AMSOIL Reviews
What Shoppers Say About AMSOIL
AMSOIL receives polarized reviews that split sharply between loyal enthusiasts and frustrated customers. Long-term users praise the product quality itself, reporting significant performance improvements in specialized applications like differential noise reduction and engine break-in. However, the majority of recent reviews cite serious service issues: customers report incorrect product recommendations from the website's lookup tool, unresponsive and dismissive customer service interactions, difficulty obtaining refunds or replacements, and high return shipping fees. One reviewer reported transmission problems after using AMSOIL CVT fluid, though this appears isolated.
The gap between product performance and customer service frustration is the defining characteristic of AMSOIL reviews. Shoppers who focus on product efficacy tend to rate highly, while those dealing with ordering errors or support issues describe the experience as a nightmare. Several reviewers explicitly recommend avoiding the company despite acknowledging the product's technical merits, citing poor treatment and cost as deciding factors.

Sorted by: Most recentThe actual product might be decent, but their customer service is awful. I ordered some oils and filters and they had a promotion running on another item. When my package arrived, that promotional product wasn't included. After sending 4 different emails, they finally told me I needed to call a manager, but when I did nobody was available to talk to me. They just asked me to leave my number for a callback. All they wanted to do was give me a gift card so I'd have to place another order to use it. The whole thing felt like a setup from the start. You can't trust what they say they'll do.
I've been buying Amsoil since 1983 and couldn't be more satisfied with both their products and how easy the buying process is. You just have to look at what Al Amatuzio built and what he passed along to Alan and his son. I'm not sure why some people are having trouble ordering - yeah, they're upgrading their website but it's for the better. Check out the Project Farm channel on YouTube for a totally independent review of their signature series 5W30.
I tried ordering from another high-end synthetic oil company and waited 9 days without any update. When I finally emailed their support, nothing happened. I called and it took another day or two before they refunded my money. The order never even processed or shipped in 10 days! Then I ordered from Amsoil.com and had my oil changed on two vehicles within 48 hours with free shipping. They have a full range of oils including a great 4-stroke option with high zinc and high HTHS ratings, perfect for my air cooled lawn equipment. I use a bunch of their different products across my personal vehicles, commercial vehicles, and equipment.
If you had a bad experience before, I'd really encourage you to give them another shot. They completely redesigned their website and now ordering is super straightforward. That being said, they're just like any other big manufacturer with tons of products - they have strict rules about their ingredients. If they can't get certain materials during tough times, they won't make it. They're not going to trash 50 years of making the best synthetic oil just to make a quick sale. I respect that they stick to their standards. Check out the Gale Banks videos on YouTube - Gale would never risk his reputation by recommending something that wasn't excellent. And to the people saying things have gone downhill since the founder passed away - I know Alan, Dan, and the other Dan personally. These are men with serious integrity. Alan Amatuzio carries on the same values as his father, but he's smarter about using modern technology to improve things.
I've never worked with a big company that made me feel like they actually cared about me and what I needed. You can tell it's still a family business at its core. I've been buying from Amsoil since 1983 and use it in my cars, off-road trucks, ATVs, tractors - basically anything I own. As a veteran, I really respect that they use American manufacturers and everything is made right here in the USA. When you go full Amsoil, you're never going back to regular petroleum oil. You won't regret it.
Great products overall. They've been dealing with some website troubles from a recent overhaul, so orders have been a bit unpredictable lately. But aside from that, I've had good luck with fast shipping and quality products from Amsoil.
This company has become a terrible place to do business. Things have gotten worse since the founder passed. The director on staff is super rude and doesn't seem to have a clue about what's actually happening in the company. He's completely out of touch. The products themselves are solid, but dealing with the business side is a nightmare. It's run like a multi-level marketing operation where independent sellers do all the work while the company keeps most of the money. They've fired dealers for no real reason either. They also remove and block people from posting negative comments about their experience, which tells you everything you need to know about this organization.
I placed an order and got a confirmation email, then nothing. When I reached out after a few days they said there was a payment issue and I'd need to call accounting - which was closed at the time. To save them the hassle, I just cancelled. But here's the thing - my account still shows a successful charge that hasn't been refunded after a week. Taking money for products they had no intention of sending is straight up theft.
As an online retailer, it's clear they don't want customers' money. I tried renewing my Preferred Membership 4 different times, and each time the payment went through successfully, but they still wouldn't process it. I finally had to file a dispute through my payment service to get back the $20 fee. That was 3 months ago and they're still telling me my membership isn't active, even though my bank and payment records prove otherwise. Plus, on my last order they only shipped 1 oil filter when I paid for 2. I honestly believe their products are better than what's available locally, and I have the money to spend with them, but they're making it impossible for me to give them my business.
This oil is fantastic. My Camry runs perfect and gets about 16,000 miles between changes. Compared to other brands, I'm saving close to 40 bucks on each oil change interval, and I don't have to keep running to get an oil change every 3 to 5 thousand miles. It saves time and saves money in the long run.
