most recentSkip this unless you have a brand new house. Half the support team couldn't even tell the difference between a reflection and something actually blocking a port. These thermostats only work in new homes. My house from the 60s wouldn't cooperate even with the extended version. Not worth the hassle when I can just stick with my old programmable thermostat.
The actual thermostat works okay, but their customer support is legitimately some of the worst I've ever dealt with. You can barely get anyone on the line, and when you do, they're not much help. And that's saying something given how bad customer service generally is.
Can't use my phone to turn the unit on, off, or change any settings. You'd think for the extra money you pay, the remote controls would actually work, but nope. Super inconvenient.
Making updates through this app is frustrating and painful. Getting customer service help is even worse - they straight up tell you they don't have time for you and hang up. Really disappointing experience overall.
This is hands down one of the worst products I've ever bought. Temperature readings are off by 4 or 5 degrees consistently, the humidity sensor is nowhere near accurate, and the motion sensors on the remote units barely work. The system logic is also broken - I've had the AC kick on when it was 10 degrees outside. Ecobee support confirmed my installation was correct, which just makes it worse because it means the product itself is the problem. It's almost insulting how poorly this performs. The thermostat has even been pulled from major retailers, so I'm leaving this review in its place.
Nothing good to say about Ecobee. Their instructions are barely helpful and the customer support is nonexistent. We bought seven items from them including multiple thermostats, sensors, and cameras, and we're sending all of it back. If they spent any time on customer service, they might keep more customers. As it stands, they're looking at nothing but returns from us.
This was a nightmare in a rental unit. The tenants never logged into the app, and when I tried to use it three years later, it was basically broken. Opening it triggers pop-ups about old energy alerts from years back. I have to tap OK repeatedly but can't get past them all to actually adjust the temperature. I've tried uninstalling, clearing cache, everything - nothing works. The support contact form on their website is even broken with a non-responsive close button. I'm replacing this with a different brand. Not worth the aggravation.
This thing is completely unreliable. Worst purchase I've made in a long time.
Support here is terrible. They pushed me to buy an upgraded thermostat since my original one couldn't connect to wifi and wasn't being fixed. The new unit I purchased needs major electrical work to install. Skip this company and save yourself money and headaches. When I tried returning it, they refused even though I wanted to send it back. Don't waste your time with these people.
