What Shoppers Say About Cinemark
Cinemark receives highly polarized reviews, with shoppers either strongly satisfied or significantly disappointed. Positive reviewers praise the theater's cleanliness, fast concession service, and exceptional staff, noting that employees move customers through snack lines efficiently and maintain spotless facilities. However, the majority of negative reviews center on deceptive marketing practices (such as false advertising about complimentary 3D glasses), problematic membership programs with hidden expiration dates on promised benefits, operational issues like unannounced showtime cancellations, and rigid refund policies that prioritize profit over customer service. Quality control problems with concessions (excessive butter on pretzel bites) and lack of flexibility for honest customer mistakes further erode trust.
Shopper satisfaction appears heavily dependent on individual location and experience type. While some customers report excellent visits with attentive staff and clean theaters, others feel misled by promotional offers and frustrated by policies they view as customer-unfriendly. The disconnect between what Cinemark advertises and what it delivers emerges as a recurring theme, particularly regarding membership benefits and opening night promotions.

Sorted by: Most recentThis was my first time going there and hopefully my last. I made a mistake and bought tickets for the wrong day, so I asked if they'd accept them for the following day instead. They refused to work with me, even though we were willing to take the not-so-great seats up front. After the employee said they'd grab a manager and have me wait, nothing improved. Just a disappointing first visit.
Went to Cinemark with my sister, who is 18. We got our tickets for the Scream film and went to get some popcorn, but when we tried to go back into the theater, they wouldn't let us in even though we'd already paid for our tickets. The staff was hostile and rude, and the security person seemed to think it was funny to block us from entering. Totally unacceptable.
Had a terrible experience at Cinemark with my spouse. About 15 minutes into our film, the picture cut out and we could only hear the audio. We left immediately and asked for our money back, but the staff gave us a rain check using golf-themed language instead of actually refunding us. I told them we'd rather go back to AMC Theaters and probably wouldn't be returning to Cinemark. To use the rain check, we'd have to come back and risk having the same problem again. To make it worse, my wife stood by the entrance while I dealt with the refund counter, and they insisted on seeing proof of purchase for both of us or I'd only get one rain check. It was a frustrating experience at what should have been a great theater. I can't suggest this place to anyone I know.
We didn't even see a film. My husband just popped in to grab some popcorn because I was having an awful day. Theater popcorn is basically my obsession, and Cinemark's is the absolute best. He requested extra butter from the staff member and she went above and beyond. She drizzled it in like 4 or 5 different spots throughout the bag. I honestly think these are the first people who take our requests seriously. When we ask for extra butter, we genuinely mean it, like load it up enough to spike my cholesterol kind of butter. That ridiculously buttery popcorn saved my entire day. Sometimes it really is that simple.
Didn't even go to see a film, just had my husband grab popcorn for me since I was having a rough time. Movie theater popcorn is my weakness, and honestly, Cinemark makes the best. My husband asked the worker for lots of extra butter and she really delivered. She distributed it throughout multiple spots in the bag, probably 4 or 5 different places. These folks actually listen when you say extra butter. I'm talking drench it with enough butter to give me a sugar rush kind of extra. That buttery popcorn completely turned my day around. Seriously, that's all it takes sometimes.
We've been really satisfied with our local Cinemark location. While there aren't tons of screens, the quality is high. The seating is super comfortable, and the concession items are really good. Staff members are consistently friendly and helpful. When we're looking for a place to watch movies in our area, this is always where we go first.
Our local Cinemark theater has been a solid choice for us. The selection of screens is decent, and the picture and sound quality are nice. The chairs are really comfortable and their snacks taste great. The people working there are pretty friendly overall. It's definitely our go-to spot when we want to catch a movie nearby.
I uploaded a $200 gift card to their website following their instructions. After using it twice, I still had $140 left. When I tried to use it again, the balance was gone, drained by someone in California even though I'm on the East Coast. I called my local theater and they couldn't help. I've contacted corporate multiple times and all they say is sorry, we can't do anything. I looked online and found this happens constantly. Their website isn't secure and people keep getting hacked, but Cinemark knows about it, refuses to fix the issue, and won't refund anyone. This is a terrible company and I tell everyone to avoid them completely. They're basically stealing money from customers. I'm planning to file a report with the attorney general's office.
