Cinemark Reviews
What Shoppers Say About Cinemark
Cinemark receives highly polarized reviews, with shoppers either strongly satisfied or significantly disappointed. Positive reviewers praise the theater's cleanliness, fast concession service, and exceptional staff, noting that employees move customers through snack lines efficiently and maintain spotless facilities. However, the majority of negative reviews center on deceptive marketing practices (such as false advertising about complimentary 3D glasses), problematic membership programs with hidden expiration dates on promised benefits, operational issues like unannounced showtime cancellations, and rigid refund policies that prioritize profit over customer service. Quality control problems with concessions (excessive butter on pretzel bites) and lack of flexibility for honest customer mistakes further erode trust.
Shopper satisfaction appears heavily dependent on individual location and experience type. While some customers report excellent visits with attentive staff and clean theaters, others feel misled by promotional offers and frustrated by policies they view as customer-unfriendly. The disconnect between what Cinemark advertises and what it delivers emerges as a recurring theme, particularly regarding membership benefits and opening night promotions.

Sorted by: Most recentWatch out for spending $9.99 or more monthly on their membership program. You'll be paying for perks you can't actually use. I signed up thinking it sounded worth it, but after 7 months of not using it, I tried to quit and found out those monthly movie tickets you get supposedly don't expire, except they do after 6 months. I guess that detail was hidden somewhere in the terms and conditions. Now to actually use the tickets I've been paying for over 7 months, I have to pay the $9.99 fee all over again just to get those credits back. And that's not even the worst part, because I also have to call their corporate office myself and have some employee manually reload my tickets onto my account. When I questioned the customer service rep about whether that seemed fair, she just repeated the policy over and over like I hadn't understood her the first time. Eventually I asked if anyone had ever filed a class action suit against them for this nonsense, and she just stopped responding.
Went to check out the new Avatar film on opening night at their Tinseltown location in Houston. Their online marketing promised complimentary custom 3D glasses with opening night ticket purchases. Instead, we got regular 3D glasses. It feels like Cinemark used false advertising to get people to show up opening night and drive up sales. Really disappointed.
On our last two visits, we ordered pretzel bites at concessions and both times there was so much melted butter pooled in the bottom that it spilled out all over our clothing. On top of that, they've been canceling movie showtimes with no notice, even special event showings they've advertised for months in advance. I checked around and other theaters in the area are still running these same movies, so I know it's not always outside their control.
The team and leadership here are exceptional, and they move people through the snack line incredibly fast before showings. Everything was spotless from the seating to the theater itself. My only gripe is when other customers won't be quiet during the film, but that's not something Cinemark can really control.
I made an error with my ticket order and picked the wrong night. The show hadn't even started and my ticket was never scanned, but Cinemark won't make an exception. Even though I already paid, they're making me buy new tickets if I want to go tonight. I'm really frustrated that profit seems to matter more to them than actual customer support. Whatever happened to treating your customers right?
Just got everything I ordered and I gotta say, I take back the complaints. This place is fantastic.
The site shows all available movies, but when you pick one, it doesn't show which theaters are showing it. You need to click the arrow at the bottom to see a specific theater's schedule, and even then, the movie you selected frequently doesn't appear on that list.
Visited the Ypsilanti theater and grabbed a bottle of water and small popcorn for $11.76. When I tried to pay with my credit card, the employee said it didn't go through, so I paid cash instead. When my credit card bill arrived, I saw the charge was actually processed. I ended up paying $23.52 total for water and a small popcorn.
The worker at the box office on Thursday at lunchtime at the Perkins Rowe site was incredibly rude. She didn't greet me when I walked up. When it came time to choose seats, she wouldn't make eye contact and just blurted out, "Where you wanna sit?" She printed my ticket and jammed it forcefully under the window. When I said thank you, she gave no response. That was really unprofessional.
The employee at the ticket window around midday on a Thursday at the Perkins Rowe location treated me with zero respect. She never said hello. When I was picking my seat, she looked away and just said, "Where you wanna sit?" After printing my ticket, she shoved it hard through the slot. I said thank you and she didn't say anything back. Really unprofessional behavior.
