It's not that unusual, but I hate having to search for that info. Other companies make this clear right up front on the product page, not buried in the fine print. Why would they show a discounted price and advertise free shipping if you can't actually use both? I asked them about it and got a short, dismissive response saying those benefits don't go together. Another thing that bugs me is getting emails saying I can get free shipping if I finish my cart, then having to actually call them to make it happen. Their whole website is frustrating and the way they do business feels sketchy. I've also been to their physical locations in a couple states and the staff at both places were unfriendly at best. I even saw one employee at a Maryland location yelling at a coworker for honoring an advertised discount that was still posted on the shelf, claiming the offer had expired.
I ordered a track saw that was listed as in stock. Four days went by with no shipping notification, so I reached out asking what was taking so long. They sent back a generic response telling me to call. When I did, the person on the phone was curt and said my order needed to be 'verified.' Verified? You already charged my card! He said it would ship on Friday, adding another four-day wait. The whole thing felt sketchy to me. I cancelled that order and got one from a competitor instead. I'm never going back. There are plenty of good woodworking retailers out there who don't treat customers this way.
Watch out when buying wood through their website. I got a box of plywood shipped to me and paid nearly $14 for shipping. The quality was terrible, and they wanted another $14 to send it back. That's basically $50 worth of scrap wood! The actual store wouldn't accept it as a return either. Plus the people in customer service were pretty rude about the whole thing. Won't be ordering from them again.
I purchased an item through an Amazon marketplace listing without realizing it was a third-party seller. When I asked about Prime coverage, they explained they don't participate in that program and that the shipping costs I saw during checkout would apply. They also mentioned the order was already processed and couldn't be canceled, so I'd need to request a return through Amazon once it arrived. I've ordered plenty of products from them before and spent quite a bit of money over the years, but losing hundreds of dollars over a five dollar purchase just because of poor communication seems like they're throwing away loyal customers. This is bad business.

First thing I'll say is that Woodcraft's prices are really high. But I keep coming back because of how good their customer service is. The folks at my local shop are friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. They've also got a solid selection of specialty woods that are tough to find elsewhere. I'd suggest getting smaller power tools from a big box store instead where you'll find the same items at better prices, but for specialty stuff and quality wood, these are the people you want to work with.
Woodworking is something I really enjoy doing. I used to visit their store in Norfolk, but after I moved away, there wasn't one nearby anymore. When I was visiting family in the area, I asked my wife to pick up an item I needed. I had even called ahead to ask them to set aside the specific size I wanted, but they handed her the wrong size instead. A few weeks later, I was driving through and stopped by a different location with the item, thinking it would be a quick swap for the right one. The manager refused to exchange it even though they had the correct size right there in the store. He blamed it on the store being a franchise. That makes no sense to me because plenty of franchise stores I've shopped at have had no problem taking returns. I'm not sure why he was being so difficult, but I've decided not to go back to that location. I made a pretty substantial purchase there last year that I now wish I hadn't made.
Their inventory management is terrible. On top of that, I had a really unpleasant interaction with someone from their call center. Items that were supposedly in stock took a whole month to arrive. The customer service rep was extremely rude and made some really inappropriate comments about my accent and suggested I didn't belong here.
This company will take your money for an order and ship it out regardless of whether they actually have everything in stock. When you order multiple pieces of the same wood species in different sizes for a project and they only ship part of it while still charging you the full amount, getting a refund becomes nearly impossible.
This place is ridiculous. I ordered a bandsaw that supposedly had next-day shipping and was in stock. Three hours after ordering, the website changed it to backorder. Then three hours later it showed in stock again. I called and they told me their fraud department would need to contact me. Why would they say that? They never answered any of my questions. When I asked if they had the item, they said backorder even though someone was already waiting almost two months for the same thing. If you don't have something, why does your website say it's available?
