What Shoppers Say About AARP
AARP is rated 1.0 out of 5 by 22 shoppers, with the vast majority of reviews citing severe customer service failures and organizational issues. Shoppers report unresponsive leadership, inability to reach support staff through multiple channels, disappeared website features without explanation or restoration, unfulfilled promises regarding partner benefit assistance, and continued unwanted communications after requesting removal. Additionally, members enrolled in AARP's prescription drug plan (Plan D) express frustration with excessive pre-authorization requirements, unclear medication cost information, and perceived automatic denials of coverage requests.
These complaints suggest systemic problems with responsiveness, transparency, and service delivery across multiple departments. Members who have long-term relationships with the organization report particular disappointment with the decline in service quality. Issues range from basic customer service responsiveness to complex healthcare administration, indicating concerns that span both operational and administrative functions.

Sorted by: Most recentMy mom had a really bad run-in with an agent who was incredibly rude. She bought life insurance for herself and my dad, but since my dad had a stroke and relies on my mom for insurance decisions, she explained she'd need to do the talking. The agent became hostile, insisting he wouldn't proceed unless he could speak directly to the policyholder. We ended up feeding my dad information to say on the call. When my mom stepped away briefly to get something and said she'd just be a moment, the agent lost it after about five seconds. He rudely said he couldn't wait longer than two minutes and threatened to hang up. We get that there are time limits, but his rudeness really got under our skin and he got an earful in return. It's disappointing that this organization allows agents to behave this way. They need to improve their standards.
We had a terrible experience with an agent who was rude and dismissive to my mom. She and my dad purchased life insurance through the company, and since my dad had a stroke and doesn't handle his own insurance matters, my mom explained she'd need to speak on his behalf. The agent got hostile, saying he wouldn't continue unless he could speak directly to the policy holder. We had to coach my dad through the call. When my mom asked to grab something and said she'd be right back, the agent flipped out after just five seconds, rudely announcing he couldn't wait more than two minutes and would hang up. We understand the time limits but the disrespectful tone set us off and we gave him an earful. This kind of behavior from agents shouldn't be allowed. The organization needs to do better with training and oversight.
This organization is pretty much useless. The gym discounts they tout don't actually help much, and worse yet, they're giving away your information to insurance companies without asking for your permission.
Honestly, this organization doesn't deliver. The gym discounts they advertise aren't helpful, and what's worse is they're selling your data to car insurance companies without getting your permission first.
I can't understand why anyone would align with an organization led by people who appear to want to destroy the country and harm its citizens. The younger generation will follow blindly without seeing the danger ahead. The leadership will have much to answer for.
I really have to question why anyone would deal with an organization run by folks who seem intent on harming the country and its people. Young folks will blindly follow down a dangerous path without realizing where it leads. These leaders will have a lot to answer for.
The promised discounts ended up being worthless. I got denied for a coupon and when I reached out for help, they couldn't assist and just pushed me toward their insurance partner instead. The membership perks turned out to be misleading and not worth my time. The partner company profits while seniors like me don't get what we were promised. These discounts actually cost me more in the end.
Not worth the money. They send way too much mail through the postal service and too many emails. I was a member for over two decades. The monthly bulletin that arrived in the mail was occasionally helpful, maybe. When I first joined, their promises about saving you money actually delivered. These days it's just marketing and junk. I'm throwing away mountains of promotional mail from them.
I'm not willing to support or contribute to any group that backs a particular political party or organization. I see this organization as being aligned with politics I disagree with. Please take me off all your mailing lists.
As a brand new member, I tried logging into my account to check out what benefits I'd get. For two solid days with multiple attempts, every password reset, every security code, the same thing kept happening. The system would email me saying my password changed successfully, then it wouldn't let me log in. I tried calling the support line that showed up, but their automated system kept pushing medical alert info at me and wouldn't connect me to a real person. This might be the worst online experience I've had anywhere. Honestly, I'm ready to pay my bank to block their charges next year or switch cards entirely just to avoid using this service again. I work in instructional design and I'm comfortable with technology, but I hit problem after problem with their system. I don't know how someone without computer skills would even manage. The AI kept asking me medical alert questions I never answered and then acted like I had. Honestly, I can't imagine how a senior who isn't tech-savvy would deal with this nightmare.
