About Turo

Turo, with the slogan “Skip the rental car counter”, positions itself as a car rental service built for convenience. By eliminating the hassle of traditional rental procedures, Turo allows users to book directly online—simply choose the location, dates, and rental time.

Drive to any destination, for any occasion, in any type of car, including convertibles.

You can find Turo on Facebook, Instagram, and even TikTok.

Turo defines itself not as a traditional car rental service, but as the world’s largest car sharing platform.

Every car listed on Turo is owned by entrepreneurs who build their own car-sharing businesses, rather than by the company itself. Through Turo, these hosts can take control of their futures, using the platform to grow and scale their businesses to meet personal and financial goals.

At its core, Turo’s mission is to put 1.5 billion cars on the road to better use.

About 200+ cars to choose in a location.

How to Pick Up and Drop Off on Turo?

When you book a car on Turo, your host will give you pickup and drop-off instructions. You will check in and out through the Turo app, where you can also chat with your host if you need help.

To confirm your identity, upload your driver’s license in the app or show it directly to your host.

Turo provides several ways to pick up and return your car:

  • In person: Meet your host at the agreed location and receive the keys.

  • With a lockbox: Your host sends you a lockbox code, and you use it to unlock the box and collect the key.

  • With an app: Your host unlocks the car remotely using the manufacturer’s app, allowing you to access the vehicle without meeting face-to-face.

Returning the car follows the same process. Simply use the pickup method arranged with your host for drop-off.

FAQs

1. Who is responsible if a Turo car breaks down?

If a Turo car breaks down, roadside assistance will be dispatched through Turo. Responsibility for costs depends on the cause: the host covers issues from mechanical failure or poor maintenance, while the guest is liable if the problem results from misuse, negligence, or breaking Turo’s policies.

2. What is required to rent from Turo?

To rent a car on Turo, you need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license. You must also create a Turo account and complete the approval process before booking a vehicle.

3. What happens if they steal your car on Turo?

If a Turo car is stolen, the guest must return the original key, file a police report within 12 hours, and work with Turo and law enforcement, since they are financially responsible.

Makes car rentals super easy. No hidden fees or deposits. Every host I've worked with had great communication and easy pick up and drop off. The one time I had an issue with a host canceling my trip turo customer service was quick to help alleviate my issue. Will likely always rent from turo moving forward.

While the functional aspects of this…

While the functional aspects of this service were observed, there were non events that demanded considerable amounts of time and attention. They've been addressed and dismissed at some cost, though beyond the first promise of terms I paid extra to avoid. Turo has observed the terms of the agreement to an understanding citing no fault with respect to claims made by the property owner. That damages claimed were declared of a preexisting condition after evidence was reviewed. It was most disconcerting when initially notified due to issues of spotty coverage to communicate available due to the means of travel taken over Amtrak routes. Thanks are naturally in order for the swift resolution of claims. I hope should I ever take up a Turo experience again, the issues will not rise to require further assistance. Thank youColm Heneghan

Vegas motorsports rob you and make false claims

I needed a rental for 4 days and found a Mitsubishi mirage 4 with Vegas motorsports a host with turo and at 1st everything was fine and then I went to pick up the car as soon as I got in and began to drive the brakes started squealing so I sent him a mug and he said just use it like that and he will take care of it when I return it then I went to get on the freeway and it couldn't even go over 45 mph or go any higher than 3rd gear so I messaged him again and notified him or the issue plus the check engine light was on so I notified him of that as well and I notified turo customer support and let them know of all the issues the car had then came time to drop it off so I parked it drop the key in the drop box and suddenly realize I left bags in the truck of the car so I messaged the host and turo immediately while I was still there on the property and the host refused to open the trunk so I could get my bags and told me to return the next morning even though they were there already when I was that night and just didn't want to open it so I let customer service k ow and left the went right back at 730 the next morning hoping to get my stuff finally and was told that no one would be there until after 1230pm so I left again and not even 10 mins after I left did I get a text saying the trunk of the car is open I had 1 hr to get my things or they would be thrown away so I show up and the trunk is wide open and my stuff ransacked and the most important item was missing so I notified the host and turo and I ended up being threatened by the host and turo hit me with a smoking fine when I dont even smoke the host did smoke and literally planted the ashes in the car so that I could get fined and banned from the platform and turo supposedly did a full investigation on the matter and sided with the host so now not only did I get robbed for an item in the trunk but I also got charged with a smoking violation when I dont even smoke anything at all period

To the Turo Team,

To the Turo Team,I am submitting this review to share feedback on my recent experience with Turo’s claims and enforcement process. I have rated my experience one star due to significant issues that I believe could be addressed to improve fairness, transparency, and trust in your platform.I rented a vehicle and returned it in good condition, without any renter-caused damage. After the trip, the host submitted a claim alleging mechanical transmission damage. However, no pre-trip inspection records, diagnostic baseline, or evidence of renter causation were provided.Despite internal acknowledgment that the issue could involve a mechanical malfunction, Turo’s process proceeded to: • Enforce a claim without specifying any actual damage areas, • Demand payment for an unsupported mechanical condition, • Threaten billing, collections, and credit consequences, • Restrict my account and deny platform access, • Issue policy communications that felt retaliatory after I disputed the claim and requested independent review. At no point was I provided a final damage report, an independent evaluation, or a meaningful opportunity to respond to a clearly defined allegation. Instead, the process relied on automated enforcement, shifting deadlines, and demands for proof of an internal mechanical condition that cannot be visually documented. This experience highlights a serious breakdown in Turo’s claims governance, dispute handling, and consumer fairness safeguards. The current approach appears to incentivize unsupported claims while penalizing renters who raise legitimate disputes. As a result, I have experienced loss of platform access, wasted time, financial burden, and reputational harm. This matter is now the subject of a publicly filed civil action:Monique Maybell v. Odane J. Facey, et al. (including Turo Inc.)Circuit Court of the Twentieth Judicial CircuitCharlotte County, FloridaCase No.: 25-1709-CAConstructive Feedback for Improvement: 1. Transparent Evidence Requirements: Require hosts to provide clear pre-trip and post-trip evidence (including diagnostics for mechanical issues) before submitting claims. 2. Independent Evaluation: Implement a process for third-party or Turo-facilitated mechanical inspections when a claim involves internal vehicle components. 3. Fair Dispute Resolution: Ensure renters have a meaningful opportunity to respond before enforcement actions, including account restrictions or payment demands. 4. Clear Communication: Avoid threatening language or automated policy enforcement without verified evidence, as this damages trust and discourages future platform use. 5. Claims Governance Oversight: Create internal review mechanisms to verify claims before enforcement, reducing the risk of unjust penalties.I hope this feedback is helpful to your internal teams and that Turo takes meaningful steps to improve its claims handling processes. A fair and transparent approach will benefit both renters and hosts, while protecting the integrity of your platform.— Monique Maybell
