Music & Arts Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Music & Arts
Music & Arts receives overwhelmingly negative feedback from shoppers, with 25 reviews averaging 1.2 out of 5. The most serious complaints involve unauthorized charges and billing issues, with customers reporting multiple duplicate charges, ongoing billing after attempting to cancel rentals, and unresolved refund requests. Customers describe the rent-to-own instrument program as problematic, stating the company ignores cancellation requests, continues billing indefinitely despite contract terms, and provides unresponsive customer service when disputes arise. Additional complaints include undelivered or damaged orders, unopened boxes with missing parts, non-responsive customer support, and deceptive marketing practices such as school-impersonating promotional flyers.
While a small minority of reviews are positive, the dominant pattern across negative feedback centers on customer service failures and billing disputes rather than product quality. Shoppers report difficulty reaching support staff, having calls and emails ignored, and being unable to resolve issues through standard channels. Several customers indicate they had to take action outside normal processes, such as freezing credit cards, to stop unwanted charges. The phrase "scam" appears repeatedly in reviews, reflecting customer perception that the company's practices are deliberately deceptive rather than merely inefficient.

Sorted by: Most recentI bought a mute online and it still hasn't shown up after 2 weeks, even though the website said it was in stock and would ship in 3-5 business days. I called customer service and was put on hold for an hour. I sent an email and got nothing back. These people are a disaster. Don't buy from them.
Okay, this is about the website because the actual store location was really helpful. The website customer service for this company is absolutely terrible. I sent an email and called multiple times with no response. No one would pick up the phone. They said to leave my number and I'd be added to the queue. They called back a week later. Plus they never even sent a confirmation that the instrument got shipped to the store. Good thing I called the store directly or I'd still be wondering where it was. I wanted to leave this review on their website but there's nowhere to put feedback except on individual product pages, so that'll go there.
Renting a clarinet through this company was fine, but trying to end the rental has been a nightmare. You can't cancel online from your account, so you have to mail a written request and then hold on the phone for what feels like forever just to get a return authorization. The whole process seems like it's from the 1990s and designed to make you give up. Now that the school year's done and we just want to stop paying, they're making it ridiculously difficult. I'm not renting from them again and I'd tell other parents to be careful and keep everything in writing if they do.
This is such an awful company. I have my account set up with my bank details, and even after NUMEROUS conversations with customer service, they keep mailing me letters about an outstanding balance and threatening to send it to collections. These people clearly don't know what they're doing. They shouldn't even be in business.
I had a really bad experience at this store. Last October I went in wanting to rent instruments for 4 months with the option to rent again in spring. But the salesman totally misrepresented the deal. He said if I rented for 10 months I'd get to keep the instrument free during the summer. I believed him and signed up. I paid everything up front in the store, thinking it was settled. Then I started seeing random $43.46 charges on my card. When I got back, I called to ask what was going on. The manager told me I was supposed to renew by June 1st to get that free summer rental, which nobody had ever mentioned. Instead of fixing the problem, I was just told to bring the instrument back immediately, so I did that same night. But then nobody followed up at all. After 10 days of silence I called back and got a rep named Jorge who said he couldn't handle the refund and would send it up to his supervisor. He gave me a request number and said someone would get back to me.
My contract was for 15 payments of $503 but I had to call and point out they were overcharging me. They sent a check for the 10 extra payments they took, but now they're sending me to collections saying I owe them money. I'm just going to let them. This company's all overseas service reps and there's no real resolution. It'd be better to just buy a used instrument than deal with these people.
I'm warning everyone: don't buy from this company. I had a lease-to-own agreement through another music shop and thought everything was going fine with my payment plan. Then I found out this company took over the contract and changed everything. They're now saying I owe for three more years when I should've been done already. Their customer service is terrible and should be fired. They're also outsourcing calls, and one rep didn't even submit my escalation requests so nothing got done. I had to call back just to get someone to actually help me. They're not working with me to fix this mess at all. If anyone from the company wants to reach out, I'm open to it.
Where do I even start? The customer service is terrible. Every time I call, the reps act like I'm bothering them. Also, for two months in a row now, they've just pulled money from my account without asking permission first. They said they don't need my consent since my account is in collections. That's the worst business practice I've ever heard of. I never agreed to let them take out $100 every two weeks but they keep doing it. It's shameful. When I called to complain, the reps didn't care at all. I am so disappointed in this company and will NEVER rent from them again. Be careful.
Do NOT rent from this place. They kept charging my credit card long after my rental agreement ended. I called customer service multiple times over several months and each time they told me they'd fix it, but nothing happened. It took more than 6 weeks to sort out and I even had to file a complaint with the BBB. Even after I removed my credit card info from their system, they started mailing me bills with collection threats. Stay away from this company. They'll keep billing you after you're done paying, say sorry, promise to fix it, and then ignore you. The reps will say they'll refund your money but it takes 5-7 days, and when it doesn't show up, the next call gets another promise followed by another 2-3 day wait.
We returned our rental instrument to the school, but they kept charging our credit card afterwards. I've called customer service multiple times and they won't do anything about it. We were told to drop the instrument off at school, and they keep pointing to one small line in the contract about calling them when returning the instrument to the school. The whole situation is confusing and feels deliberately misleading.
