What Shoppers Say About Famous Dave’s Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que
Famous Dave's Legendary Pit Bar-B-Que receives mixed feedback from shoppers. Supporters praise the quality and value of their platter meals, citing generous portions and good flavors that justify regular visits and even long-distance trips. Some customers are so satisfied they travel significant distances specifically to dine there. However, a notable concern from critics involves the authenticity and quality of the barbecue itself: reviewers have complained about dry brisket lacking flavor, an absence of the characteristic smoke aroma expected at a barbecue restaurant, and overly sweet cornbread that tastes more like cake than traditional barbecue fare.
The restaurant appears to divide shoppers between those who find strong value in takeout platters and those disappointed by core barbecue quality issues. While repeat customers exist, potential diners should be aware that experiences with the quality of smoked meats may vary, and the restaurant does not consistently deliver the sensory experience typical of traditional pit barbecue establishments.

Sorted by: Most recentYou really should be able to smell BBQ smoking when you walk into a real barbecue restaurant, and that's just the start of the problems here. The brisket I got was incredibly dry and had no flavor whatsoever, making it really hard to even get down. As for the cornbread muffin, it was unbelievably sweet - honestly it tasted more like cake, and not in a good way. The coleslaw was actually pretty good with a nice tangy taste and some texture to it. My husband's onion ring strings were solid, and the broccoli was cooked just right. When our server saw how much food I couldn't finish, she assumed I wanted leftovers, and I explained what the issue was. The manager came over to apologize and actually took the charge off our bill, which was a nice gesture. We weren't expecting that since we figured it was just a bad restaurant choice on our part. He offered to get us something else, but I was already done eating. I hate having to be negative about a place, but this was genuinely awful and a complete waste of money and time. The staff was friendly and attentive, but that's really not enough reason to ever come back.
The quality of this place is so good that I'm willing to make the trip. Back when I lived in Minnesota, Famous Dave's was practically in my backyard, just a short drive away. Now that I've relocated down south to Virginia, I still drive over 160 miles out to their location because the food is that worth it.
