What Shoppers Say About Petsmart Canada
Petsmart Canada shoppers are deeply divided. Those who praise the retailer highlight exceptional grooming services, particularly citing groomers like Chloe and Dawn at the Okotoks location, along with friendly and knowledgeable staff throughout the store. However, a majority of negative reviews center on online ordering problems and customer service frustrations: price increases on autoship subscriptions without warning, payment processing issues when using US credit cards on the Canadian site, delayed shipments, and nearly impossible phone support with frustrating hold systems.
The most common complaint involves the autoship program, where customers report unexpected price hikes and automatic charges without clear cancellation options. Website functionality and payment barriers for cross-border customers also emerge as persistent issues. While in-store shopping and grooming services receive genuine praise from loyal customers, the online shopping experience and customer support infrastructure appear to be significant pain points that deter repeat business.

Sorted by: Most recentDo yourself and your pet a favor and skip the Whitby location on Victoria Street East. We brought our dog in for a nail trim last Friday and it was a terrible experience. The staff didn't take any time to understand your animal and had a poor attitude throughout. We tried to tell them about our dog's breed mix and they basically told us we were wrong. Their nail trimming process is ridiculous. Imagine having a rope around your neck while standing on ice and you get the idea of what it's like for the dog. Instead of letting the dog get used to the tools, they just pulled out a nail grinder and expected the animal to sit perfectly still. Why would you bring your car to a hardware store for repairs? Apply that same logic here and don't bring your pet to Petsmart for grooming services. Your pet will be much happier.
The customer service has been disappointing. When I complained, I got generic responses that didn't show anyone actually read my messages. I tried multiple times to explain that their website is hard to use when you want to make changes to your order, but nobody seemed to really listen. The store itself is fine with good selection and friendly staff, but customer service matters to me and it's not cutting it. I'm taking my business elsewhere now.
Just took my small dog in for grooming and found out they now charge an extra $12 for brushing, on top of the grooming fee itself. The groomer was nice about it, even gave me a discount code, but my total came to over $125. That's way too much when I can get the same quality work elsewhere for half the price. I won't be back. Petsmart needs to reconsider these charges because I'm sure they're losing customers over this.
My experience with ordering online and picking up in store has been really good. My orders are always ready quickly and everything has been exactly what I ordered.
I bought gift cards online but ran into a major problem trying to use them. The mobile app doesn't have grooming options, so I went to the website to buy cards and then tried to redeem them for grooming the next day. Neither the website nor the app lets you enter a gift card to pay. I called customer service and spoke with a supervisor who actually suggested I just charge the full grooming service to my credit card instead, which made no sense since I already bought gift cards. She said they'd look into it and offered me a $5 coupon if I spend $40, which felt insulting. They transferred me around to different departments and the store manager refused to really listen to my complaint. When I asked for a head office contact, she said they don't have one available. Bottom line: don't buy gift cards if you plan to use them online because the system doesn't support it. This corporation has a terrible website.
When will the leadership at Petsmart and their parent company finally face some kind of oversight or investigation?
We're huge fans of Petsmart and shop here regularly for our cats. The staff genuinely care and are always friendly and helpful. When something's out of stock, they make an effort to locate it or order it in for you. They even add thoughtful personal messages to orders placed through delivery services, which is really sweet. Their prices are also hard to beat. Definitely recommend this store to other pet owners.
I'm a regular shopper here for my cats and I absolutely love this place. The team is genuinely nice and helpful every single time I come in. When something's not in stock, they go out of their way to track it down or get it ordered for me. I also really appreciate the personal touches they add to orders, like cute little messages when you order through delivery apps. On top of that, their prices can't be beat. Definitely worth checking out if you're a pet owner.
My dog just came back from Petsmart grooming and the work was fantastic. They even threw in a cute little bandana for him. Every visit here has gone great. My pup actually knows they keep treats up front and practically jumped on the table because he was so excited. The whole team is really friendly and we'll definitely be coming back soon. Our previous groomer was expensive, way too slow, and honestly didn't do a great job. A friend told us about Petsmart and we've been loyal ever since.
