Hickory Farms Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Hickory Farms
Hickory Farms receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 18 reviews averaging 1.3 out of 5. The most consistent complaint centers on deceptive packaging: reviewers describe gift boxes and products that appear full but contain excessive cardboard filler and minimal actual product, with individual items like cheese slices and crackers taking up only a fraction of their packaging space. Several shoppers report that the quality does not justify the price, noting they could purchase superior meat and cheese from their local grocery store deli for less money. Texture changes in sausage products and mushy consistency issues are also mentioned. Beyond product concerns, customers report serious service failures including double charges that result in order cancellations, and inaccessible customer service with all calls routing to voicemail, making it impossible to resolve shipping address errors or other issues.
The rare three-star review acknowledges that flavor is adequate but notes significant quality degradation compared to prior years, particularly in product texture and appearance. No shoppers recommend this retailer based on the available reviews. The combination of misleading packaging practices, poor product quality relative to pricing, billing errors, and unresponsive customer support has resulted in almost exclusively negative experiences.

Sorted by: Most recentCut into the turkey sausage today and immediately noticed it's totally different from what I got last year. Instead of looking like actual sausage, it's got this pate-like compressed meat appearance going on. The flavor is pretty close to how I remember it, but the texture is way softer and feels mushy. Haven't opened the ham or beef stick yet but I'm honestly nervous about what I'll find. The cheese balls were still pretty tasty though.
It's technically edible but honestly it's just not good. You'd get way better quality and better prices buying half a pound of meat and cheese from your local grocery store deli. The packaging is super deceiving with a thick looking box but the cheese inside is only about a quarter inch thick while there's like an inch or two of empty space behind it. The mustard they threw in is okay but you could get better at any store. I used to think Hickory Farms was like a semi-fancy brand or at least better quality, but I'd rather eat old fast food from the trash. The cheese portion was tiny and tasted absolutely terrible. The summer sausage is below average even for summer sausage, but with the mustard it was the only part that was acceptable. I said edible meaning safe to eat, but it's not worth the effort to actually consume. I hate throwing away food but this is one of the rare times I had to toss most of it out. Now I know Hickory Farms as a trash brand, not even budget friendly. Around twenty bucks for a charcuterie thing that any restaurant could beat and you still get less food. Just the amount of air gaps alone should probably be illegal.
You'd expect better crackers for the price you're paying on the whole box, but instead it's mostly air with hardly any actual product. Really disappointed with how they cheaped out on this one.
This gift box was a huge letdown and honestly feels like a scam. The box is packed with so much cardboard filler that I threw away probably 80% of what was inside. I didn't pay money just for packing material. The actual products come in these teeny boxes that are mostly empty themselves. The whole thing only looks full because it's sealed up before you buy it, so you can't see all the wasted space. Total waste of my money. I bought filler, not a gift. It's clear they use all that extra padding to make the package seem bigger than it actually is. Really upset about this and won't be ordering from Hickory Farms ever again.
My credit card got charged twice. I called them to fix it and they basically said they had no clue why it happened, so they'd just cancel my order. Happy holidays I guess.
You can't reach customer service because everything just goes to voicemail. That's not okay when you need to talk to an actual person about fixing your shipping address that somehow got set to the sender's address by default.
Ordered four pounds of king crab legs for Mother's Day and they arrived a week late. The cooler wasn't sealed and the legs were sitting in warm water. Everything smelled terrible. No clue how long they'd been sitting out unrefrigerated or if they were spoiled. I threw the whole thing out. Company wouldn't respond to my emails and I couldn't get anyone on the phone. I'm disputing the charge with my credit card. Don't buy from here, seriously stay away!
The stuff in these baskets are just small samples, not the full sized items. I spent fifty bucks on these baskets and when they showed up I was totally embarrassed. The products taste fine but they're nowhere near worth the price I paid for such tiny portions.
This is a total rip off! More than half of what you're paying for in these so called gift sets is just packing material, not actual meat and cheese!
