What Shoppers Say About Rad Power Bikes
Rad Power Bikes has a highly polarized customer base, rated 2.8 out of 5 by 20 shoppers. Satisfied customers praise the bikes for reliability and highlight exceptional customer service, with some reviewers reporting that the company has gone beyond warranty terms to help loyal customers. However, a majority of reviewers report significant quality and durability issues, including battery failures, controller malfunctions, brake problems, and water damage to electrical components. Common complaints center on premature failures within or shortly after warranty periods, limited one-year battery warranties that shoppers consider inadequate, difficulty obtaining service outside authorized areas, and what some describe as a decline in build quality compared to the company's earlier products.
The most contentious issues involve design flaws that expose electrical components to water damage and controller failures that occur early in the bike's life. Reviewers express frustration with warranty limitations and the challenge of getting repairs when they live in areas without Rad Power service networks. The stark divide in ratings suggests that while some customers experience excellent products and support, many others encounter defective units or face obstacles when attempting to resolve issues.

Sorted by: Most recentMy bike is two and a half years old and the battery completely died. The bike lives indoors year round and I ride it maybe once a week, so there's no reason it should have failed. I looked into it and found out Rad only gives a one year warranty on batteries. That seems wrong to me. My parents' electric bikes are six years old and have never had battery trouble, even though they sit in a hot garage. For a $3,000 bike where the battery is the main component, the warranty should last longer. Plus, when I've contacted Rad's support team before, they haven't been very helpful. I'd recommend buying from a company with stronger battery warranties and better customer support.
This was the worst purchase. I bought a commuter six years ago and it was broken from the start. The brakes would randomly engage on me during my commute, including stopping me in the middle of the Williamsburg bridge. I had to fix it multiple times. They sent three different controllers, and I paid a technician to install the last one, but it still didn't work right. Now I'm dealing with steering problems where it pulls left and right when I hit the brakes. Stay away from this brand.
I've owned a couple of radmission bikes with decent results, but when problems came up, working with the company was frustrating. My new radrunner started acting up immediately. The design puts all the electrical components in spots where water gets sprayed up and can collect around the motor and battery. After my first ride in wet weather, things started failing. The support team wasn't helpful, and honestly the product design and company service are both disappointing.
Our Rad bikes continue to serve us well and have been super reliable. When we ran into trouble and were just outside our warranty window, Nate stepped up and fixed it for us. The customer service we get from this company is consistently excellent. We're very grateful!
Really disappointed. I was an early Rad Power customer back in 2020 and had no complaints with my first two bikes. When I relocated in 2022 and bought a Rad City 5, we ran into problems fast. We've had two controller errors in under 300 miles. The quality has really gone downhill. The local bike shop told us they had at least six Rad Power bikes come in that month for the exact same issue. I'm so frustrated I don't even want to pay to fix it because I know it'll break again. I can't recommend this brand.
Our bike is under two years old and has completely stopped working despite hardly being ridden, with less than 100 miles on it. We think it's probably a controller issue. Nobody in the Colorado Springs area will service it, and the company won't help at all. We're stuck with what feels like an expensive paperweight that was a total waste of money.
We ordered a bike with some extras, but after just seven miles my wife decided it wasn't for her. Sending it back costs us thirty percent plus shipping charges. The unopened accessories also come with a thirty percent restocking fee. The return policy really stings.
This company tells you anything you want to hear. My wife ordered a RadExpand 5 plus with additional items like batteries, racks, large baskets, and bags. FedEx sent her a delivery notification but the items never showed up. When we contacted their customer service, they promised to get everything delivered to us right away. Guess what? Still nothing. They make big promises but don't follow through. We requested a complete refund of over $3,200 and got no response, so we filed a fraud dispute with our credit card company. The company is filled with people who avoid responsibility.
Now I understand why they have so many bad reviews. The bike arrived in good condition and was well packed, but that's where things ended. After assembling it and taking it out for a test run, I found the gears were misaligned. I tried adjusting them using a tutorial from Rad but it didn't help, so I took it to a local bike shop. They found the motor and gearing setup is faulty and the front fork seals are leaking. Now I'm waiting for their customer service to respond about what they'll do. Update: It took three months just to get approval to return the faulty bike and receive a partial refund. They haven't reimbursed the shipping cost I paid or the packaging materials I had to buy per their return instructions, even though they said they would once I sent them proof. I provided both and still nothing. This has been extremely frustrating. Every email takes more than a week to get a reply, and then they just ask more questions and delay things further. This is honestly the worst customer service experience I've ever had.
The bike is fourteen months old with barely over 300 miles on it. Everything worked fine until the motor stopped responding even though the electronics seemed okay. Support suggested a specific error code and we went through their troubleshooting steps, but nothing worked. They then told us the replacement controller is currently out of stock. This is a $2,000 bike and I'm really disappointed. I definitely won't buy from this company again.
