TurboTax Canada Reviews
What Shoppers Say About TurboTax Canada
TurboTax Canada is rated 2.1 out of 5 by 16 shoppers, with highly polarized opinions. Positive reviewers praise the software for its straightforward process, reasonable pricing, and solid online support features like screen sharing, which some found superior to competitor services. However, the majority of shoppers report serious issues, including software malfunctions that required switching to alternative tax programs, incorrect form reading that resulted in underpayment of taxes and additional accountant fees, unclear product expiration policies, and poor customer service experiences.
The most common complaint involves functional failures of the software itself, particularly with form processing and tax calculations. Several reviewers also experienced frustration with support interactions and felt misled about product policies. Those few who had positive experiences appreciated the ease of use and pricing, but these voices are significantly outnumbered by shoppers who encountered significant problems that cost them time, money, or both.

Sorted by: Most recentThe software has a glitch that prevents it from recognizing the dividend tax credit in your final tax calculation. If you just blindly trust what the program tells you and file, you won't realize anything is wrong. Make sure you verify everything yourself because you'll probably end up having to file manually or risk paying extra taxes and getting a reduced refund. I also noticed there were no year-over-year comparisons offered this time. Additionally, the summary page doesn't show provincial tax information even though it displays properly in the detailed view.
Found a serious bug in the program that causes it to miss the dividend tax credit calculation on the final return. Most people who just trust the software and submit won't catch this mistake. You really need to double-check everything yourself or plan to file it a different way. People could end up paying more than they should or getting smaller refunds because of this. Another problem I ran into was that year-to-year comparisons weren't available this time around. On top of that, the provincial tax details show up fine in the detailed section but don't populate correctly in the summary section.
Had to give it one star just to post this review. I started with the free version and declined all the upgrade offers. I downloaded my info straight from the CRA, but then the system wouldn't let me proceed with filing unless I paid fifty dollars. I had to call support just to get them to delete my file. Later, I went to buy their standard package with eight returns for forty bucks. When I installed it, I couldn't pull in last year's information even with that license, so I had to start completely from scratch on every single return. I'll wrap up this year's filing and then I'm done with this software for good.
Bought the standard version on disc. Got it downloaded fine, but then the program wouldn't actually run or launch. I've never had issues with the physical disc itself before. This is just poor quality on the software side. How come it won't start up? I know I'm not the only customer dealing with this. I tried calling support and went through their online system, but neither one was any help.
Received a letter saying I hadn't paid city taxes when I actually did. Now I'm spending time trying to prove I made that payment. This software completely failed to catch that issue, and it could cost people a lot of money in fines if they aren't paying attention. There's pretty much zero customer service available, and the chatbot they have is virtually worthless. If you somehow get someone on the phone, they'll only help if you upgrade to their more expensive plan. After this experience, I'm moving on from this product and not coming back.
Got a notice in the mail saying I owed city taxes that I'd actually already paid. Now I have to waste time gathering proof to show I took care of it. The software never flagged this issue, which could leave people facing hundreds of dollars in penalties and late fees if they don't catch it themselves. Customer support is basically unavailable, and their automated system is pretty useless. When you do manage to reach an actual person, they won't help you unless you pay for their premium tier. I'm done with this software and won't be renewing.
