What Shoppers Say About Fleet Farm
Fleet Farm is rated 1.4 out of 5 by 10 shoppers, with the vast majority of reviews citing serious customer service and policy issues. Recurring complaints include refusal to accept cash payments, unwillingness to cover return shipping fees or process returns for defective items, staff billing for unrequested services and becoming aggressive when challenged, and perceived lack of customer appreciation despite high spending. One positive reviewer praised product quality and noted staff who went above and beyond to locate an out-of-stock item.
The overwhelmingly negative feedback suggests systemic problems with how the store handles customer disputes and returns. Shoppers report that management showed little interest in resolving complaints, and that policies around payment methods and return procedures created frustration. The single five-star review indicates that when staff members engage positively and demonstrate product knowledge, customers notice and appreciate it, suggesting that service quality varies significantly by individual employee or location.

Sorted by: Most recentI received the wrong item and when I tried to return it, a staff member insisted the mistake was on my end and refused to cover the nine dollar return shipping fee. That's a small amount to pay for keeping a good relationship with customers.
The store wouldn't accept cash and claimed it was their new policy. That's just wrong. No way I'm going back there.
The staff claimed they performed some work I never requested and then got aggressive when I refused to pay for it. I asked an employee to have the store manager call me, and he showed zero interest in resolving anything. That was hands down the worst customer service I've experienced anywhere. I won't be shopping there anymore.
I'll never purchase major equipment from this store again. I bought a new lawn mower and the very next day, after reading through the manual, I filled it with fuel and tried it out. As soon as I engaged the mower deck, it shook and vibrated terribly. It only had about five minutes of run time and had never actually been used. Fleet Farm refused to take it back, saying I shouldn't have added gas to test it and sent me to a repair contractor they use for warranty claims. That contractor was so backed up they couldn't even accept it for a month. I was stuck with a brand new mower I couldn't use. So I drove it back to Fleet Farm without asking permission, left my keys and manual at the counter, and told them I was disputing the charge on my credit card. The customer service person just said okay and that was it. Now they're holding my tractor and my money while I pursue a chargeback with my credit card company. Not one person from Fleet Farm has reached out to follow up or fix this.
My family spends thousands annually on feed and supplies at this store. We just spent over a hundred bucks and three hours later got a text with a 10% coupon. I went in hoping they'd show some appreciation, maybe knock five bucks off or something. Nothing. They wanted me to haul back several hundred pounds of corn and birdseed to repurchase it instead of adjusting the receipt. When I called corporate, they gave me the same useless response. I was tempted to just drive up to the loading dock and have them unload everything so I could return it elsewhere. Well, now I'm taking my business to another farm and fleet store. So much for that business.
The products are great and so are the staff. I stopped by looking for a Milwaukee drill that was on sale, but the shelf was empty. I asked an associate when it would be back in stock, and he went above and beyond by checking the system and actually tracking one down for me. Fleet Farm employees have always treated me well and actually know their stuff. It's a solid place to shop for quality gear.
This place is really going downhill. Don't go to the West Bend location after 3pm. The automotive department is staffed with young people who clearly don't know what they're doing. One guy was extremely dirty and unprofessional, and another seemed out of it and completely disoriented. I've shopped there for years without issues until recently. Where did they find these people? Other departments manage to hire quality staff who actually know how to help customers and stay polite. It's night and day compared to daytime shopping. I worry about where society's headed if this is what we're working with.
This is a detailed account for anyone thinking about buying a firearm here. I'm a senior woman who first went to another big box store with a family member to purchase my first gun. That store accused me of being a straw buyer trying to get a gun for the older gentleman with me and denied my purchase with zero explanation. Friends told me it was just their store policy, so I figured I'd try Fleet Farm. I went alone this time and was completely honest with the sales associate about what happened at the other store since I wanted to be upfront and not waste anyone's time if they'd just deny me too. They said no problem, that was just the other store's policy. At first they seemed fine with it, then said there was a delay and they'd call me back. When they did call, they denied me because someone matching my description had tried to buy a gun for someone else at that other store. That really bothered me.
My experience started poorly right from the beginning when I called to schedule an oil change appointment. A recording answered and I left my information, but then waited over 3 hours without hearing back. So I drove to the service center in person to book it instead. The bays looked completely empty while at least 5 staff members stood around the counter area. I got my appointment set up and came back the next day. What should have been a quick oil change turned into a 2 hour ordeal. When I finally checked, my vehicle was done sitting outside. I noticed they called out customers who arrived after me and got their oil changes finished way faster. When I asked for help leaving, only then did someone actually assist me. As if that wasn't enough, 6 hours later my phone rang with them asking if I wanted to schedule that oil change appointment. Hard to take seriously at that point, so I'm definitely not returning.
Their rewards program doesn't work. We came in to use a five dollar reward and the cashier not only ignored me when I told him about it but was incredibly rude when I pointed it out. We used to drop a couple hundred a month in the local store but we're finished now. The lack of basic competence and customer service is unacceptable. You can't even email the store because their address doesn't work. What a waste.
