What Shoppers Say About Benjamin Moore
Benjamin Moore receives sharply divided ratings, with 18 shoppers giving either very positive or very negative assessments. Recurring complaints center on product quality concerns, inconsistent coverage and color results, difficulty accessing the full product line through local retailers, slow or frustrating customer support when issues arise, and refund processes that shoppers describe as unnecessarily complicated. A smaller group of satisfied customers appreciates the brand's reputation and color options, though specific performance benefits are rarely detailed in positive reviews.
Major friction points include availability problems at franchise retailers who don't stock the complete range, particularly flat finish options for certain product lines, and the requirement to travel significant distances or order online when local stores won't special order. Shoppers also report concerns about potential counterfeit products in circulation and quality inconsistencies compared to their previous purchases of the same items.

Sorted by: Most recentI purchased Benjamin Moore Stay Clear and the quality was significantly worse than what I'd gotten before with the same product. After waiting two months for someone to investigate my complaint, I still haven't gotten a solution. The distributor is trying but the manufacturer seems to be dragging their feet and not providing good support, which unfortunately makes the distributor look bad too. Nobody's offered me a refund or replacement yet. I asked them to return the faulty product I paid for but haven't even gotten confirmation that'll happen. As someone who's bought Benjamin Moore products for years and defended them against people who say they're overpriced, I'm sad to say I'm starting to agree with the critics.
The stores in my area stopped carrying flat finish options for Regal Select paint. When I asked about getting a matte finish, the local retailers just refused to order it. The support team told me I could order online but would have to drive an hour away to pick it up. When you franchise a brand, the retailers should be able to offer the full product line. I'm frustrated that their solution was basically drive out of town for paint. Now I'm sharing their color samples with competitors who are happy to mix what I need.
Got 2 paint sample containers and tested them on my hallway walls. They barely covered anything. Really let down by the results.
Can't speak to how well their paint performs personally, but I wanted to give a heads up that there might be counterfeit products being sold in my area. Just be careful when buying and verify what you're getting. You might want to check other brands to compare your options.
The paint damaged my walls and getting a refund turned into a hassle. It wasn't even worth the effort to keep pushing them on it since it was a relatively small amount. They made the process harder than it should've been.
Really disappointed with this brand. I switched from Farrow and Ball thinking the wider color range would be better. After using it I'm going back to Farrow and Ball. The color I picked ended up looking dull and didn't live up to the reputation I'd heard about. I spent time researching colors for a north facing kitchen and picked Gentle Cream in the Aura line, only to discover it matched my yellowed kitchen exhaust fan perfectly, which was the opposite of what I wanted. The paint consistency was too thin and needed more than two coats even though the store said one coat would be enough. The finish isn't as nice as Farrow and Ball and doesn't cover imperfections well. It performed like cheap paint from years ago and I can't recommend it.
The staff at the location was rude, dismissive, and unhelpful. I went in to buy some basic porch paint but left because the service was so frustrating and bad. I won't be going back there.
Ordered 10 samples through their app for selecting exterior house colors. I didn't realize the app was adding wood stains to my cart instead of paint when I selected exterior. Realized the problem right after placing the order and emailed them immediately at 10:40pm. Got a response at 6:20am saying they can't cancel or modify anything. Called their support line and got the same answer, plus they won't accept returns. That's $70 wasted and I'm not going to trust them with my larger paint order. Companies should work with customers when honest mistakes happen.
I ordered 10 color samples through their mobile app to help pick exterior house paint. The app interface confused me and I accidentally selected stains instead of paint without realizing it. I caught my mistake immediately after checkout and sent an email at 10:40pm explaining what happened and that I needed the actual paint products. By 6:20am they replied saying the order couldn't be changed or cancelled. When I called customer service, they basically said tough luck and wouldn't allow returns either. I'm out $70 and definitely won't be buying from them for my main paint project. Everyone makes mistakes, but their customer service response was completely unhelpful.
Bought regal select flat finish to cover light blue walls. After putting on 2 coats of Chantilly Lace the blue still shows through on the edges. The older formula would've definitely covered this in two coats. For premium pricing this paint is not delivering. It feels like they put budget paint in a premium can and I feel ripped off.
