What Shoppers Say About Herrschners
Herrschners, an online yarn and craft supply retailer, has a sharply divided customer base reflected in its 2.1 rating from 25 shoppers. Satisfied customers praise the store's yarn selection, product quality, and careful packaging, with some noting that items arrive in perfect condition and that periodic shipping sales help offset costs. However, the majority of recent reviews describe serious operational problems: unauthorized repeated charges and unwanted shipments, packages that never arrive despite paid shipping, incorrect address handling, unresponsive customer service via phone and chat, customer service representatives hanging up on callers, and difficulty applying promotional codes at checkout.
The most consistent complaint centers on customer service accessibility and responsiveness. Multiple shoppers report being unable to reach representatives by phone or through the website chat system, and those who do connect describe unhelpful or dismissive interactions. Long backorder periods (sometimes several months) are also mentioned. The combination of billing issues, shipping failures, and absent customer support suggests that while the product quality may be good for those who receive their orders successfully, the fulfillment and service experience is unreliable for a significant portion of customers.

Sorted by: Most recentThey're overcharging Pennsylvania sales tax by an extra two percent. When I contacted customer service they insisted I was completely wrong, like I don't know what the tax rate is where I live. I escalated to management and they confirmed I was actually correct. So they are indeed overcharging, but according to their tax software that's what they have to do. Even though the calculation is wrong, they're still required to overcharge. This makes absolutely no sense.
My order from early September still hasn't arrived and it's incredibly late. I placed a large order expecting 2-3 week delivery but it's been pushing 5 weeks now with only a backorder slip received so far. Years ago, customer service meant actually serving the customer quickly and with care. The right move here is either send a refund or process a replacement order immediately. You should already be aware of this situation without me having to spell it out. Your company won't survive this kind of apathy toward customers.
I ordered a substantial amount of yarn early September and expected it within 2-3 weeks like any reasonable person would. It's now been going on 5 weeks and I've only received a partial backorder notification. There was a time when companies actually took care of their customers promptly and professionally. This company should be proactively offering refunds or replacement orders without me having to complain. If you're reading this, you should already understand the problem. With this level of indifference toward customers, this company is headed toward being acquired or going under.
Be careful ordering from this company. I purchased around two hundred and forty seven dollars worth of yarn but only received about one hundred seventy five dollars worth. That means I'm missing seventy dollars in merchandise. So I asked for a partial refund for what I didn't receive, which seems pretty straightforward. Two months later and I still don't have my refund. The director has recently reached out, but before that customer service was absolutely useless. They couldn't tell me who to escalate to or what to do, and wouldn't connect me to a manager for two weeks because she supposedly wasn't available. Eventually I got a manager on the phone but she claimed she'd sent me everything, which is completely false. If it had been in the box, it would be in my possession. Don't risk it with them because if they mess up your order and forget items, they'll just blame you and say you're lying. How can you trust a company that can't even pack orders correctly?
I've been waiting three weeks for someone to contact me about a problem with a cross stitch kit. I was told the person who handles that only works one day a week and the representative I spoke with didn't have any expertise in that area, but they promised someone would call me back. That was two weeks ago. Additionally, the quality of the lap quilt wasn't what the photos suggested. I was expecting a nice lap quilt but what arrived was basically a thin preprinted fabric that felt cheap.
Their customer service is absolutely terrible! I called in to place an order in January because I was having issues with something I'd ordered online back in the fall. I never got the confirmation email that was promised. A week later I called to check on the status. They couldn't help me but a supervisor assured me someone would call within a week with her name and extension number. That call never happened. I called back requesting to speak with her at that extension and the representative refused to transfer me and also couldn't tell me where my order was. Finally three weeks later the order shows up with no invoice included. I've been ordering from this company for four decades but these last two orders have been poor quality and the customer service has completely disappeared.
Their products are nice but don't expect to get any updates about your order or when to expect delivery. I even reached out to their customer service team directly and got absolutely no response.
I placed an order and nowhere in the checkout process did it mention that items were backordered until March. I got a shipping notification and even tracked the package. Opening it was such a letdown because all I got was a thimble and a note saying the rest wouldn't arrive until later. I absolutely would not have ordered those items if I'd known about the backorder status. Really disappointed with how this was handled.
This store used to be fantastic for crochet pattern kits. Or at least I thought that until today. Back in June I ordered a diamond ripple afghan kit and was told it was on backorder until August. Well August arrived and I heard nothing from them about the status. So I called customer service and was informed the pattern was still backordered and now wouldn't be available until September. Having to wait another month wasn't appealing, so I asked about a refund for the eighty dollars I'd paid for the yarn. Turns out the order had already been canceled without notifying me. After talking to customer service I learned the pattern had been discontinued altogether. They did give me the refund though. I did end up purchasing the yarn locally since I wasn't going to wait another month. The lack of communication and poor service was really disappointing. It's sad because Herrschners was such a solid company, but not anymore. I won't be returning as a customer.
This place used to be my go to for yarn. They had reliable products, solid shipping, and fair prices. But it's been a minute since I shopped there and wow, things have really changed. I placed my order and entered the coupon code they advertised like always. It didn't work. After digging around I found out most of their coupons don't apply to Canadian customers, and yes I'm in Canada. The prices looked okay but then I found out they switched from charging in Canadian dollars to US dollars. You don't see the actual cost until your credit card statement arrives. So I clicked that fast order fill button and sure enough it was processed the next day, but the shipping company didn't pick it up for a whole week. That fast processing didn't help much. Then it has to go through customs, and now I'm getting hit with duty charges plus brokerage fees from the shipper. It used to ship from a Canadian warehouse and we never paid any duty. Bottom line: I'm done. They're not competitive anymore. I can find the same stuff here in Canada for cheaper prices.
