What Shoppers Say About Gruv
Gruv is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 19 shoppers, with the majority of reviews expressing serious dissatisfaction. Shoppers who have had positive experiences highlight competitive pricing, fast shipping, good inventory selection, and working customer support on occasion. However, these positives are vastly outweighed by recurring problems: damaged or defective items arriving, poor handling of returns (including inconvenient new QR code label requirements), inaccurate product information (particularly regarding accessibility features like closed captioning), inventory and fulfillment errors, and unresponsive customer service when issues occur.
Common complaints center on product quality upon arrival, the difficulty of initiating returns, and a lack of accountability when customers report problems. Several reviewers note that after contacting support about defective items or false product descriptions, Gruv either offers inadequate solutions or stops responding altogether. The overwhelming pattern suggests that while initial transactions may go smoothly, customers face significant friction and frustration when something goes wrong.

Sorted by: Most recentFound out about a 4K steel book of Hackers and desperately wanted it. Googled around, found one place that had it cheap but they were out. Found it on gruv.ca with tax and shipping for about fifty bucks, ordered it. It came from Toronto, just three hours away, but took forever to arrive. When I finally got it and opened the plastic, the steel book wouldn't close. I emailed them and it became a nightmare. They'd respond one day then ghost me, I'd email again and they'd respond again then disappear. I tried multiple times and kept getting the same pattern. I even contacted Universal directly about the defect. All I wanted was a simple exchange for one that actually closes but instead they keep offering me a ten percent discount on my next purchase, which isn't what I need at all. I'm not paying fifty bucks for something defective that won't even shut. They're not responding properly and until they handle this I'm done shopping there. Customer service is worse than any carrier I've dealt with.
According to Gruv, they've stopped letting people print their own return labels. Now you have to take a QR code to your post office and have them print it there. I work during post office hours. This is completely ridiculous and unacceptable. I've tried talking to their customer service about this but nothing changes. Whoever's making these calls doesn't care about their customers. I have a basic phone and a job. Now I have to take time off work just to return something that showed up damaged because they won't send a simple printable mailing label. I've been a customer for about six years, buying from both eBay and their site. Looks like I'm done collecting physical media since they've made it clear they don't want my business.
I've ordered from Gruv about ten times now across their website, eBay, and Best Buy, so I've got a pretty clear picture of how they work. The positives are solid. Shipping is always fast, their prices are really competitive, and they throw in a first-time discount on top of that. Their inventory is extensive and the few times I've contacted support were handled decently. The real problem is the packaging and condition of items. About one in five of my orders came in worse shape than what was described. Twice I got movies labeled as new that clearly had been opened and resealed, with the digital code inserts missing. Another couple times the cases were completely crushed. My last order was especially bad, both cases came apart, and one disc actually punctured through the packaging because they stuffed two movies together in a super thin bubble mailer. Either the shipping company roughed it up or Gruv needs better protection. When I asked about replacements they mentioned sending new shipping info.
I emailed them before spending over a hundred dollars on a DVD set and specifically asked if it had closed captioning. They said yes. They were lying. I'm deaf and I need either closed captioning or English subtitles to watch anything. This set has absolutely neither. There aren't even any menu or setup options. Gruv responded with an offer for twenty percent off a future purchase. So they expect me to keep something completely useless that I can't watch at all. This is unbelievable.
If negative ratings were possible I'd give them. Here's what happened. I ordered The Last of Us season one and Training Day steel books. The Last of Us was a preorder so it would charge when shipped, and Training Day was a regular purchase that charged right away. Then I got an email saying Training Day was actually out of stock, but if I wanted to keep the preorder going on The Last of Us they suggested we wait until it shipped and they could refund Training Day at that point without messing up the preorder. That day comes, The Last of Us ships out, but no refund for Training Day. Back and forth with emails they claim there was some issue refunding my card. What the problem actually was? Nobody will say. They offered an item of equal value or a check. I said send a check. It's been literal months of back and forth emails. They keep claiming they've sent checks, I have no idea how many, and not a single one has shown up. I finally told them just send me a movie instead of the refund and they said they already sent checks.
They shipped me the wrong disc. I got it, realized it was incorrect, sent them emails about it, and now they're completely ignoring me. Don't trust them with your money.
This place is a complete scam. They shipped me a movie I never actually got and now they're refusing to give me my money back until I return the disc that I never received in the first place. I've explained this to them multiple times but all I get back are the same canned responses written in broken English about how they need the disk back first. Total waste of time. Don't buy from them.
I ordered the 4K version of North by Northwest and they said it was delivered to my mailbox via USPS. Except it wasn't there. I don't know if USPS messed up the delivery or what, but I have no way to fix this or get my money back.
The DVDs came in nice packaging and looked brand new, but unfortunately I found some defects that made me want to return them. Gruv's support team was fantastic and handled everything super fast and smoothly. Really impressed with how they took care of it.
They just cancelled my order with zero explanation. Now I'm stuck paying currency conversion fees on top of everything. They clearly don't care one bit. It's obvious they were gambling on having stuff in stock and when it didn't work out they just canceled. Stay far away from this place.
