What Shoppers Say About Lakeshore Learning
Lakeshore Learning shoppers are sharply divided in their assessments. Those giving five-star ratings praise the educational quality and construction of the toys, particularly items like marble runs and water rockets. Customers who receive attentive customer service, including staff members like Amy, highlight the company's willingness to resolve product issues and fix order problems when contacted directly. However, half of reviewers rate the store one star, citing systemic failures in fulfillment and support. The most common complaints involve missed shipping timeframes (orders taking a week or more when three days are promised), delayed holiday deliveries, difficulty reaching customer service, and unresolved issues with discounts and order accuracy. Several shoppers noted that repeated follow-up calls were necessary to fix problems, and some encountered only answering machines when attempting phone support.
The pattern suggests that Lakeshore Learning's products satisfy customers, but operational inconsistencies in order processing and the quality of customer service responses create significant frustration, particularly around time-sensitive purchases like holiday gifts. While some customers report positive resolutions after persistence, others feel the burden of multiple contact attempts is unacceptable.

Sorted by: Most recentAbout ten days before Christmas I placed an order for a toy, but I never got confirmation of where it should be sent after I put in my billing information. I fired off a couple of angry emails to them. They caught the mistake right away and fixed it, and the gift made it before Christmas. Now that's what I call real customer service! Absolutely top-notch. I didn't actually see a response to my emails at the time, probably because I'm terrible about checking spam, but my son let me know the package had been delivered. Really appreciate their team!
I really liked the store and their toys, but when something goes wrong with an order, their customer service is absolutely awful. I used to tell people to shop here, but now I warn them to stay away. I ordered my daughter's birthday present almost a month ahead of time to make sure it would arrive on time. It didn't get delivered until after a month had passed, almost a week after her birthday. They said it was on backorder and they didn't actually have it in stock, which means they sold me something they didn't even have. Zero effort to make it right or offer any kind of refund. This company is incredibly poor and their customer service department desperately needs a complete overhaul. They deserve an F grade for how they handled this.
My grandchildren absolutely enjoy the educational toys I've gotten them from Lakeshore, including the marble runs and water rockets. Everything is well constructed and keeps them entertained while learning. When a small piece on one of the marble runs broke, I reached out and spoke with Amy in their customer service department. She was incredibly kind and helpful, and immediately arranged to send a replacement at no cost to me.
My order is still showing as processing after over a week now. I've been trying to reach someone about it since last week with no luck. Their website promises shipping within three days, so this is way past that already.
We placed our order expecting it to arrive in three business days, but it didn't ship for a whole week. Once it did ship, the carrier they use seemed incredibly slow, so we didn't receive it until much later than promised. These were supposed to be Christmas presents and arrived late as a result. When we complained to their support team, they just blamed the holiday season and didn't offer any compensation or solutions. Other retailers and shipping companies managed to deliver on time this year, so Lakeshore shouldn't promise quick shipping if they can't deliver on it. The fact that they also use such a slow carrier makes it worse. They want customers to spend good money but then don't respect our expectations. This was our first and last order from them, and we won't be recommending them.
Their phone customer service needs some serious work. I bought toys and was told I'd get 25% off one item, but that discount never actually got applied to my order. When I called back to fix it, it took forever but they finally corrected the price. Then I had to call again because something still wasn't right, and all I got was the answering machine multiple times during normal business hours. Left messages but nobody called me back. The products themselves are actually nice and seem durable, but dealing with their customer service makes it not worth it. I'm still trying to get them to make this right because I'm owed about $10. Why bother offering coupons if they're not going to honor them properly?
In-store shopping at Lakeshore is great every time, but the phone line is a nightmare. I've been a loyal customer with eight grandchildren, but whenever I try to use a five dollar reward from their emails, something goes wrong. Just trying to buy two paint sets required three different people because my rewards kept failing. I had earned 636 points that everyone confirmed, but after I redeemed the five dollar reward, it subtracted 500 points and left 136 remaining, yet nobody could figure out where the actual reward went. I spent close to an hour on the phone dealing with this mess. Finally a third rep discovered the system had a glitch. This isn't a one-time thing either. It seems like every single time I have a reward to use, there's a problem that makes me wonder if they even want to give it to me. If I wasn't so stubborn about following up, I would've never gotten it. It's only five dollars, but it's the principle. They email you saying you have points you earned fair and square, but actually using them is another battle. Looking at my purchase history should've told them I'm a legitimate customer, not someone trying to cheat them. Goodbye Lakeshore.
The Short Vowels Skill-Building Book Set has been fantastic for our first graders! They're really progressing with their reading skills thanks to these books. The bright pictures and simple sentence structure work perfectly for kids just starting out. We're also planning to grab the blends and digraphs set since this one has been such a hit.
Had a great experience with the staff at the Friendswood location. One employee in particular, Shannon, was so helpful and genuinely friendly. This is definitely the place to go when you need educational materials and learning resources.
