I've bought multiple purses from them before and usually had good experiences. Recently I spotted a purse I liked and decided to wait for a sale. Once it got a deep discount, I placed an order. What arrived was a tiny box containing only a pair of silver hoop earrings. No purse, no receipt, nothing else. It felt like I was being pranked. The discount was so aggressive that it showed non-returnable. How convenient for them, right? Their customer service is a nightmare and they'll string you along while your money disappears.

Madewell's online experience is pretty rough. The shipping takes forever and their communication is spotty at best. I ordered a handbag in late November and paid with my card. I didn't hear anything until I reached out myself asking where it was, and that's when they told me the bag was out of stock. New delivery estimate was January 23rd. Finally got a delivery recently, but no bag showed up and nobody told me anything about what happened. This is not a great way to run an online business.

I'm really disappointed with how Madewell handles customer service. Purchased jeans over a year ago, and they only go by the calendar date, not the actual condition of the item. I sent pictures showing the jeans have almost no signs of wear, but there's a clean tear right along a seam near the back pocket. This clearly indicates a manufacturing flaw to me. I rotate these jeans with others and wash them infrequently in cold water, which usually lets my jeans last about a decade. None of that matters to Madewell apparently, which tells me they don't really stand behind what they make. They've definitely lost my business.

The clothing quality is solid, but the designs can feel kind of plain sometimes. It would be nice if they explored some more interesting and creative styles.
