Staples Return Policy

Staples aims to provide a hassle-free return experience for its customers. You can return most items in sellable condition with original packaging within 30 days of purchase. Staples brand products have an extended return window of one year.

In-store purchases must be returned to a retail store. Items bought online can be returned to a store or shipped back using the convenient free online returns process. You’ll need the original receipt or packing slip to complete the return.

For purchases made with a credit card, the refund will be credited back to the original card. Cash or debit card purchases in-store will be refunded in cash. If you made a purchase over $500 with cash, debit card, or check without the card, you will be refunded with a corporate check.

The value of any promotional item or gift card received with your original purchase will be deducted from your refund amount.

Once your return is received at the Staples warehouse, a refund is typically issued within 3–5 business days for major credit cards, 7–10 business days for a mailed check, and within 72 hours for Easy Rewards points.

No. Once a coupon is used, it is forfeited. The refund amount will be the price you paid for the item after the coupon was applied.

I have to be perfectly clear and honest. I do not give reviews if I don't have something good to say. I have to tell you people, that today, November 25,2025, I had the two best on the phone experiences. I was creating business cards for a t-shirt business. I am not the best technical individual, so I called the 888 number at the bottom of the page. Call number one, I spoke to Betty in customer service or support. Betty was so kind, professional, and knowledgeable. She genuinely wanted to help. Everybody knows how rare it is to speak with a human in the United States. I do not care where the rep is from as long as he or she can resolve my issues, and I can clearly understand their statements. Betty handled my issues. For some unexplained reason the work that Betty completed did not save in the cart. So I made the second call. This time I reached Christa. Forgive me Christa, if I am spelling your name incorrectly. People listen, to my amazement, Christa, like Betty was very knowledgeable, professional, and personable. We were actually having moments of down-home laughter in between updates of my business cards. She did a beautiful job and said that Betty did her part correctly, and there was some sort of glitch. So what are the odds, that you literally get two amazing customer reps from one company, in a day. I am so happy that I chose Staples to order my business cards. You should too!!!

Rigid return policy

I purchased an overpriced piece of luggage that I did not use. I saw the same item elsewhere for significantly less money. I had the receipt and tags were still in place. It was ONE day after the 30 day return policy. They would not return it despite even having proof that I was hospitalized two weeks of the 30 day deadline. Such rigidity should be avoided.

Delivery date estimate was clearly intentionally wrong. Within minutes of placing order, date started slipping (and cancel button disappeared.)

I am leaving Staples now very dissatisfied with the help.

I am leaving Staples. Located on 19 Commercial Way in Springhill Florida. I am so disappointed. All I want It was a simple sign with six words on it. The girl couldn’t help me, because I needed to create a file myself. She could not do anything more for me. I have to go home. Create a word file and I guess email it to them it to them. So totally disappointed in the service. No accommodations for anyone who may not be computer savvy. This was the Manager talking to me, and then I requested to speak to the manager. She said she was the manager, and that the guy next to her was the assistant manager or whatever. I have no idea what the world is coming to with technology, and the lack of help from workers in the stores. So, if you are older of age, and not computer savvy, you cannot come to Staple. I will gladly find another printing place and order the 6 word sign that I want for my students.

Bad delivery and customer service experience

I ordered a keyboard and a mouse and it did not get delivered to my address. I did chat with the customer service and they helped me with a reshipment which eventually got cancelled by staples and i was told to call them up, only to hear I can't have my refund or reshipment as staples thinks it's delivered. Horrible customer service and delivery experience, please refrain from expecting any kinds of service from the platformupdate: after complaining and due to the review the customer care did refund me for the order.

Staples deserves no stars

Staples deserves no stars. I went to my local Staples looking for labels. They didn't have them. The lady who tried to help me said she could order them. They would be in the store the next day. I called the next day, and the same lady told me they were not in, but they should be in by closing. I ended the call. 15 minutes later, I received an email informing me that the labels would be delivered in 11 days. I immediately called and canceled the order. I waited for my refund. It didn't come. I called to complain. I was told the labels would have to be delivered to the store and returned before I would be issued a refund, then it would take 3 to 5 more days for the money to show up. I complained to the customer service supervisor, then to the store manager, to no avail. I was told any order had to be cancelled within 30 minutes of the time the order was placed. So here I am, waiting for 14 days to get my money back.

This company is a train wreck

This company is a train wreck. After years of doing business with them, I'm done.I placed an order last Friday. The first time they tried to deliver to my gated community they could not get in and left.You are not dealing with UPS. USPS or FedEx. They use some courier service that is just unreliable. To top it off, I received an email that my order will be delayed until Thursday. Later on Wednesday, at 8:30 PM they said the order was delivered. They would not be able to deliver it unless I was notified by security at the gate, which I was not. When I called Staples they kept me on hold and then said it was shipped back to the warehouse. They reordered the product, and here we are again with no delivery.Fortunately this was for a $50 order. Can you even imagine sweating this out if it was a $1500 computer or $800 printer?They really should just go out of business or be taken over by Office Depot. They have no business being in business.

I don’t usually leave reviews

I don’t usually leave reviews, but I’m writing because this experience has been exhausting. I canceled an order on September 11, 2025, and the authorization hold on my PayPal account has still not been released. I’ve emailed multiple times, attached documentation, and even spoke with PayPal, they confirmed the merchant (Staples) must void the authorization for the funds to be returned.Staples’ replies have been slow and circular. I was told the hold would be released by September 22, yet the money is still unavailable as of September 24/25. Every time I try to escalate it, I get the same scripted response or a suggestion to call which I can’t do because of a disability. I feel ignored and frustrated; it’s been weeks I can’t use my own money, and nobody on the support side is taking ownership.Please: if you’re reading this and work at Staples void the authorization and escalate this to finance now.This is basic customer service and would take one clear action to fix.

Useless

We ordered goods worth over £150.00 in August including printer toners which are urgent. Promised next day. It's now 4th September. Their phone lines do not work. We've emailed with no reply. I'm not sure where we go next with this. Please do not use. Use viking as they are absolutely amazing.

Not the best product selection and avoid the ladies room!

Staples is understaffed and its employees are under trained, and the product selection is not the best. In this case it was the closest place I could get what I needed. The ladies room was about what you would expect from a roadside gas station with the toilet out back. Truly disgusting and soap dispenser broken etc.

Returning an item

I ordered an item, and as soon as it turned up I realised it was much smaller than I expected and requested a return. One week later of some emails and some photos of the item back to Staples, they have offered me a refund but only if I return the item at my own expense. The item in question was only £5.30 and the refund was gonna cost me personally £3.35 – they really do not consider that they are competing against them like of Amazon and Ebay which make returns much easier. Won’t be using this on line shop again.

Live chat only for customer service

I ordered a chair and I noticed it was going to the wrong address right as the order completed. So I tried to change the address right away but they said they couldn’t do it and I would have to cancel the order, refuse delivery (I again said wrong address) and reorder with correct address. So I did that. This was Thursday, I now had 4 charges (2 chairs and 2 protection plans). From this point on I spent about an hour a day trying to explain to a different chat agent every day about the duplicate charges, then my chair was delivered to the wrong address (I can tell by the picture proof of delivery that it was in my complex, but it certainly wasn’t my front door nor did I know where it was. I tried to call right away right, but you can only chat, which takes forever, but they don’t have any communication with any delivery people anyway, so once again I didn’t get my chair. On the chat for an hour again and next time they said if my chair wasn’t here by Wednesday, it would be free. On Thursday they delivered it to the wrong address again. But this time I went and scoured the whole complex and I found it, unfortunately, I had to pay someone to load it in my car and Eye Care at the stairs for me. But the worst part was, I spent an hour on the phone once again trying to get the charge straightened out because at that point I should’ve had zero charges. Wait for seven days, they said once the seven days came to the charges fell off, but not all of them and then they said oh no the replacement chair was free not the original chair. I guess she just didn’t understand because she was on the other side of the world and English wasn’t her first language and we were texting that there was no original chair. I will never ever order from them again. It was the worst week of my life.

Avoid...waste of time and money

machinery poorly maintained....print center is so poorly run and staffed as to render it undependable and all but useless...wonder how long this poorly conceived business will survive...no one buys business products/services there and store is filled with coffee, paper products, and other general merchandise junk. A business clearly directed and managed by incompetent suits....Amazon returns may be the only reason they are still operating at least in Vero Beach
