What Shoppers Say About BBC Worldwide Limited
BBC Worldwide Limited's BritBox streaming service is rated 1.1 out of 5 by 20 shoppers, with 90 percent of reviews being one-star ratings. Shoppers report severe technical problems including constant app crashes, freezing, and streaming errors that persist even with adequate internet connections. The most critical complaints center on customer service failures: support representatives allegedly refuse to offer solutions, ignore cancellation requests, continue charging accounts after confirmed cancellations, and deny refunds for prepaid subscriptions. Several reviewers express frustration that the service is outperformed by competitors like Netflix, Prime Video, and ITV Hub.
The few two-star reviews acknowledge that the service can be acceptable at times and mention occasional success with streaming, but these remain the exception rather than the rule. Reviewers consistently cite poor technical performance, unresponsive or dismissive support interactions, and billing disputes as reasons for cancellation. No positive aspects of the content library or user experience are mentioned in the recent reviews.

Sorted by: Most recentSigned up for this service without any issues on their end. Now the channel won't stream and when I contacted support they told me my 2017 TV is too outdated. Fine, I asked to cancel but they refused to give me back the money I already paid in advance. Their answer was just "Enjoy your viewing" when I can't actually view anything through May of next year. That's a nice little cash grab. And good luck actually talking to anyone, you can only text with them.
Had major problems with the app breaking and contacted support. The representative I spoke with never actually offered any real solutions and kept trying to end the chat even though I still couldn't access anything. A week later someone else followed up to see if my problem got sorted, but by then I'd already canceled. Apparently they have plenty of subscribers and don't need my business. They showed zero care for a customer, even though I'd been paying for years. The second my issue couldn't be fixed instantly with a basic restart or reinstall, they were done with me. So yeah, I'm done with them too.
I've subscribed to this service for quite a while now. Sometimes it's worth keeping, sometimes it's not, kind of like most streaming options out there. A few weeks back I got a confusing email and accidentally signed up for a full year subscription. Right away I tried reaching out to customer service to switch back to month by month billing. I must have explained the situation multiple times that I needed to cancel the yearly plan because it was a mistake. But every single time they tell me I can't go back to month to month until after the year is up, even though I've already been charged. I'm going to dispute this with my bank. Given how bad their customer service has been, I'm definitely canceling when I can. Losing customers with poor service like this doesn't seem very smart.
Started a trial membership with this service and canceled before the trial period ended, which they confirmed they received. However for the past four months they keep charging my bank account. Following weeks of back and forth communication, they finally said it's my bank's problem to deal with.
BBC streaming is honestly the worst option out there compared to its competition. Netflix, Prime, ITV Hub, Channel Four, Now TV, Rakuten, and YouTube all run smoothly with barely any issues. With BBC I'm constantly waiting for that spinning loading circle followed by an error message saying something went wrong. I don't have slow internet either, everything else works fine. Just BBC. It's terrible.
This service is complete garbage. It's constantly freezing and half the time doesn't work at all. Taxpayer money paying for this trash is infuriating. Canceled it just three days after getting it. Totally worthless.
The BBC iPlayer login system is a nightmare. Using BBC iPlayer now is a complete mess with how sign in works. IT DOESN'T WORK. THERE'S NO WAY TO ENTER A CODE. YOU PEOPLE WASTED MY TIME AND MY MONEY. I WANT A REFUND.
The software quality is really bad. Getting logged in is practically impossible. Can't even access the content. Why should we pay for this when we've already paid for a TV license?
The app asks me to log in and enter a verification code. Won't load the login page, and when I finally figure out how to get in, it just hangs there with the loading icon spinning forever. It's garbage. I really hate when tech services can't even handle the basic login process correctly. And good luck finding customer support. This is a disaster. I'm stopping payment. Not paying for this kind of failure.
The content selection is pretty good but the actual application is absolutely terrible. I've only had this for one day and already had to uninstall and reinstall it three times. Whenever I close the app I have to go through a bunch of steps just to sign back in, navigating to their website to reconnect my Fire TV. I've spent far more time trying to get the app to work than actually watching anything. Unless they completely rebuild this app, there are so many other streaming services that actually function properly and are simple to use. Don't waste your money. It's disappointing that in 2020 with all the technology available, this platform is such a complete mess.
