What Shoppers Say About Microtel Inns & Suites
Microtel Inns and Suites receives highly polarized reviews, with shoppers either praising exceptional value and welcoming staff or reporting serious cleanliness and maintenance issues. Positive reviewers consistently highlight competitive pricing, comfortable beds, convenient locations, and helpful staff members who go above and beyond. However, a significant portion of reviewers report unacceptable hygiene problems including visible dirt, pest infestations, stained mattresses, and filthy linens across multiple properties. Complaints also mention malfunctioning amenities such as loud air conditioning units and non-responsive front desk staff regarding refunds or remedies.
The wide gap between five-star and one-star ratings suggests highly inconsistent service quality across different Microtel locations. While some guests report satisfactory stays at acceptable prices, others describe conditions far below basic hotel standards. Cleanliness appears to be the primary recurring concern among dissatisfied customers, who note that budget pricing does not justify the level of filth and disrepair they encountered. Potential guests should research specific property reviews carefully before booking.

Sorted by: Most recentBest pricing around here. Our stay was comfortable and the location is super convenient. The staff made us feel welcome, which definitely helped for our last-minute booking. Would stay again and tell others about it.
Look at what happened to their Solihull property. It's turned into a dump. Stay away from their entire chain.
Needs WorkStayed at Ramada Cambridge and found the check-in experience lacking compared to other locations in the chain. We don't mind basic rooms since rates are budget-friendly, but cleanliness should be a given, especially as pet-friendly guests. The shower cubicle had hair and dust streaks on the floor. The bigger issue was one twin bed squeaking loudly with the slightest movement, which kept waking me throughout the night while my partner slept fine on the other side. Temperature control was frustrating too - the room was extremely warm when we arrived and stayed uncomfortably hot even after turning off heat. Windows couldn't be opened. Most annoying was the complete lack of charging ports or USB outlets near the beds, forcing my phone to charge across the room overnight.
Harrisburg location was absolutely disgusting. I know budget hotels have limits, but this went way past acceptable. Roaches crawling across the counters, filthy towels left in the bathroom from previous guests, mysterious dried substances on the walls, visibly dirty carpet throughout, and gross toilets. The mattress had stains all over it. They claim free hot breakfast but told me when I checked in that they don't offer it. Gym floor was revolting, paint peeling everywhere, and nobody brought fresh towels despite asking. Total disappointment from start to finish.
Only there for six hours and didn't sleep a wink. The air conditioning unit was impossibly loud. Front desk staff couldn't help, and we're still waiting on a refund for the dinner we paid for.
Ramada Stansted had a manager who really went above and beyond. When our TV stopped working, she personally came to the room and quickly got us switched to another one. The beds were incredibly comfy and the towels were luxuriously fluffy. The power shower was fantastic. A little dusty in places, but otherwise excellent and perfectly situated near the airport.
The London North location is stuck in time and hasn't seen updates since it was built. My room reeked of stale cigarettes, and when I told the front desk, they said I couldn't switch until 11am the next day, which wasn't helpful given how strong the smell was. The bathroom towels also had an odor. That first night was chaos with a large group partying in about ten rooms on the ground floor, blasting music and yelling until 4am. I called in complaints multiple times but nothing happened, and I had work the next morning. I did get moved to a better room eventually, but the overall experience was terrible. Spent a week there for work and won't recommend it to anyone.
The Oldbury location was a letdown. Found used protection in a box under the chair, sheets that were filthy, walls with holes in them, and a disgusting shower. Definitely not returning. Sticking with Travelodge or Premier Inn instead.
Won't be going back to the Solihull location. Had to request three different rooms before they finally got one that was acceptable.
Staff were dismissive and unhelpful regarding a billing error at Park Hall Wolverhampton. We booked seven rooms for a conference and discovered two had been charged twice. When we contacted them about a refund, they brushed off responsibility and claimed processing would take three weeks. Completely unacceptable. Won't be returning.
