What Shoppers Say About American Greetings
American Greetings is rated 1.3 out of 5 by 18 shoppers, with the overwhelming majority reporting serious problems. Reviewers report unauthorized charges, refusal to issue refunds even after cancellation, failed delivery of digital cards and gift cards, and unresponsive customer service. Several shoppers characterize the company as a scam and warn others to avoid it entirely. The few positive aspects mentioned in reviews are overshadowed by complaints about charge quality, missing advertised features like music playback, and billing disputes.
Common grievances include charges appearing on accounts without customer authorization, membership refund denials despite customer requests, and a pattern of keeping money for undelivered or failed services. Shoppers also note that physical greeting cards of comparable quality are available at local retailers for significantly less money. The company's customer service is frequently cited as unhelpful or dismissive when addressing billing and delivery issues.

Sorted by: Most recentThis company is heading toward collapse soon! The website is terrible with no way to update your membership. I phoned them and the representative barely understood English. He told me to renew through the site. I said it multiple times and tried renewing online many times without success. The rep wouldn't make the effort to take down my credit card info over the phone. Instead he argued with me!
Very expensive mistake signing up here. I took advantage of a free trial that was advertised on their homepage. When a bunch of the cards I tried to send didn't make it to people, I stopped using the trial. They went ahead and charged me for an entire year and then rejected my request for a refund. Be careful about how they operate.
The website has completely stopped working for me. I've paid to be a member since 2017 and have sent hundreds of greetings and gift cards through them without problems. Two days back, the whole thing just fell apart. On Saturday I tried to send a birthday card to a relative but the site kept making me log back in despite already being logged in. Every attempt just gave me a blank screen until I gave up and went elsewhere. Just now the exact same issue happened when I tried sending an anniversary card to my sister. I can't send anything. Wondering if it was cookies, I went into my browser settings and allowed every cookie they want plus external ones, but it still shows the cookie banner at the bottom on every single page. I went into my account preferences and turned on all cookie settings, then erased the site data and reloaded, but the banner came back. I went back and checked my cookie settings and everything I'd set was back off.
This is a total scam. You start with a free membership but they want your credit card details. You give it to them and immediately get charged seven dollars. When you try to cancel, the system doesn't actually process it and they keep charging you that same seven dollars month after month until you basically call them out on it.
This company is a complete embarrassment. I decided to register for their advertised free trial so I could send my daughter a unique digital birthday card. Immediately they ask for my credit card information which I guess I understood might be necessary when the trial runs out. But here's the problem, they're attempting to bill me right from the start before I even get a chance to try the service! How much greed is too much? At minimum let me actually use the trial first before charging my account.
Stay away from signing up for a subscription or even trying a trial. They automatically renew your membership without you having to do anything, banking on the fact that you'll forget about it, and then they bill you an outrageous price.
Skip this service unless you're prepared to pay for it indefinitely. I wanted to test out the trial since I knew I wouldn't be sending cards for a couple months anyway, so I planned to restart my membership later. That plan is shot now! Getting rid of a trial membership is nearly impossible. You can't cancel through their website, they don't respond to email, and calling during business hours means forever waiting on hold. Since I work regular office hours, there's basically no chance I could ever get someone on the phone.
One star is all I can give when I'd prefer to give worse. Check my earlier review from December of 2017. This organization keeps pulling money from my bank account. When I contacted the payment processor, they told me to resolve it with the company directly, but they don't seem to listen in my experience. Do not go near American Greetings dot com. This looks like a fraudulent scheme. Update: I'm eating my words here and apologizing to American Greetings dot com. I followed up my angry comments with a firm email to them, not really expecting a response, but they actually helped me fix my problem with real skill and courtesy, plus they refunded what I lost. I want to apologize again to this company and highly recommend talking to their customer service folks because they really came through and handled everything professionally.
