What Shoppers Say About Gruv
Gruv is rated 1.7 out of 5 by 19 shoppers, with the majority of reviews expressing serious dissatisfaction. Shoppers who have had positive experiences highlight competitive pricing, fast shipping, good inventory selection, and working customer support on occasion. However, these positives are vastly outweighed by recurring problems: damaged or defective items arriving, poor handling of returns (including inconvenient new QR code label requirements), inaccurate product information (particularly regarding accessibility features like closed captioning), inventory and fulfillment errors, and unresponsive customer service when issues occur.
Common complaints center on product quality upon arrival, the difficulty of initiating returns, and a lack of accountability when customers report problems. Several reviewers note that after contacting support about defective items or false product descriptions, Gruv either offers inadequate solutions or stops responding altogether. The overwhelming pattern suggests that while initial transactions may go smoothly, customers face significant friction and frustration when something goes wrong.

Sorted by: Most recentThe website is broken and customer support doesn't actually help. I got an email saying I needed to update my credit card info to get my order, so I tried doing that on their site. The update feature didn't work at all. I reached out to support and they told me there's literally no way to update payment details online or through them, which makes no sense since they emailed me asking me to do exactly that. Their solution? Reorder the whole thing. Problem is, the item still shows in stock on the website but there's no purchase button, so I can't even place a new order. This is seriously frustrating on every level.
I had really great experiences with Gruv for about four years. Anything that came damaged they replaced without any hassle. The problem now is that I have a P.O. box address and they keep using FedEx instead of USPS. When FedEx gets a package for a P.O. box they claim they're fixing my street address. But that's exactly why I have a P.O. box in the first place because FedEx constantly sends my packages to the wrong address. Gruv promised me this wouldn't happen again. I ordered yesterday and they did it again. That's it, they lost a customer. Done.
Getting damaged steel books from Gruv has become so routine that their name is basically slang in the Reddit community for dented and damaged products. I've preordered five steel books and every single one arrived in terrible condition. The Departed, all three Ocean's movies, and American Sniper, they all showed up with dents at the seams, crushed covers, broken disc holders, you name it. The reason is obvious - they use the cheapest packaging possible, just a bubble padded envelope. That's it. So they save a little money which supposedly gets passed to customers, but then they don't protect anything and end up losing money from all the returns. It makes absolutely no sense. There's an easy fix here: ship steel books in actual boxes. That's it.
Got the new Oppenheimer DVD from Gruv on eBay and it arrived in a few days in an envelope. The disc wouldn't play at all. Nothing. Gruv insisted I print a label and ship it back, but I can't print anything, no computer access, and I'm living out in the country in my mid-seventies with nothing but an old cell phone from years ago. I gave up and threw out the useless disc, losing the eighteen dollars. Tried to close my account and weeks later I'm still dealing with it. Just got a printed label in the mail two days ago. The disc has been garbage for weeks at this point. Contacted eBay and the representative said Gruv was blocking my account deletion as payback for the negative review. He mentioned I wasn't the only person they've done this to. eBay used to be reliable but not anymore. Still fighting to get that account closed. Finally managed to cancel everything after two months. Don't miss the hassle.
Update: I'd suggest using Paypal if you order from them. I originally got no email responses so I tried going through Paypal and they answered immediately over those messages. They said they had been replying to my emails but nothing showed up in my inbox and they had no errors on their end. They did allow the return and gave my money back, so they will help if you can actually contact them. The problem is that without a third party intermediary I would've been completely out of luck since they have zero other contact methods. I emailed customer support two months ago and never heard back, even after sending two follow up messages. Most items came in decent shape, but I bought a really nice boxed set in a metal container for about 120 dollars and it came with a warped edge and a damaged metal box. I reached out asking for a swap and it's been nearly three months now with absolutely no response. I'd definitely be nervous about purchasing anything expensive from them.
Update: Try using Paypal if you do order from them. Originally I couldn't get email responses at all, so I decided to file through Paypal instead and they answered right away through those messages. They claimed they had been emailing me back but nothing hit my inbox and they said there were no delivery errors on their end. They did accept the return and refunded everything, so they will work with you if you can actually reach them. But if I didn't have Paypal as a backup option I would've been completely stuck since there's literally no other way to contact them. I wrote to their support two months ago with no response, followed up twice since then, and still nothing. Most of my order came fine, but I bought a premium boxed set in a metal case for about 120 dollars and it arrived with a warped edge and a beat up container. I tried to get a replacement but they never responded, so it's now been going on three months. I'd definitely hesitate before spending that kind of money with them again.
This was easily the worst experience I've had with any retailer. I bought a Universal Monsters steel book that was on sale and when it showed up four days later, it was completely destroyed. It looked like it had been kicked around. The steel book was smashed, bent, warped, and broken everywhere. I asked about a replacement right away and they said they'd ship one out once I sent the damaged copy back, which seemed reasonable even though it was annoying. Getting the return label took forever though. I had to keep asking customer support for answers and nobody apologized or took responsibility. Just vague responses. Finally I got the label and shipped the item back immediately. Then silence. No follow up, no replacement, no refund. I kept emailing asking what was happening and got the runaround. They kept saying the replacement was on the way, there was a warehouse problem, a processing hold up, weather delays, you name it. Basically anything except an actual apology or real solution. A month went by and I still had nothing.
I ordered The Batman in 4K and got 300 in 4K instead, which is a movie I wanted anyway so that was somewhat lucky. Went ahead and ordered The Batman again plus Doom. Both of those ended up arriving correctly.
