What Shoppers Say About Burlington
Burlington has a very low overall rating of 2.3 out of 5 based on 15 customer reviews. The majority of feedback is negative, with shoppers reporting serious concerns including discriminatory treatment by staff, unsafe conditions at checkout, poor management responses to complaints, and inadequate staffing during peak hours. A smaller number of reviewers mention positive experiences, but these are heavily outweighed by accounts of disrespectful customer service and unresolved incidents.
Recurring issues center on staff conduct and operational problems. Shoppers have described instances of discriminatory behavior, refusal to process legitimate purchases, physical incidents without manager intervention, and scheduling failures for job applicants. Additional complaints include long checkout lines and insufficient cashiers on duty. Several reviewers stated they would shop at competing discount retailers instead. A few positive reviews appear among the feedback, but the overwhelming majority of shoppers do not recommend this retailer based on their experiences.

Sorted by: Most recentJust walked out of the store and had a really bad experience. The staff refused to ring me up at checkout just because I'm Asian. It was incredibly disrespectful and hurtful. I'd recommend avoiding this location.
Had a really disturbing incident at the register. A staff member threw a large candle at me as I was leaving, and it hit my head and broke. I got a big bump and a terrible headache. Not a single manager or coworker came over to help or check on me. They completely ignored what happened and only supported their employee. The whole team at this location was unhelpful and indifferent.
I scheduled an interview with them and showed up only to be told they weren't conducting interviews that day. The manager looked totally confused when I pulled up the email confirmation. They came up with some weak excuse after I shared the email on social media. I wouldn't suggest this company to anyone.
Had a really frustrating situation with a manager at my local store regarding two clearance items. His employee had marked the items down, but when I got to the register the manager refused to let me purchase them. I'm a regular shopper and this has never happened before. He made me feel like I'd done something wrong, and it was super embarrassing. The manager needs better training or needs to support his team instead of accusing customers. I won't be going back.
I was rejected for a job despite having 17 years of professional experience. Plus the salary they're offering is way too low for what the position demands.
Way too many customers and not nearly enough people at the registers. The checkout lines snake through the store like you're at an amusement park. It's annoying. I'd rather shop at Marshall's or even Ross for a better experience.
The selection of brands is amazing and the prices are unbeatable, usually 50% off what you'd pay elsewhere. My only issue is the checkout lines move way too slowly. That's why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5.
I've always enjoyed shopping at Burlington, but I'm losing faith. I visited two locations in the city recently and both were severely understaffed. I stood in line for over an hour just to pay for a few items. It doesn't make sense that they can't afford to hire more workers. Please bring on more staff so shopping here doesn't feel like such a hassle. Thanks.
I'm frustrated with the hotel's approach to basic hospitality. I visit frequently and the team members are friendly, but yesterday I ordered peppermint tea and asked for a hot water refill. The tiny pot was already nearly $4, and when I requested more hot water the duty manager was snippy and resistant. It feels like they're focused on squeezing every dollar from customers by pushing drink sales rather than providing simple courtesies. That kind of pettiness really dampened an otherwise nice afternoon with my friend and left me feeling stressed.
We purchased a bathroom fixture through another retailer and had a terrible time dealing with them. When a component failed early on, they ghosted us via email for weeks. When they finally responded, they wanted almost $100 to fix it. We contacted Burlington straight up and got a response within 24 hours. They covered the cost of the part completely since we had such a bad experience elsewhere. Their direct customer service was fantastic. Definitely going to work with them going forward instead of dealing with middlemen.
