Dutchbulbs Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Dutchbulbs
Dutchbulbs has a divided customer base with significant quality and service concerns. Shoppers report receiving rotten or unhealthy bulbs, experiencing misleading promotions (advertised discounts not matching coupon codes), and encountering poor customer service when attempting to resolve issues. Some customers cite deceptive shipping practices and constantly delayed delivery dates. However, a minority of satisfied customers praise the large, healthy bulbs they received and note successful growth despite minor issues like mold on arrival.
The store's reputation appears damaged by instances of unresponsive customer support when customers documented problems with defective products. One reviewer retracted earlier criticism after realizing a confusion with another company, suggesting some review issues may exist, but the pattern of complaints about product quality, promotional dishonesty, and service responsiveness remains a consistent concern across multiple independent accounts.

Sorted by: Most recentFalse Promotions Terrible and unprofessional customer service. Their website advertises free shipping plus 20% off when you sign up for both email and text messages. But then they sent me a coupon code for just 10% off and free shipping. When I chatted with a representative about this discrepancy, they insisted I was mistaken and said they can't honor both deals. What? Honestly, I'm kind of glad this happened because it led me to read other reviews online, and based on what I found, I'm ordering elsewhere instead.
Scam Artist Company This has hands down been the worst interaction I've ever had with a business. Stay away. I'm a professional farmer and have worked with many bulb suppliers, so I'm writing this because I feel taken advantage of. I spent nearly $600 on dahlia bulbs and received them all rotten. I documented everything and sent it to them, and they said they'd refund me. Four months later, nothing. After spending over 10 hours on calls and emails, all I get are excuses: "The check is in the mail." "We need to void it in our system." "Give it another week or three." Just excuses and more excuses. I haven't received a penny and I'm exhausted from dealing with their incompetence. Nobody there seems willing to actually solve this. They're not just disorganized, they're running a scam. Consider companies like Longfield Gardens, Ball, American Meadows, or Eden Brothers instead. They actually deliver quality, keep their promises, and operate with integrity.
Half My Order Failed I bought four different plant varieties. The dwarf lilies and day lilies grew without any problems. Unfortunately, neither the phlox nor the cannas survived. None of them came up. I'll be trying a different supplier next time around.
My Mistake I appreciate the response to my earlier review. I realize now that I made an error in my assessment of Dutch Bulbs. I initially confused them with another bulb company because the customer service email appeared to be shared or similar. That was confusing on my end. I apologize for the mix-up, and I shouldn't have attributed that company's practices to them without verifying first.
Quality Bulbs, Good Size The bulbs and roots I received were impressively large and appeared very healthy when they showed up. Delivery took a bit longer than stated, though not by a huge amount. There was one peony root that came with some mold on it, but I cleaned it off and planted it anyway. Everything grew successfully, even that peony. I also ordered some double lily bulbs and peonies, and those lilies were absolutely massive. The quality and maturity of these plants really impressed me. I'll definitely be back to order from them again.
Deceptive Shipping Practices I placed my order at the end of May and ran into frustrating shipping delays. The website showed an estimated shipping date initially, which most businesses treat as when items actually ship. I checked back the next day and the date had been pushed back. This kept happening every single day, pushing the timeline back further with each check. When I contacted them about it, they gave me the standard shipping explanation. I decided to review their shipping policy more carefully, and here's what I found: the policy doesn't promise they'll try to get your order out quickly. The section they call a shipping schedule is actually just a chart showing earliest and latest dates. To me, that's misleading marketing. They list things that might cause delays, but they don't notify you directly when dates change. You have to go back to the website to discover your order got pushed back with zero explanation. At that point, I canceled and won't order from them again. Their shipping policy is designed in a way that tricks customers into thinking they'll get fast delivery.
Unacceptable Delays and Poor Response I bought trumpet lilies, tulips, and hyacinth back in April. One shipment finally arrived just days ago, which is completely unacceptable because these plants won't have enough time to establish themselves before winter in my zone. I immediately contacted the company and made my position clear: I was seriously disappointed by the inexcusable delay on that single delivery, I wanted the other two orders canceled with a full refund, and if they didn't take responsibility, I'd be canceling the substantial order I had placed for dahlias that spring. I made it very clear they needed to step up because this would be their only chance with me. Their response was just a generic template email about when the remaining items might ship. They ignored every single concern I laid out. I also submitted a cancellation request for that spring order. This company doesn't deserve your money. What bothers me most is that out of four other companies I ordered fall bulbs from that season, this was the only one with shipping problems like this. Look elsewhere.
Used to Be Better Dutch Bulbs was once a solid choice, but things have changed since they were acquired by a larger corporation. The product selection has shrunk considerably. To find what you're looking for, you often end up ordering from their related companies, which hasn't been a good experience. I've watched this parent company damage the reputation of several other retailers I used to trust, so I've stopped buying from most of them. Orders take longer to process than they should, and the shipping carrier they work with is really unreliable. I currently have a package that's been stuck in transit for a week. Knowing about the corporate ownership now, I'll be taking my business elsewhere. It's disappointing because they used to be dependable.
Great Speed and Service I purchased a bare-root peony from them and was really impressed with how quickly it arrived. It was also a nice bonus to get some free narcissus bulbs included with my order. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase and their service. I'd definitely recommend them to others.
