Honey Baked Ham Co. Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Honey Baked Ham Co.
Honey Baked Ham Co. receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 14 reviews averaging 1.3 out of 5. The most consistent complaints center on product quality issues, including hams that are excessively fatty, undersized, or not meeting expectations for the premium prices charged (often exceeding $90 to $100 per ham). Customers also report frustrating service experiences such as missing receipts, rewards numbers not being properly recorded, unexplained service interruptions during peak seasons, and insufficient communication about store policies or limitations. Several reviewers expressed particular disappointment with the company's handling of special occasion orders and refusal to resolve problems with incomplete shipments.
While a small minority of shoppers mention positive staff interactions (one reviewer praised an employee named Domenica for making them feel welcome), these isolated bright spots are far outweighed by complaints about inconsistent quality, poor communication, and unresponsive customer service. Multiple reviews reference long-standing customer relationships that have deteriorated due to recent experiences, suggesting the company may have experienced a decline in standards. The vast majority of reviewers do not recommend the store, particularly given that alternative retailers like Walmart are cited as offering comparable or better products at lower prices.

Sorted by: Most recentDuring off-season, this place just isn't the same. My husband and I were in the area doing some business in late February and decided to give them another try. Domenica was absolutely wonderful and made us feel welcome. We bought what the receipt showed as one half ham, 1 pound, for $96.54. Back home, my husband went to cut it up and found the outside was incredibly tough with zero honey flavor anywhere. I figured it was just bad luck and moved on. When my husband contacted them on a Tuesday to mention the quality issue, they seemed pretty dismissive. They said to bring in the receipt for an adjustment, but it felt like no big deal to them. I can't recommend the Upland location unless you're buying specifically for Thanksgiving.
I made a purchase at the store but never got a receipt. The cashier had tossed it in the trash, though she did pull it out when I asked. The problem is my rewards number wasn't printed on it and I didn't notice until I was already gone. I'm pretty sure that was done on purpose. I called customer service and spoke with someone who tried to help but couldn't figure it out. Then I called the local store and talked with another representative who said she'd look into it and get back to me. I never heard from her. This is poor business handling. You've lost my business.
Picked up our ham at the Pickerington, Ohio location on Hill Road and it was by far the worst one we've ever bought. One entire end was nothing but pure fat. One hundred dollars down the drain for a fatty ham. I could've gone to Walmart and gotten better quality. Super upset about this, especially since we had family over who were just as disappointed. What a letdown.
I drove specifically to the Marlton location hoping to grab lunch. When I arrived, the staff said they weren't making sandwiches until after Christmas because they were swamped with holiday orders. That's a whole week without their main food service. So I wasted gas and time, had to find lunch somewhere else, and got zero warning about this anywhere online, on Google Maps, or through any kind of phone alert. The reality is Honey Baked shut down a major part of their business during their busiest season. Real companies hire more staff and handle the volume. They just decided to turn customers away and lose revenue. I called corporate to complain. Got nowhere. No solutions offered. Just excuses about heavy holiday demand and how corporate doesn't manage individual stores. I spent money here before on holiday hams, but between shutting down services and corporate's total lack of concern, I'm done.
This company broke my heart by refusing to help my mother get a special meal for what could be her final Thanksgiving. My mom is dealing with cancer and was turning 74 on Thanksgiving Day. Because of her illness, she couldn't cook, so I ordered a complete honey baked ham dinner with all the sides and desserts to be shipped to her. Only part of the order showed up - just a cake and some side dishes. When I called customer service, they basically said there was nothing they could do. Even though there's a store only 20 minutes from her house, they wouldn't make any effort to get a ham to a sick woman's table for such an important day. I'm devastated by how callous they were. Our family has bought from Honey Baked for decades during the holidays, but after this? Not anymore. I will never spend another dollar there.
I ordered a bone-in quarter ham for Mother's Day and drove an hour and a half to Sacramento to pick it up. We arrived early, shortly after opening, and we were actually the only customers there at the time, which is unusual because they're typically packed with long lines on major holidays. We've been buying Honey Baked Hams from different locations for more than 40 years and always loved them. When we opened it up on Mother's Day to heat and serve, we were stunned. The ham looked completely burnt. The glaze had cracked and peeled off everywhere, sitting at the bottom of the foil wrapping. The meat was as dry as it appeared. This was really disappointing because we expected so much better. We don't plan on ordering for future holidays like we used to. I also noticed another recent review with nearly identical photos of a similarly burnt, dry ham. Apparently this problem hasn't been fixed yet.
My husband and I visited the Honeybaked Ham location in Tolleson, Arizona. We'd shopped there before and loved it. This time we ordered sandwiches and a ham bone like we usually do. When one was dropped on the counter and it looked too small, we asked for a larger one. The employee just dropped another one down without much care. The only friendly person was the cashier. They only made one sandwich at first, which I had to point out so they'd make the second one. There were no indoor seating options, so we had to sit outside. The sandwich wasn't warm like it should have been. That ham bone came in at 4.75 pounds, but it was loaded with fat. After cutting away all the bone and fat, I barely had a pound of actual meat. Left feeling really let down and won't be going back.
Honestly disappointed with my first Honey Baked Ham purchase. My husband and I picked one up for Thanksgiving dinner with our son and his family, and it really didn't live up to the hype. The flavor was lackluster and there wasn't nearly enough honey taste. For nearly $84, it wasn't worth it at all. The only silver lining was that having the meal ready meant I could spend time playing with my grandkids instead of being stuck in the kitchen.
Terrible experience. I placed an order for 8 sandwiches with Door Dash delivery scheduled for Saturday. Thirty minutes after the delivery was supposed to arrive, they cancelled the whole order. I'm done with Honey Baked Ham and won't be ordering from them ever again.
I had an awful experience at my local Honey Baked store around the holidays and they've lost me as a customer for good. I've bought a Christmas ham from there every single year for over ten years. This year I went in and asked if I could split my payment between two cards since my checking account only had $20 left and I wanted to put the rest on a $50 gift card that wasn't enough to cover the whole thing either. The cashier said upfront that would be no problem. Then she charged $65 to my bank account, which caused an overdraft immediately. I asked to speak with a manager, and she was defensive and rude right from the start. She completely ignored what happened and wouldn't try to fix it. Instead she kept saying loudly in front of everyone, "What do you want me to do, pay for it yourself?" It was humiliating. There was no apology for the cashier's mistake. Nobody offered any discount to make it right. Nobody even attempted to solve the problem. The manager was cold and stubborn, acting like I should just leave and deal with it on my own. She made it seem like I was the one who caused the problem and treated me that way in front of the whole store.
