AMSOIL Reviews
What Shoppers Say About AMSOIL
AMSOIL receives polarized reviews that split sharply between loyal enthusiasts and frustrated customers. Long-term users praise the product quality itself, reporting significant performance improvements in specialized applications like differential noise reduction and engine break-in. However, the majority of recent reviews cite serious service issues: customers report incorrect product recommendations from the website's lookup tool, unresponsive and dismissive customer service interactions, difficulty obtaining refunds or replacements, and high return shipping fees. One reviewer reported transmission problems after using AMSOIL CVT fluid, though this appears isolated.
The gap between product performance and customer service frustration is the defining characteristic of AMSOIL reviews. Shoppers who focus on product efficacy tend to rate highly, while those dealing with ordering errors or support issues describe the experience as a nightmare. Several reviewers explicitly recommend avoiding the company despite acknowledging the product's technical merits, citing poor treatment and cost as deciding factors.

Sorted by: Most recentWorst customer service I've ever experienced with a company. Look somewhere else for your oil needs. The only reason I went to them was because they bought another oil brand I liked, and the customer service difference is like night and day. That other brand treated me wonderfully, but Amsoil has been a nightmare. Their people don't know anything about what they're selling.
Their vehicle lookup filter picked the wrong oil filter for me twice. I sent an email to customer service and it got passed to their tech team, but they were useless - just asked a bunch of questions I'd already answered in my first email. They didn't offer to send me the right one, give me a credit, or even exchange it. They couldn't even bother to help me find the correct filter for my car. This is ridiculous. I'm not buying another oil filter from them since their website clearly can't be trusted to get the right product. Plus I already paid $20 for the preferred member program which turned out to be a complete waste.
Back in 2006, I tried every other gear oil on the market before switching to Amsoil - it was a total game changer. I had built a limited slip 8.8 differential for a 4th gen f-body, and the noise completely went away without needing to use any additive. I've also used Amsoil to break in 2 different engines now - a 498 big block Chevy and a 370 small block Chevy. One had 2 stages of nitrous, the other was turbocharged. I ran their dominator racing oil in both setups. For my daily driver truck I use their 0w20 and only change the oil once a year while driving between 30-50 thousand miles annually, only replacing the filter. They don't offer the big retailer discounts like cheaper brands, which is why you won't find them at Walmart or auto parts stores. Everyone pays the same price. Remember that oil is just a lubricant and won't stop engine parts from failing. If you've got bad lifters or worn transmission clutches like some other reviewers mentioned, oil won't fix that. It's just a lubricant. Their firearms oil and cleaner work incredibly well too. If you're trying to Band-Aid together an old junker, nothing's going to help but replacing parts. But if you have a newer vehicle and want to keep it running right, Amsoil is the only choice for me. I used Valvoline and Mobil 1 for years before switching.
Do yourself a favor and don't use this product in your vehicle. And don't expect good treatment from their email responses either - they're pretty dismissive and rude. Put your money somewhere else instead. Don't fall for those YouTube tests or the positive reviews you see online - a lot of them are paid for. Just stay away from this company altogether.
2007 Honda Civic Hybrid - Transmission Problems After switching my transmission fluid to AMSOIL CVT Fluid, my vehicle started having major problems right away. The transmission was slipping, making weird noises, and the whole car was shaking. I was really worried something bad would happen, so I drained it immediately and put genuine Honda CVT fluid back in. The issues stopped completely, which meant the AMSOIL product was definitely the problem. I picked this brand because they're known for good performance oils, so I'm really disappointed about how incompatible and poorly made this seems to be. This was a total waste of money and could've damaged my transmission permanently. One more thing - I noticed they won't even let you review the product on their site, which makes you wonder if all those good reviews are even real or just paid for.
This company just wants your cash. Their refund process is a joke. Every employee gives you the same scripted response. I've been a loyal buyer for 12 years, but they're losing me because of how much they charge to return products they shipped wrong. It's not right, so I'm switching to different brands on principle alone.
I bought their signature series 10w30 oil for my wife's car after their ads promised it would cut down on oil consumption. Her car normally burns about a quart every 2000 miles, but with Amsoil it went through 3 quarts in just 1300 miles! That's not happening again - I drained it right out and switched to another brand, and everything went back to normal. I also tried the same Amsoil signature series 10w30 in my Yukon 5.3 LS, and immediately the oil pan started leaking. Had to drain that too and put in a different oil. Both times were expensive mistakes that I'm not repeating.
I ordered several items from their website. I got an order confirmation and they charged my card, but then within 30 minutes they cancelled it saying there was some issue with processing. I've been trying to reach them about it but can't get anywhere. The order wasn't huge but it still feels wrong - they took my money and cancelled the order. I need them to fix this right away and give me my money back.
I've placed 4 separate orders online and every single time Amsoil has gotten my stuff exactly right. My orders show up in 2-3 days without fail. I really like their products and have switched all 4 of my vehicles over to using Amsoil oils.
Amsoil was running a deal where spending a certain amount got you two free bottles of their Quickshot, which was perfect since I needed it anyway. I placed my order, selected the promotional offer in the box, added more items to my cart until the promotion automatically switched to show two bottles, and submitted everything. When it arrived, no Quickshot. I called and talked to someone really nice who said she'd verify with management and call back. She never did. The next day I spoke to another rep who claimed the first person was too busy and said she could help instead. I explained what happened, and she told me that per their policy she could only give me a few dollars in coupons to use on my next order. I told her I needed the actual Quickshot or this wasn't fair since I now have to pay shipping. She got really rude and when I tried explaining the issue, she just cut me off asking if there was anything else. I mentioned that I'd read about this happening to others during the same promotion, and she said she'd never heard of it and basically said it was my mistake, not theirs.
