What Shoppers Say About Barcelo Managua
Barcelo Managua receives mixed feedback, with a significant divide between guest experiences. A minority of reviewers highlight positive aspects: one guest praised the clean rooms, friendly staff, convenient underground parking, contemporary design, and excellent lakeside location near shopping. However, the majority of reviews reflect serious concerns. Multiple guests reported severe issues including pest infestations (mosquitoes in rooms), inadequate accommodations (one reviewer slept on the floor for four nights), and significant customer service failures such as delayed refunds lasting over a month and unresponsive phone support. Several reviewers expressed disappointment by comparing their experience unfavorably to other Barcelo properties and sister brands, suggesting inconsistent quality across the chain.
The pattern of complaints suggests systemic problems with room maintenance and customer support rather than isolated incidents. Guests considering this property should weigh the positive location and design elements against the substantial risk of encountering cleanliness and service issues. The low overall rating reflects the severity of experiences reported by most recent visitors.

Sorted by: Most recentHad a two-night stay in mid-October 2024. The hotel was nice with a clean room and fresh sheets, plus the staff was really friendly. They have underground parking which is convenient. The room itself has a contemporary feel with some cool design touches like glass walls in the bathroom area. The location is great too, right near a lake and shopping district. My only issue was that the refrigerator wasn't working properly. We let the front desk know about it, but unfortunately nothing was done to fix the problem.
This isn't what I expected from Barceló. We've had great experiences at their other properties, and last year we stayed at one of their sister brands which was pretty nice. We wanted something a bit nicer this time around, but honestly we didn't get it. The other property we visited before was actually better and cost less too. The dining options are just average with limited variety. The rooms feel worn out and could use some updates. The main pool is surprisingly small for a hotel this size. We paid extra for the all-inclusive plus package but didn't really see the added value. It was decent overall, but we won't be coming back.
Even one star is being too generous for this place. I booked a room at one of their properties in Mexico and it was absolutely terrible. I ended up sleeping on the floor for four nights straight. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else.
I'm really let down by how this company handled my booking. This was supposed to be my first trip outside the country and I was looking forward to it, but dealing with them has been frustrating from start to finish. I've been waiting more than a month for a refund that I was promised, and nobody seems to have answers. The phone support is nearly impossible to work with since you can't get someone who speaks English, and when you try to ask for help or escalate to a manager, they just keep saying you need to submit a form. I won't be booking with them again and I'm going to tell everyone I know about how poorly they treated me and handle their customer service.
We went down in June as a family to stay at their all-inclusive resort in Cuba. We had reserved two rooms and both were absolutely infested with mosquitoes. I swatted over 80 of them in just the first hour alone. My in-laws in the next room didn't do as well with pest control, so their kids got bitten repeatedly throughout the week. One of them actually came down with Dengue fever, which was pretty likely connected to being at the hotel. I tried asking the front desk multiple times to speak with a manager, but this person never made any effort to help during the entire week we were there. When I filed a complaint with the corporate office, their response was unhelpful at best. They basically offered me a discount for a future stay instead of actually addressing my concerns, and they wouldn't connect me with anyone in a higher position. Beyond the mosquito situation, the rest of the resort was pretty mediocre. The all-inclusive meals were boring and there were always crazy long lines whenever something good came out. The staff was hit or miss. Some team members were fantastic and really went above and beyond, especially the kitchen staff who made us special dishes when the regular lines got too long. Others seemed like they'd already checked out mentally. I think the real issue comes down to management and leadership not keeping things running properly at this property.
