What Shoppers Say About Google
Google Fi has received overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 1.3 out of 5 stars from 20 reviews. The most common complaints center on misleading billing practices, where customers report being charged significantly more than advertised rates (ranging from $72 to $100 instead of the quoted $65), hidden limitations on supposedly unlimited data plans that throttle speeds after certain thresholds, and serious technical issues including SIM card problems that prevent texting and calling. Additional grievances include inadequate customer support that fails to resolve issues even when documented errors occur, problems with international roaming data being cut off prematurely, and difficulties with iPhone messaging compatibility. Several reviewers mention cancellation difficulties and being charged despite attempting to end services.
A small minority of shoppers rated the service more favorably, though positive review details were not provided in available feedback. The overwhelming pattern suggests customers feel misled by promotional offerings and promotional pressure to purchase additional products like watches, combined with service failures and unresponsive support teams. Multiple reviewers mention switching to competing carriers like T-Mobile and Spectrum Mobile, indicating customer dissatisfaction has led to defection to alternatives.

Sorted by: Most recentGoogle needs to stop making phones. Seriously, one star is being generous here. I'm expecting a lawsuit to happen against this division. It's completely fraudulent. Here's what went down: Google ran a promotion for 50% off their service the first year. Sounds good! Then they kept pushing this watch promotion at me. Alright, I'll grab some watches. The watches show up, and 10 days before the deal ends they're like, "Activate those watches or lose the discount." So I activate them and call support. They're just as confused as me. Turns out they can't honor that promotion anymore. Now I owe $400 per watch at full price. Sorry about that. Apparently it's because I set up an esim and already had another promotion running. But wait, there's more. They're charging me monthly for a phone line they can't even port correctly. And T-Mobile is doing the same thing. Oh, and the actual service quality is worse than both. Oh, and they don't care one bit. Just forget about it.
My husband and I have been really let down by this carrier, and after calling support multiple times, we're switching to T-Mobile. We're having a serious problem: our insurance company is the only one who can't reach either of our phone numbers with them, and it's putting our 2026 renewal at risk. I called support three times and did every troubleshooting step they told me to do, twice even. Nothing changed. I finally asked for a supervisor and got an email back basically saying the insurance company is at fault, even though they've told us multiple times that's not true. The insurance company says they just can't get through to our numbers with this carrier's routing. Here's what bugs me most: they said they can't even confirm they can fix it, they blamed the other company despite evidence saying otherwise, they didn't offer any real solution, this is clearly a routing problem on their end, and it's unacceptable when customers depend on these calls for important services. We're senior citizens on a fixed budget. Getting a simple phone call shouldn't be this hard.
Hope you never have a problem that needs customer service. Their support is even worse than regular phone companies. They wouldn't give us a refund even when it was their mistake. We cancelled our free trial after 4 days but still got charged for a full month. We could show them the email saying we cancelled and wouldn't be charged, but it didn't matter. The other reviews nailed it: you can't get to anyone in charge, the reps just say if the system shows you were charged then you were, and they can't even explain their own policies. Three stars only because the actual phone service works fine.
This service is definitely not unlimited data. After you use a certain amount, the data speed drops way down. The charges were never the $65 they originally said. It was always higher like $72 to $100. Somewhere during and after my time deployed overseas, I lost the ability to text people with iPhones and couldn't get verification codes for my bank account.
Really bad experience. I didn't realize how rough their customer service was until I read the other reviews here, but I can definitely back them up. When I was traveling overseas, my roaming data got shut off way before the 90-day window ended. I reached out asking for an explanation and if they could extend it back to normal. All I got was, well, the system said it's over so it must be correct. And they were straight up rude about it too! Definitely looking for a different carrier at this point.
This company is dealing with serious SIM issues that are making phones unable to send texts or make calls. They've been trying to fix this for 2 weeks with nothing to show for it. I'm making the switch to Spectrum mobile and getting a year free.
Stay away from this company. I need a replacement SIM and it has to be shipped which takes a whole week. A week without a phone is just not doable. The quickest shipping is 4 to 5 days!
Setting up an account with them is a total mess from start to finish. I ordered a phone because I didn't have an unlocked one to use, but the whole thing turned into such a confusing nightmare that I just went ahead and went with Verizon instead.
This company has hands down the worst phone support I've ever dealt with from any carrier. Been here a few months and I thought Google would provide decent help. I was wrong.
I've been with this service for years and while it wasn't perfect, their customer support used to be solid enough that I recommended them to people. Now I'm stuck in a total nightmare with their support team. I pay monthly for phone protection, and when I cracked my screen a few weeks back, I filed a claim for a replacement. The replacement took forever because apparently there was a bug in their system. When the replacement finally came, it was broken too. Now they're saying they won't swap out this defective phone until I send it back for them to check it out. That means I'm without a phone for 5 to 7 days. As a firefighter who depends on my phone for critical calls, this is just not okay. Honestly it would be unacceptable for anyone in today's world. It's clear they're cutting corners on support costs, and the result is a service level that's just not acceptable anymore.
