What Shoppers Say About TurboTax Canada
TurboTax Canada is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 16 shoppers, with highly polarized opinions. Positive reviewers praise the software for its straightforward process, reasonable pricing, and solid online support features like screen sharing, which some found superior to competitor services. However, the majority of shoppers report serious issues, including software malfunctions that required switching to alternative tax programs, incorrect form reading that resulted in underpayment of taxes and additional accountant fees, unclear product expiration policies, and poor customer service experiences.
The most common complaint involves functional failures of the software itself, particularly with form processing and tax calculations. Several reviewers also experienced frustration with support interactions and felt misled about product policies. Those few who had positive experiences appreciated the ease of use and pricing, but these voices are significantly outnumbered by shoppers who encountered significant problems that cost them time, money, or both.

Sorted by: Most recentThis actually worked great for me on my first shot! Yeah, there were a few bumps in the road, but the online screen sharing feature is really solid and way better than what I used last year. That other service had me on hold for almost an hour every single time I called, and they actually told me to call back later when I tried reaching them again. Ended up being a two-week process for me to complete everything and file, but it was smooth sailing compared to waiting on the phone constantly. No regrets with my choice.
This software didn't work for me. Wasted two weeks trying to get it to function before I had to switch over to a different tax program to complete my filing. Definitely not worth your time.
The company doesn't make it clear that their tax software products expire after a certain year. I dealt with a house fire back in 2019 and purchased their software annually ever since to handle my taxes. That fire displaced me from my home and made it impossible to file on time. I'm currently five years behind on my taxes and finally getting my life back together. When I tried to use the product again to catch up, I discovered that all five years of software I'd purchased at roughly a hundred dollars each had already expired. This is unfair to consumers. TurboTax should change how they handle product expiration dates.
Stay away from this product. The software incorrectly read my T4A form, which meant supplemental income didn't get properly reported. Now I'm facing a bigger tax bill plus I had to pay an accountant to fix the mess it created. TurboTax is disappointing and just doesn't perform well.
Had a really frustrating experience with two support staff members who became hostile during a phone call. Despite my efforts to remain respectful and composed throughout, they treated me poorly and dismissed my concerns in a way that felt belittling and disrespectful. I'd signed up for their premium self-employed service tier after being assured it would handle my business tax needs, but once I started, they claimed those services weren't included in my plan. When I asked my initial contact for a clear timeline, the conversation got worse. His supervisor got even more dismissive and started questioning decisions I'd made years prior about an incomplete return, as if that was relevant to my current situation. The whole thing left me feeling blamed even though I'd paid for their top-tier option and tried my best to be patient and understanding. All I wanted was straightforward information about when things would get done, but somehow that simple request turned into them being rude to me.
Very straightforward and reasonably priced. Just log in and work through your business details step by step, filling in your information from your Intuit account. The whole process is simple and works nicely.
There was a problem with how the software handled the childcare expense form. Many users reported this same glitch where the calculation was based entirely on the lower-earning spouse's income instead of doing it correctly. My son's tax return had the same error. We've since been through two different CRA audits in different years, and the outcome was that not only did we have to return the credits that were wrongly claimed, but we also got saddled with significant interest fees over the years.
Had an issue with how the form calculated childcare deductions. Like several other users, the software incorrectly based the expense calculation on only the lower-earning spouse's income. This same error ended up on my son's return as well. We went through two separate CRA audits covering different tax years because of this mistake. The result was not just having to repay the wrongly claimed credits but also getting hit with substantial interest charges that accumulated over multiple years.
Once my accountant's bills got up to over two thousand dollars annually, I decided to give it a shot myself and accept the risk of making an error rather than keep spending that money. I nervously bought the software for sixty dollars. The whole experience was fairly manageable, though slower since I'm unfamiliar with tax software and the terminology involved. The program itself is actually quite intuitive as the name implies, and switching between sections to revise entries is straightforward. What I enjoyed most was seeing your final tax bill and refund amount adjust instantly as you complete each step. It definitely took me several days to work through everything, but it felt like I was making headway. The system shows multiple alerts about credit eligibility, and I took the time to read through them all. Near the finish line when I went to pay and submit my return, I ran into problems with buttons not responding and one appearing greyed out for unclear reasons. That's when I started to panic, but I clicked the help feature and someone was on the line with me in about five minutes using screen sharing to look at what I was seeing. They ran a few checks, did a page refresh, and fixed it so I could complete my payment and filing. About fourteen days later my refund showed up. Couldn't be happier with my first experience doing this!
After my accountant's fees climbed above two grand, I decided to try handling my taxes myself and potentially make a small mistake rather than keep paying that much. I signed up nervously for the software at sixty bucks. It turned out to be pretty manageable, just took longer because I was new to it and had to wade through all the tax terminology. The software is actually really intuitive like the name suggests, and it lets you jump back and forth easily to fix anything. The best part was seeing the tax amount and refund update in real time as you go through each section. Yeah, it took several days, but every step felt productive. There are lots of prompts warning you about eligibility for different credits, and I made sure to read through all of them completely. Right at the end when I tried to submit and pay, nothing was working and some buttons appeared disabled for reasons I couldn't understand. I was starting to worry, so I hit the help option and an expert called back within five minutes, shared my screen, ran through some tests, refreshed the page, and got me sorted so I could finish payment and submit. Got my refund about two weeks later. Really pleased with how this all worked out for my first time!
