What Shoppers Say About DevaCurl
DevaCurl is rated 1.4 out of 5 by 19 shoppers, with the overwhelming majority of reviews reporting serious concerns. Many customers report significant hair loss, scalp irritation (including dermatitis and eczema), and damaged curl patterns after using the brand's products. Reviewers express frustration that the company has blocked or restricted their attempts to seek refunds, leave warnings on social media, or raise concerns about product safety. Several mention awareness of lawsuits related to hair loss, which compounds their dissatisfaction with the company's denial of problems.
A small number of positive reviews note that the conditioning products themselves performed well, though even satisfied customers have complained about packaging issues, such as pump failures on recent bottle designs. The consistent thread across negative reviews is not only product-related damage but also poor customer service responses, with customers reporting being blocked or ignored when attempting to address serious health and safety concerns.

Sorted by: Most recentThe system forced me to give this a star rating or I'd rate it zero. Seriously, do NOT buy this brand. I used it back in 2016 and suffered hair loss, scalp irritation, skin breakouts, and worst of all, my curls completely disappeared. I switched products thinking maybe something else was wrong, but then I discovered how many other people had the exact same experience. This brand is awful and I'm telling everyone to stay away from it.
I've been using this brand's products for seven years. I started with just the conditioner and ultra defining gel, then added a couple more items after three years. Over the past year my hair became increasingly dry regardless of deep conditioning treatments I tried. I started getting a lot of frizz, dandruff, itching, and scalp redness. When I stopped using the products two weeks ago, the redness improved significantly, though the dandruff persists. My hair is extremely dry now and I've completely lost my curl pattern. Everything is frizzy and my curls have no definition. I've seen multiple dermatologists and none have found a lasting solution to fix this damage.
I placed an order on the website and they shipped it to me. Then the day before it was supposed to arrive, they asked me to return it without any warning beforehand. I had passed up other sales during the Black Friday event waiting for this order.
After using these products for over three years, I developed an extremely itchy scalp and experienced major hair loss. My stylist is wonderful, but these products are genuinely terrible. Even worse, I shared them with my young daughter for her curly hair, and she's now dealing with the same hair loss and scalp irritation. I'm asking the company to respond to my concerns and provide a refund for this situation.
I scheduled an appointment with the stylist at the salon location hoping to get better advice on caring for my curls. I showed up fifteen minutes early and was told to wait until my appointment time. When the stylist came out, he looked at my hair with obvious disapproval. I just wanted some highlights and a trim. He grabbed one of my curls, said my hair was too damaged, and refused to work with me. He told me I was wasting his time and wouldn't cut, wash, or set my hair. I was devastated and humiliated. I won't go back there. I felt like because I'm Hispanic and the staff was predominantly white, he didn't know how to or didn't want to work with my hair type. After this treatment, I made sure to tell my friends and family about the experience. They all agreed he seemed unprepared to handle my hair. They recommended a different salon and I had much better luck there.
I was excited ordering these products but lost my money when they never arrived. FedEx didn't deliver properly, and DevaCurl also shares blame by not providing the right address information to them. The worst part is when I tried reaching out to their customer service team, they couldn't be bothered to respond. I contacted them three separate times and got nothing back. It's disappointing how poorly they handle issues when customer service standards are so important nowadays.
Money was taken from my bank account without any warning or contact from the company. This is a scam.
Great experience with this company. They really stand behind the quality of what they sell.
